not a great comparison imo.. they both sounded pretty crappy to me. but what do you expect from a phone speaker? and obviously, with stereo speakers, the HTC one will have a "fuller" sound. that's a given.

All I care about is the sound quality coming from the headphone jack and the loudness of the speaker, for hearing ringtones. seems like Z1's speaker is pretty damn loud. good enough for me!

EDIT:

Full gallery of LOW LIGHT photos from the Z1 in Superior AUTO MODE. I wonder why no one has tried hand held twilight mode? Reviewer says the pictures are very impressive with "balanced photos with low noise levels and sufficient detail." and "Personally, I think this is the best camera I’ve ever used on an Android smartphone". Full size photos are hosted on flickr, which is down for maintenance at the moment so I can't examine them

Sony Mobile has finally commented on the Z1 on Facebook, even if they don't have a launch date yet:

"We have heard all of your enthusiastic questions and comments about Xperia Z1, and we are just as excited as you are for this new device. At this time, we do not have any Canadian news about the device that we can share BUT we promise that by the end of September we will be able to answer more of your questions. Until then we appreciate your patience and thank you all for being big fans of Xperia Z1. Thanks!"

REALLY hoping I can get it in October and don't have to wait multiple months to get mine.

@Moogoo
Looks very promising, given that it was not supposed to perform as good as NOkias, in the first place.

@mckinley.. yah no doubt. i'm not expecting 1020 and definitely not 800 quality. but if it can come close to 1020 given its lower spec'd camera.. i'm MORE than happy with that. and these shots in superior auto mode are VERY promising. It just goes to show that with camera photo samples, the photographer is VERY important to show the camera's true ability. Even though he used superior auto mode here, having a photographers eye and experience does make a difference.

i really wish someone would use the HHT mode!!

.exe why are you not banned from this site

there is no .exe here. it is a zip file full of jpegs..

and you really need to lay off everyone. sure, it can get repetitive, but so what. just skip the post and go to the next. no need to insult anybody.

moogoo speaks the truth! The zip file contains 38 photos and they're quite nice! At 100% they have a fair bit less noise than what I'm seeing from various website reviews so far. There's still this general level of noise even in most brighter pictures, but it's very acceptable IMO. For an example of how it can look at 100% crop, here's a sample:

Here's what that same image looks like when viewed normally:

Now truth be told not every single one is quite that sharp at 100% crop, but they're all quite lovely when viewing the entire image rather than zooming in. I can't wait to see what improvements will come in a month when the updated camera software gets pushed through (as per zomg).

EDIT.

Another 100% crop... damn that's lovely!

The 5-inch 1080p display on the Xperia Z1 does not disappoint at first glance. Blacks are sufficiently deep and colours are vibrant; viewing angles are no longer compromised

It’s pretty clear that the Sony Xperia Z1 fixes all that was questionable about the Xperia Z and does not present any new issues of its own, making this a Sony flagship that has no glaring issues in the hardware and design department. This, in my opinion, is very promising for the Japanese handset maker considering the sales momentum and brand recognition that was gained with the Xperia Z.

I can understand the frustration. But, how hard is it for people to realise that there is a screen lottery - ranging from bad to better than the Z Ultra? At least be frustrated at the correct problem. By the way, I've already said the same things way before I.e. Why not send the best screens to reviewers?

As for the Samsung fans, I can understand them being a bit blue - their screens influence them in this way.

They always have a deep burning hatred which always stays too - their screens influence in this way too.

that's to be expected! obviously the sensor and the optics are great. it's just the software that needs to be tweaked to get the full potential out of the hardware. really looking forward to it!!

man.. makes me want to just order C6903 already so i can have it by the end of next week or early the week after.. but it sounds like there will be more news as to C6906 coming by the end of september. sigh. patience is a virtue.. patience is a virtue..

What's the chance that this processing will be back ported to Z/ZL/Z Ultra?
I'm not talking about complete camera interface will all the goods, just the processing itself and maybe manual controls.
