The Xperia Z though there's still significantly less detail, but part is also down to the "cheaper sensor and optics", and mainly the use of processing algorithms (mainly sharpening) is evident.
Xperia S poor camera, Xperia T poor camera and now Xperia Z poor camera!
Phonearena and Gsmarena have said that the camera xperia z as bad, what is missing now happen to you again admit that Sony failed?
Xperia Z, 13 megapixels usable only for posting images on social networks! |

Nice username. Gsmarena stated that the camera matches the daylight performance of the best 8mp shooters. This isn't bad news, because more megapixels mean more noise and less light. Unless ofcourse you use better technology like exmor RS. So even in good lighting conditions the exmor rs is doing it's job.
If you look at the comparison tool between de galaxy S3 and the xperia Z with low light video, you will notice the sail of the windmill is not as smeared out on the Z as on the S3. Sure the S3 has a brighter image, but the sail is smeared out. I think the settings are different of the devices. This video proves the low light performance of the xperia z is very good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el85dQDDSrY
I'm not saying the pictures couldn't be better, the driver and software can still be finetuned. If you compare the S3 with the Z on gsmarena with the color poster, you will notice that the picture taken with the S3 is a bit sharper. So yes, sony uses too much noise reduction or maby something else that reduces the sharpness. It can still improve.
The camera isn't bad at all, exmor rs is doing it's job as you can see in the youtube video i gave. At around 58 seconds you can see how much more detail you get. Ignore the purple hue, the owner thought hdr would work well in night scenes. When hdr is turned off the sky is much more black. |

What else do you use your phone camera for?
Something that is nice about Sony's camera on the Xperia Z is that the lighting is very good. Shots taken at night simply look a lot brighter on the Xperia Z than what the competition is capable of. Automatic enabling of HDR when there is a strong backlight on photos is nice too. |

To sum things up, Sony has managed to extract more performance from the four Krait cores than any manufacturer to use this chipset. The Adreno 320 GPU does equally well - it manages playable frame rates using a real-world 3D engine at FullHD resolution. It's hardly a surprise then, that the overall user experience with this one is smooth as butter. GSM |

iPhone 5, galaxy note II and especially lumia 920 shots taken at night simply look a lot brighter! |

That's about right. You must be dumb to call this camera bad.
When I study those 3 comparative images I see places where Z excells as well as places where it does not of course.
BUT my theory is that All of the tested devices are in full automatic mode. Which is totally not indicative. Absolutely not!
And the whole device is great.
Edit:
They say the device is set to the lowest ISO possible....
And - they admit this test doesn't say anything about many camera features (like white levels).

I wouldn't worry about the screen or the camera. Both are pretty good, one just has to check on YouTube or camera sample comparisons posted in this thread.
However, this bit of the review caught my eye :
" We ran our traditional loudspeaker test
on the Sony Xperia Z, and the results
were awful. Scoring a Below Average
result even with xLOUD turned on, the
Xperia Z is a definite disappointment in
terms of speakerphone loudness."
I have a XS nd am surely hoping it isn't less loud than that.
To all those who have the Z, can you please confirm or deny the above? Maybe compare it with your older Xperia phone?

Sony Mobile Japan has released a couple of new promotional videos for the Xperia Z. The creative 30-second videos don’t showcase the phone but draw on the emotional experience with taglines such as ‘Make Magic’ and ‘Be Moved’.

Hey Sony.Fail, don't be a prick.
Nowhere did GSMArena mention that the camera is worse than SIII/Iphone 5. They said it doesn't better them but matches them and in some cases has a very slight advantage due to the extra megapixels. So first learn to read before posting crap here |

Question, how does this Qi wireless charging differ from the dock for the Z?
The Qi wireless charger is an induction charger requiring the handset to either have or be modified with an active magnetic field induction circuit (in this case it is built in to the cover).
Qi chargers are becoming more common place and we may even start to see them in public places e.g. built-in to a dedicated place on a Starbucks coffee table.
The dock is a contact charger. It require the phones two contact pads on the side to touch the metal pins in the stand and it conducts current to the battery circuitry (instead of inducing current).
Pros/cons:
The Qi charger is undeniably cool and is the future but on Xperia Z you have to put up with this external cover which adds bulk (I like to keep my phones naked to admire their true beauty).
The dock is nice but proprietary, it won't be a common place standard and is more suitable for your desk or bed side table.
Also, I don't know about the charging speeds of Qi chargers I'd be keen to look that up before purchase.
