Hello all. First time poster, but have been scouring the internet for k790a info and found this website to be especially informative. Many thanks to those insiders who have the decency to share with the enthusiasts who cant seem to get beyond the PR mumbo jumbo
I have two basic quetsions. I'm a prospective buyer of a k790a and I've seen the link provided in the thread that shows actual photos of the camera. They look good for a phone but not super sharp. Any idea if there will be firmware updates for resolution enhancement? Especially for less panoramic pics, will there be an ability to scale down resolution to increase shortframe quality?
Secondly, although the word on the informed street is that the k790 will be available to US merchants aprox 2-3 weeks after the global release (mid july, no?), what is the best method (price conscious) of getting the phone? I've never bought an exclusive phone upon release so I'm not too keen on the process...Should one expect large markup? Is there a usual timeframe for which the prices will cool from astronomical to reasonable?
Thanks so much |

This may be of interest to someone.
“In relation to purchasing a new handset, at present, our records do not show that the Sony
Ericsson K800i is compatible with Telstra's network. Regrettably, I am unable to advise if
or when this handset may be released nor am I able to advise on any pricing until the
handset is released.
Before a handset is released onto Telstra's network, rigorous testing is performed to ensure
that all services available on the handset will be compatible with our network. Some
handsets may be delayed due to software upgrades being required for operation on our
network.” |

reeza,
This months 'All Phones' catalogue has the k610i, k800i and both n80 and n91 as coming soon. Look on their website, www.allphones.com.au and download the catalogue.
So they should be here in a few weeks. And the network likely to get it first is Optus, and then vodafone. If telstra were to get it they would be the last network to do so... |

My mobile shop has now a K800 plastic dummy but still not real ones, anyway the screen size compared to a k750's one appear much larger, the k800 should be there next week and for the good price of 450$,I hope he will buy my w900 for 350$ so I would only pay 100$ difference

@ads1107, cheers mate.... I've always got my phone through 'B' or 'Optus' for that reason, plus I always buy my phone outright.
But this time around with all that Optus customisation crap plus low on cash I though I might stick it on a Telstra 3G paln.
Telstra said I could move from my current GSM contract to a 3G one with no penalty.
But if T are going to take forever I might go the All Phone road and just get a new sim.
"All Phones" should have unbranded ones?
EDIT: I must be blind I can't find the catalogue to download ;(

http://www.allphones.com.au/Allphones_buyers_guide.asp, link for the catalogue. The world launch date is meant to be 26 or 28th of this month, so it should be very soon. All Phones may have branded phones, i dont know i haev never bought from them, but it depends on which network you chose as they have 'all' networks, some have little branding some have none and then you have vodafone, their in a league of their own with branding
But if you buy outright from them i think they should be unbranded, i always buy my phones outright too.
imo although i am with telstra, they are crap!!! their phone range is so limited compared to optus, go to tele choice and then telstra shop and see the diff. Telstra tend to get phones later.
Give all phones a call and ask for release date. I might go in and ask them in a couple days.... |

Not that keen on the 18 month contract deals, just to long to keep a phone for and certainly dont wanna be splashing out 50 quid a month for the twelve month. Currently have an O2 K750i paying 30 quid a month, contract is up now, what do think my chances are of upgrading to k800 with the same monthly spend??? |
