It must have been a prototype that was sent out to a reviewer.
Why do Sony send out prototypes to Review sites then? Because surely a big company like Sony know that negative reviews will make people go for a different handset which will affect sales? They should send retail versions. |

prototypes here, prototypes there ...
what a tired excuse!
we're still waiting for a review that features a real good display
hope we can see some change with the release of the retail units next week.

Think I might post a review of the Xperia Z1 myself as I have been given one to use this week. Would anybody like to read a review in a day or two.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

how bout instead of waiting for reviews.. you just go and try it out at a store when you can? trust your own eyes and impressions. you've already heard 1st hand reviews from your fellow esato users who have gone and tried it themselves.
it's just funny how many people rely on reviews instead of their own experiences.

that's not really the point of all the complaining. i already belong to the sony captive market. i would hold off buying instead of going to another company. this is just an expression of discontent over how sony handles things. they never go all out. they always hold something back. they never come up with a perfect product. if it's true that they're letting people review imperfect prototypes, they're just showing how inferior their PR machine is. why do they love giving out devices that are not ready yet (if they're not really the final product)? it's really sad how the brand you like is getting hurt by all these reviews. |

I can live with poor viewing angles but 600:1 contrast sounds bad. They were supposedly going to use 2000:1 VA screen
Did Xperia Z screen improve with later batches or still screen lottery? |

What about the screen and viewing angles?
I think we have clearly established here that nobody is interested in viewing angles so stop asking the question - if it is important to you alonet then go to a shop and see for yourself - give it a rest please and thank you |

Why send the shitty displays to the reviewers. That is PR suicide.
It is a display lottery. Some are excellent and some are average. XperiaJunkie has a phone with the very good display and Ambroos has one with the average display. The average display is still better than the Z/ZL display.
The display on my ZL has poor viewing angles but almost every time I show a picture to someone they compliment on the display quality. 99% of people do not care about viewing angles.
I get that, but why isn't Sony ensuring that the press and reviewers get the absolute best display. Its the first thing you see, and so it can heavily colour how you react to the rest of the phone. Set off on the wrong foot (i.e with a bad screen) and the reviewer will inherently not like it much, even if the rest is amazing.
XYZ - IFA is over why do you keep posting this crap over and over - give it a rest, we will all know soon enough were we're at - seriously you're like a broken record - go buy an HTC and give us all a rest |

interesting!
though, if you're in full manual and can control WB, HDR, ISO, EV and flash, do you really need to be able to select a scene? It kind of defeats the purpose of full manual doesn't it?

relax Geoffxx.. people are just upset/angry cause they expect more from Sony. I'd even go as far to say that they are simply frustrated.
Though I agree. the same things over and over again is what is so funny to me.

No.
I'm a huge fan of Sony, and as such it really bothers me that they keep making stupid moves like allegedly handing out "Prototype" or "Incomplete" handsets to the press and reviewers. 600:1 contrast ratio....pathetic. That panel shouldn't have been fitted to a Z1 at all, let alone be sent to a person who conducts online reviews.
Just cause these problems don't matter to you, doesn't mean I should stop voicing my complaints. This is concerning to me, and I want Sony to make an effort to change. In the end it will not only benefit the consumers, but Sony and their reputation too.
