Until now Sony copied 3 things from Apple and they should be sued for it .
 unremovable battery
 No memory card
 New headphones plug

Did I miss something about the headphones plug? Is it something different to the standard 4 contact mic+headphone plug?

Same standard as Apple! CTIA instead of OMTP. It gives the buyer more varieties of headsets to use.

Thats the problem ... Apple headsets sound terrible and i will never use it on my phone!
But will I be able to listen to my Bose headphones? |

It's a shame that xperia S is stuck with snapdragon S3.Sony should have released xperia u and xperia p in Q1 and xperia s/xperia ion with snapdragon s4 in q2.I wonder, who is the one that takes such decisions in sony...Should have been fired ages ago!!!!!! |

If Sony have agreement with Ericsson for more than 1 year for processing power, we may see brand new ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8540 in next year mid-range devices.

NovaThor 8540 is dual Cortex A9 @ 1.85GHz, biult on 28nm with fully depleted silicon on insulator (FD-SOI) transistors wich have to lower power compsumption by 35%. It use PowerVR SGX-544 graphics @ 500MHz. Also, there’s dual-channel LDPPR2 memory and it is trully global supporting up to 8 LTE/WCDMA/GSM bands.

It`s just like 9540 but suposedly cheaper and will be sampled to vendors in Q3 this year, the same timing as A9600...

We need Cortex A15 not Cortex A9. Qualcomm has many A15 1 ghz lower end CPUs
And hope there will be a phone with ST-Ericsson A9600 chipset next year

We're not talking Apple headsets, we're talking the connector!

And I am talking about using my headphones on it! ...
Or do I have to buy new headphones and throw away the good old ones? |

You can use any 3.5mm headphone pair with the new jack without a problem.

You actually can't. E.g. the 2011 Xperia seires headphones won't work. The Xperia S will display 'Acessory not supported' and simply deny to play sound to it.

Well, almost all headphone manufacturers (even SONY) use the CTIA standard nowdays (iPhone compatibility= sales) and since OMTP is no more I think this is the right way to go. It lets you chose between a huge amount of headphones with mic instead of 2 products that didn't really work that well to begin with. |

There's a new headset for 2012 devices called Smart Headset that looks exactly the same as LiveSound, but I'm guessing the only difference is that it has the new jack?

OK, I take my words back. F U SONY! It seems that I have been right once again saying that the new iPhone headphones plug in Xperia S was a bad decision. Because using what the rest of the world uses is way too mainstream.
