i was thinking to wait for it too but this way there will always come new phones and you will wait for good... i still have my P1i with full touch screen and not half...and i went few steps back to the old SE interface ... i know the W995 after 5 min of use, just like my old friend the W800i and it is fast much faster then before .. instaled opera mini on it and it works great..almost so good as the touchscreen of the P1i i am not so sure that the aino will be a big succes ... but i know the w995 already is

Ummmm...I feel Aino is good for video watching much better than w995 but it only got single loud speaker and no 3.5 jack that will not suit with my music solution. And most of Aino made from matte plastic instead w995 made of aluminum.
IMO, Aino price will drop IF decided to remove the bundle like desk stand and bluetooth I guess for only Aino just around 350 euros. hundred drop for me.
Actually I have some hesitate when first saw Aino but when I touch with this for some minutes, NO Hesistation at all I will go for w995.

Could someone that has the phone confirm the presence of bestpic?
What color of key backlighting does the black version have?(the phone simulator doesn't show this and I couldn't quite see it in the video)
many thanks |

Bought the W995 while traveling in Hong Kong and now back in the USA!
Phone is pretty good though the reception quality was much better back in HK than US!
Mobile tech is much better in HK than in US!!
Don't see myself using video much, then again, who knows?
Supposedly, it's Media Player 4.0 NOT 3.0! Can't tell the difference, though!
Music quality is pretty good though the included earphones suck!! Never did like SE earphones!
Use my Shure sound insulation earphones
Too bad the media player's controls are still too damn tiny. Very difficult to use FFW/REV buttons because if you hold it long enough, the player will skip to the next song/file!
Album art support is TERRIBLE!! Almost non-existent since MediaGo sucks!!
Finally, a 3.5mm port!
When will SE finally learn to put these things in ALL their phones??
SE IS a VERY arrogant phone company who refuses to put the 3.5mm port into their (Walkman) phones!!
Phone quality is actually good except SE logo name is sticker based so it's coming off! Only reads "ny Eri" now!
How CHEAP of SE of NOT just stamping their logo into the plastic casing considering the price of the phone!
Hopefully the sliding mechanism won't break down! Hope it's reliable since this is my 1st slider phone!!
Too bad the back of the phone is NOT rubberized because you'll have to really squeeze the phone to open.
Remember to buy a case to prevent the logo from rubbing off or from scratching the rest of the phone!
Very difficult finding cases (rubber or plastic) but finally found some back in HK before leaving!
It shouldn't cost you more than $7 USD! Otherwise, it's a rip-off!
UK version includes a small speaker! WTH??!!
Which world regions get the noise cancellation earphones? It's a sales gimmick to boost sales considering the phone's price!
W995a version is for AMERICA ONLY, only difference is that the bandwidth circuit has been modified:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
- UMTS/HSPA 850/1800/1900 (Modification for 3G)
W995 version is International version:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
- UMTS/HSPA 900/2100
Too bad the USA's 3G technology is different from the rest of the world making 3G usage difficult to use, if at all, in the USA!
MediaGo software is better than the previous Media Manager but it still SUCKS!!
- Drag n Drop is NOT supported to drop songs from PC into software.
- Can't create folders.
- Must import playlists over again if your Music folder/iTunes folder changes! WHAT A PAIN!!!! No Synching!
(iTunes Agent supposedly works but will test later)
- Video conversion should be AVOIDED AT ALL COST! USE a 3rd party video conversion software to convert videos to mp3 format then drag n drop into phone's media card instead of using MediaGo!
- Otherwise, video conversion will LITERALLY take more than 1 hour for 1 DVD video! That does NOT include Transfer time from PC to phone's media card which could take up to 30 minutes!!
- SONY MAKES THE WORST MEDIA SOFTWARE FOR THEIR PRODUCTS!!! EVERY ONE OF THE ENGINEERS SHOULD BE PUT TO THE FIRING LINE!!!
- Drag n Drop files into phone's media card is the EASIEST and relatively quickest method of file transfer.
- Problem is ... you must create Playlists on the phone which is PAINFULLY SLOW AND TEDIOUS ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE LOTS OF FILES!!!!
- BASICALLY, AVOID MEDIAGO but use it IF you REALLY NEED TO!!!
Sony's PlayNow Arena is only available in certain countries (funny but HK is NOT one of them as well as the USA)!!
Their selection of music stinks anyway! It's pathetic!!
Camera.... well....
8Gb pix camera supposedly should take good pictures but....
Ask any photographer and they'll tell you that specs of 8Gb is NOT how to judge a camera but other factors as well.
Camera is decent but could've been better. Many online reviews back up my experience!
Best for Day shots and short range shots!
NOT good for night shots or LONG range shots! Too blurry! Too dark!
Xenon flash would've been better but LED flash is OK!
Just do NOT use this camera for "precious" shots!
Use a regular camera!!
Update media software now is Much better than previous version!
Relatively easy to use but could be better and more automatic without user involvement!!
Still do NOT know why Sony INSISTS of users press the "C" button to update! Their methods are so Arcane!
Look at iTunes: Connect device, press "look for update", if update is available, Press Y or N to update! SIMPLE!
Wifi works but it's somewhat slow at times depending on your signal.
Don't use Wifi with phone so I don't really care but at least it's good to know it's available.
Particularly useful when traveling and there's FREE Wifi hotspots available (to check emails)!
All said and done....
It's a nice phone! Walkman phones should ALWAYS have a 3.5mm headphone port!
VERY pricey = $3,995 HKD ~ $515 USD!
It's still a Walkman phone so do NOT consider using the camera much except for day shots!
Rumored that the W995 may be the LAST Walkman series model since SE plans to integrate Walkman/Cybershot phones into a combined model. If they can only get the Cybershot version correct!!
SE phone softwares need MASSIVE work!!

I haven't even installed MediaGo yet but I think Drag and drop is going to be the best method. It's very easy and the Album Art works too.
For anyone looking for the best MP3 Player phone this is the best out there if you don't want to carry a huge brick with you. The phone is sleek, very well built and has the most convenient features for a phone like smart dialing, excellent call logs, terrific MMS interface and plenty of free Java apps to check email, upload images, nice games, etc.
But, if you are looking for something new and great compared to SE phones from last year or two, you will feel let down. I used W910 for almost 2 years now and I really don't find anything new as I don't care about GPS or a great camera. But the phone feels great and I hope I don't fill the back of the phone with too many scratches. I preferred the rubbery back of W910i. |

I don't have to justify my reason on buying the phone to anyone!
Also, would rather not argue with argue with any SE fanboys but voice my review and opinion on my experience with the W995!
Isn't this the reason for the forum?!
Anyway..... my reasons for the phone....
Bought phone to replace W890 which is now my backup phone.
W995 Phone is actually nice and it works well. Really like the look of the phone which is probably another reason I bought the phone.
Still can't stand the Media software.
Been using SE phones since P1i then W890 now W995!!
Decent phones with relatively good reception is mainly what I'm after!
Media player is a bonus (but still will NEVER replace my iPod since it's EASIER to use esp iTunes and it has a 3.5mm port)!
Despite the newer phone models and slow software updates, SE's Media software still SUCKS!!
At least SE finally got the Update Service Software correct! It's Much easier now (though it's STILL annoying having to push the "C" button instead of having software AUTOMATICALLY run the entire update procedure)!
Now.....
How do other people use the Drag n Drop "feature"?
I do this:
1. MediaGo is opened on Left side of screen
2. Windows Explorer and media folder is opened on right side of screen
3. Created new playlist in MediaGo
- Highlight files on right side then DRAG it left
4. Woops! A circle with cross appears which means that Drag n Drop is NOT possible!
5. Having trouble creating folders but manage to create one in MediaGo
- Highlight files on right side then DRAG it left
- Woops! A circle with cross appears which means that Drag n Drop is NOT possible!
6. Highlight a playlist in MediaGo. Then DRAG to phone's media card.
- Woops! It won't let me!
- Right click or use option to "transfer playlist" to Media card!
- OK, it works but VERY, VERY SLOW!
I've read OTHER online reviewers state the same thing that it's MUCH easier just to use Windows Explorer to Drag n Drop files into phone's media card than use Sony's Media Software which I wholly agree!
Now, someone please tell me how YOU use MediaGo! EVERYBODY has their experiences!
BTW....
Video conversion is really a hassle.
It literally took OVER 1 hour to convert a Movie to mp4 format.
Then it took over 30 minutes transferring to phone's media card.
I redid the conversion with a 3d party video conversion software then transferred it (Drag n Drop) via Windows Explorer into phone's media card, video folder. That took me about 45 minutes!!

Kit,
How do you use the Album art feature without first encoding the files with the album art?
I actually read the SE Users Guide and MediaGo Guide but it never explained how to use it!
Please explain how to import the album art if I used Drag n Drop the music files (Beatles folder, 12 files) from Windows Explorers into the phone's media card under \\Music.
I would then create a playlist within the phone!
Now how do you import the album art??
Thank you!
