ever since the P800 there has been support for .rm/rl Real Media format for streaming. This is good but its the Symbian OS achilles heel (not limited to UIQ3 but also to S60 devices). When someone mentions "real" (not like the Real Media Player company) media files for video I think of IE going to a web site and streaming a Windows Media file presentation. That STILL isnt possible an any device eXCEPT for the PPC/Smartphone platforms.
Now if more ppl use QuickTime Pro to encode for 3GP solutions for streaming or media that supports that standard we'd all be in good shape for having better streaming supply for our demands.

@ Prom1 - Well, im a completely unbiased person. I may buy SE phones and like to talk about them online, but i could easily stop buying SE phones if they simply did not meet my expectations. Im far from a fanboy and always consider none-SE alternatives, and right now im getting a little cheesed off with SE for the silly decisions they keep making regarding their new phones, and such points as last years situation regarding K750i video quality bitrates and firmware.
Its a good point that the N80 will lack apps, but then, so will the P990i. Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the P990i the first UIQ phone to use the new Symbian platform ? therefore theres virtually no apps around atm that will work with it. So, both phones are in the same boat.
Im thinking about getting the N80 because it'll more than likely be cheaper on a contract price than the P990i, meaning i'll also be able to buy a PAYG K800i or Walkman branded alternative when the phones are released. Its a sad fact that i still wont be able to have a great smartphone, with a great camera built in, i'll still have to carry 2 devices - but then ive been doing that for years.

etaab, talking about apps, P990 at least should bring full versions of Quick Office and PDF, and the card scanner, thats very good apps for start
n80 is great phone, but 650 euros for a non-touchscreen smartphone is an abuse (thatīs the price here in portugal)

etaab, apart from what Arez has mentioned that are full version apps out of the box, SE in March 06 already showcased 11 "Try and Buy" apps to be placed in the DUO card at shipping time. You can't possibly be missing this info rite?

@ mario2002 - No in the UK its not, ive checked and the phone isnt available anywhere yet other than online, and id want it on contract.
@ Arez & adnhk1 - Office apps always come in handy, but ive never been a big fan of PDF even on my pc, and the card scanner whilst handy wont really be something id use. As for the try and buy apps, none of them are really anything id buy, possibly with the exception of Worldmate (i have an advanced full version on my PPC) and apps made by Epocware, none of them are of much use to me atm.
A Skype app would be something id welcome.

@ etaab, I posted the link above based on your initial comment... "Its a good point that the N80 will lack apps, but then, so will the P990i. Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the P990i the first UIQ phone to use the new Symbian platform ? therefore theres virtually no apps around atm that will work with it. So, both phones are in the same boat...".
So as to keep everyone informed of the CORRECT INFO that there are apps available at shipping time, and many more will sure to be made available very soon (e.g., Remote P990i has already began the porting work and pehaps most if not all of Magic series of softwares and not forgetting apps from Symbianware too).
My comment is not to address whether these apps are for your needs
Oh, Skype? You may like to know about these info (you may need to login to see this thread). In short, Skype is in the works and 2 more companies announced their VoIP products that will be released soon that supports P990i, namely Vyke and Woize:

I dont doubt there will be full apps available to buy at the time the phone is released, but my comment pointed out few of them are the type i'd buy. Im talking about my own personal preference.

Does anyone have any idea about the price for this. Ive heard people on other forums saying that it will be the price of what the p910 is now or maybe even cheaper. ? |

Online retailers claim May sometime on O2. http://www.play.com claim 1 May, but this date has not been confirmed. O2 sales told me end of May or early June. The UK SE eshop also claims June for availability. The rumour is the M600 will be available before the P990
Edit: http://www.play.com quote UKP500 and at http://www.mobileshop.co.uk on a 12 month contract the P990 is between UKP300 and UKP80

It looks like the rumour right now is a delay between July to September.
Are there any concrete indication from Sony Ericsson that the P990i will be out in June 2006. |

this has most likely been asked before, but how is the p990 able to view videos? playing videos that is, not ones its created... is the playback smoother and more quality than say a k750? obviously the bigger screens an advantage, but will you be able to convert videos to put on it at a higher spec?
also is the camera better than say a k750? i know that they are both 2mp, but are there good improvements in say quality etc? despite the fact that it has a 2mp camera, could it level with a k800/k790 or no?
