Well, I know. But in GB the cars are smaller and need only 5-7 L per 100km. Here the cars are much bigger and need 8-12L per 100km with many more even use more gas, so you might get as far for the same price as one here.

It is true that our gas is cheaper, but relative to how much it used to be it is expensive. Still, I would like to have my old V8 camaro instead of my Volvo |

You still have the option to buy smaller cars, cut down on your pollution, and you don't have any of the damned "speed humps", terrible roads, roundabouts, or fixed and mobile "speed enforcement" cameras with £60 and 3points on your licence every few miles in some parts of the country!! You have driving so easy over there!!! |

That is true. Except there is no Autobahn .
The roads are wide and so are the parking spaces. Plus the cars are more comfortable, because the interior is large. When I was in Germany and riding in small cars I felt crowded and uncomfortable.

by the way, we absolutely do have the stupid roundabouts, speed bumps and cameras mounted at intersections to give out tickets.
One time I got pulled over by a cop for going over speed bumps too quickly. In reality I went over them at about 5mph, which is almost too slow. He got in a fight with his partner about it and the partner told me to leave. I hate cops and I hate speed bumps. |

When I was in Florida I saw ONE roundabout, that confused me going the wrong way round it, and didnt see one fixed camera! Saw a few cops with speed guns, at least you could see them! They're everywhere here! |

I like roundabouts. If you are not sure where to go you just go around for a while and then make your exit.

There are at least 5 or 6 roundabouts right around where I live and it drives me nuts because nobody can ever figure out who has the right-of-way or when to enter them. They cause so much traffic. As for the cameras, they are all over the Bay Area in California and even more prevelant in LA.
@miss_uk, good to see you around again. Sorry to hear that work is keeping you busy. Better then not working at all though. |

Roundabouts are cheaper and more effective than traffic lights.
Talking about fuel and cars.....here's a trivia for you that is quite scary.....from 1975-1985 the fuel-efficiency standards in US cars increased 70%. Then the oil companies realized what was happening and got in bed with the car manufacturers and politicians......since then the fuel-efficiency standards have not changed. (is it a coincidence that Bush Sr became VP in 1984?)
There needs to be more pressure and/or incentives to produce more fuel-efficient cars. The technology is there but the Big Three is not doing much about it. I'm glad Honda, Toyota, and VW are.

When I was driving in Florida I saw one!! Driving round LA, didnt see one and only a few cameras! You think you have a problem with speed cameras over there you should try coming to Npton, loads in a smallish town, cant drive more than 5 minutes without seeing one! And they swap them round so one day they are aimed one way, then the next the other way! And then you have the 5 mobile ones just doing speeding, and add those to the traffic police who have a habit of using their speed guns too and you have a situation where you spend all your time looking at yr speedo. Very safe!! |

think it may have been clearwater beach. was right on the coast, just come off the beach actually and was at the edge of a housing estate. LA was great for cameras, not many at all! If you think you have it bad over there, come to northamptonshire or Oxfordshire, you will be horrified! Oxfordshire has fixed ones every few miles and northamptonshire had fixed ones and mobile ones that hide on bridges, all in the name of "safety"!! Who is being saved by catching people doing 100mph on an empty motorway at 8am on a sunday morning? |
