Just to confirm no one has crossed wires here you can shoot at 20MP in manual mode but your options for manual controls are very limited when compared to 8MP as in 8 MP mode you get to chose the scene, set the white balance, HDR on/off, ISO upto 3200, face and smile detection.

in 20MP mode you get white balance, HDR, on/off iso upto 800, face and smile detection but no scene selection.

Hope this clears a few thing up for you guys.

Heh but in 20mpx you can also choose the Zoom type right? Like infinite, automatic 1 point, etc?

the proper term is focus point/metering.

Yes good news metering is there in both 8 and 20MP manual mode.

Manual controls only in 8 MP mode?

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

When I played with the z1 a few days back in the showroom I didn't notice it being manual only when I did both 20 and 8mp samples. In fact I think I manually had to set it to iso 50 iirc.

@XperiaJunkie

Thanks for the clarification, it made a lot more sense when you explained it further, at first I thought we'll end up with limited controls for 20mp, but it seems all the necessary function is there. Scenes are pretty much just presets for the camera hence they're for auto mode.

Preorder.

Yup, I believe it showed up on there 2-3 days ago. Ceneo has it in 5 stores already, komputronik will have it soon, same for RTVeuroAGD, next week tuesday. I may go check to see if the sony store has a model already for testing, they had the Z before its debut so perhaps the Z1 is there already.

That's about the 3rd or 4th review I have seen where they have said that yet again the Camera has failed to live up to expectations, the CNET review said the same, same old same old Sony?

It's not just CNET that are saying it though is it, quite a few sites are saying the same thing.
