thanks smiler... unfortunately I have way too many apps and music videos to do that individually, but having tried to restore a backup (which seems to have been done after the failure) I have now sent an email to the itunes team to sort out.

in the meantime I have now recreated my playlist and re-added all my podcasts (arrrggghh!)

on the other hand, 2.2 is working well so far and I do like the ability to download podcasts over the air

haha lol, unfortunate matey. I couldn't get it to work... dont think i was doing it properly. I only 'upgraded' and didnt fully restore, and when i rejailbroke and tried to hit restore in aptbackup it said it can only be done when the iphone has been restored. pff. Right clicked on restore from backup in itunes, and still didnt work.

Still trying to sort it all out bit by bit as i type... lol Almost there..

EDIT: Btw, why are you restoring anyway? Cos you were going to use aptbackup? Or are you restoring to custom firmware without the baseband update?

It's pretty much pointless any way really, it doesnt backup any settings from cydia apps, just literally names and will download them again. Could just write a list instead! I suppose the only thing is installing apps that you need to respring after installing them, can take forever to get there! Categories is my next task - takes fooking ages to get sorted!

I just couldnt be doing with restoring and potentially losing all my texts etc. Tis annoying. So i just 'updated' in itunes then run quickpwn.

Although my mate replaced his white 16gb iphone at the weekend (the whole back piece fell off!) and when he synced the new one all his old texts were there! I didnt think itunes synced all your texts? hmm.

No problems for me with the 2.2 upgrade (not jailbroken). I'd say it was definitely a worthwhile upgrade just for the improvements to Safari - I'm finding it *much* more stable now. Things seem slightly nippier in a few other places, there are some other good additions here and there, and basically I can't fault it at all. In theory, email fetching is more reliable now, and I've seen nothing to disprove that (although the problems there were always very intermittent).

Yep no safari crashes for me either yet *fingers crossed*

Tbh, no other noticable improvements in speed over 2.1, apart from atm it being a fresh install - things always run quicker after a freshy

One thing that i did notice (that is perhaps bugging me the more i think about it for some stupid reason!) There is no icon next to 'usage' in settings. Wasn't like this before. Anyone else got this?

ah i see. That would prob be it then... didnt realise texts were saved in the backup. Cool, cheers

edit; Yup...can just click update and it'll sort it out. Then quickpwn to jailbreak. Obviously once you update in itunes you lose the jailbreak and all the jailbreak apps. Just meant i didnt have to sit there whilst all the stuff re-synced if a full restore was done

Obviously this is due to something you've changed/installed through jailbreaking, since it's quite different to my settings screen - on mine, "Usage" isn't shown there at all. To see Usage, you click on the "General" tab, and it's near the top of that screen.

None of the options under "General" have any icons, so "Usage" fits in fine there
