The Symbian clam/flip-phone Nokia N76 has now reached independent UK dealers, although no sign of it with any of the networks yet.

Maybe a few pointers for pedagogues emzansi...
This is the message that apparently a Secondary School staff in the Midlands voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine.
This is the actual answering machine message for the school.It came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and Parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework.
The school and teachers are now being threatened with legal action by some parents who want their children's failing marks changed to passing marks -even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the term and did not complete enough schoolwork to pass their various key stages.
The outgoing message:"Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right member of staff, please listen to all the options before making a selection:
To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1
To make excuses for why your child did not do his/her work- Press 2
To complain about what we do - Press 3
To swear at staff members - Press 4
To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your Newsletter and several letters posted to you - Press 5
If you want us to bring up your child - Press 6
If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7
To request another teacher, for the third time this year -Press 8
To complain about bus transport - Press 9
To complain about school lunches - Press 0

Regarding your previous post, i truly feel it with the staff of that school! It's sad when one considers what parents sometimes expect of a school... At my school it's a common occurrence to have a parent arrive and make demands without even knowing the name of their child's class teacher, nor the grade or class in which his/her gifted offspring is to be found...
Lately i've taken to using my phone to surreptitiously film the more violent/objectionable offences when they occur in my presence. It always provides a wonderful sense of vindication when, after the parent has eventually put in an appearance and has threatened to disembowel the lot of us, said parent loses that mournful b..b..b..but-this-can't-be-true!!-my-child's-the-victim-here look upon his face... and acquires that look in the eye which i'm certain all of us remember all too well from when we were kids... that look which promises a further domestic discussion with the child, usually involving a belt/slipper/taai klap or worse.

You know the sad thing Wanga.Everytime a new N-series phone comes out,it goes in one ear and out the other for me.Theres just so many of them.Also Ive been through about 17 phones on my journey to the P990i and I think Ive finally found a phone that I thinks a keeper.Finally! |

@da wanqsta: Not too many tears being shed for Percy Sonn in some sections of South Africa.
About the N76: Nokia has basically chosen to diversify it's N-series in terms of offering as many form factors with a varied list of features amongst them.
It bewilders the non tech savvy consumers but it also gives people who know what they want lots of choices.

Ya, I guess it's a similar scenario with me and the P900.
I enjoy the N73 too, but I still end up using the P900 as my primary phone.
The P990's latest firmware seems to have finally sorted the phone into what it should've been at the start, hardware excluded, of course.
At this stage I'm still aiming to get the P1i, but who knows, I may yet be tempted by an exceptionally good P990 deal.
We'll see how things pan out with the P1i and related offers over the coming months.

True, the N-series punters are spoilt for choice, and judging by what's on the horizon in the rumours thread, it's soon to diversify, quite emphatically, even more.

What you talking about Wanga.That pink tassled brollie is absolutely delightful.It perfect for that gay guy in this thread with the N95.Only jokes Falc's.By the way my second choice of phone would still be the Nokia E61i,so I dont have any gripe with Nokia. |
