is the N series really that bad KBR?i mean because when i was getting my n95 and asked the manager about reliability he said that 90 percent of new n series phones are problematic so he would assume i would bring it bak soon!the phone does hang a couple times a week but not to the extent that i'm willing to give it in for two weeks which is average turn around time for mtn

@ Jojo,
LOL...add 6-and-a-half years onto that 30 and that'd equate to Amawanqa's true age.
@ jmash,
Ya, I just can't part with the thing, it seems. Glad that the P800 is still soldiering on too.
I've still gotta check out Nelspruit some time; the closest I've been to date was probably Witbank and Middelburg.
@ Falcon,
The N95, at this stage, seems to be far more stable compared to when the N80 et al were launched.
As regards my S60 handset, the latest Nokia firmware update certainly sorted out the initial teething gremlins that the original N73 firmware had.

Another example of 'the grass is always greener':
That new bike of mine was insured today, after spending ages getting quotes. As I've mentioned before, every vehicle on the road here, by law, has to be insured.
Vehicle insurance is categorised into bands here, the highest and most expensive being Insurance Group 17.
The first bike I bought, which is a 1000cc machine, fell into Insurance Group 14. The new one fell into Insurance Group 16! This is because of it's racer-on-the-road pedigree and the fact that it is new, even though it has a smaller engine displacement...
To give you guys an example of some of the costs of living here, this is what we pay roughly a month:
Mortgage: approx £1100 a month
(That's for a 3 bedroom detached house in a good area close to London!)
Life Insurance (complete) £100 a month
Building and Contents Insurance £40 a month
Gas: approx £50 a month (in Winter months)
Council Tax (rates): approx £140 a month
Electricity: approx £40 a month
Sky Digital: £21 for the Family Package a month
Broadband: £16 a month
Telephone landline rental: £11 a month
Petrol: just under 90p (approx R12.00) per litre for 95 unleaded!

@wanga How does your broadband work? Do you pay per megabyte or time spent online? Are internet rate pricey there like is here.We been ripped off bigtime in this country.Virgin has good rates at 50c/megabyte but dont have 3G infrastructure compared to R2/mb for Vodacom/MTN if you dont buy a data bundle.Wish Telkoms competition would just hurry up and shake the boat a bit. |

@ HOBBS,
The £16 (approx R225) I pay a month is for unlimited use, irrespective of the total hours or MB amount used.
It's currently the cheapest unlimited flat rate here. The more expensive broadband packages than this allow for faster speeds.
For example, I have the AOL (my ISP) 'Silver' package, which allows for the unlimited usage, but capped at a max speed of 2 MBPS. Now that ain't a train smash...
People see slightly cheaper specials on the Net here, but fail to read the fineprint properly, ie. the 'special' rate may be only for the first 3 months or have some other catch.
An old but very wise cliche: It pays to do your 'homework'.
There are indeed various ISP's that have MB usage caps here etc., but I couldn't rattle off the various rates purely because there are so many ISP's and to be honest, they are of no significance to me. All that interests me is the cheapest unlimited broadband connection.
I'm actually not a big daily downloader of things at all, but with the mrs having her own PC and net access via the router, plus my nephew who stayed with us for 2 years as well as all my browsing, it was quite apparent that we didn't want to get caught out going over any limits... literally a few Pounds extra a month for the unlimited option makes far more sense.

That's quite depressing, I thought I was being ripped off when I headed over to Market Toyota and they want R1400 for the scheduled maintenance on my 2005 Tazz.

Ya, it is rather depressing, I guess.
However, the main difference between me living here and in SA is that I am fortunately able to take care of all the bills etc with my salary and still have some shekels left over each month to spend or whatever... the better half's salary is a savings of sorts.
If I was still teaching in EL, taking into account SA prices, there's no way we could pay all the bills on one salary and have something left over.
All that said, I really miss the Eastern Cape and the people back home. No such thing as having the best of both worlds, methinks.
BTW, that's such a brilliant li'l car you have there, brixsta. We hired a 2005 Tazz when we were last in SA and absolutely loaded it with all our luggage and goeters. We travelled all over the Western and Eastern Capes with it and it never missed a beat... That car, for a 1300, was fantastic.
No wonder they fetch such excellent resale values.

Good morning, Jojo. So your birthday's anytime now..when in May?
Yup, I hit 37 in November.
We're going to be attending the biggest outdoor bike show in the UK in a few weeks' time, called the BMF Show. (British Motorcycle Federation).
It is held in Peterborough at the East Of England Showgrounds.
I'll be taking plenty pics with the N73 and uploading some decent ones on your non- pics thread.
It's just hit midnight here and it's time I got to bed...these late nights during the week are catching up on me. Don't know how Francois and sometimes The Kryptik One manage to burn the midnight oil so much without being pseudo-zombies the next day at work...a concoction of Bio-Plus and muti?
Anywayz, gotta go. G'night, ya'll.

hehehehe you young whippersnappers, lol!! During last week i was made to realize that i'm growing older... A new colleague had joined the staff, a gentleman who'd been teaching for a few years... to my surprise, he turned out to be a former student at one of the first schools at which i taught. Time moves on faster than one sometimes realizes or wants to admit...

Lol its so bad that they have a seperate N-series section for repairs!!
Lol but from what iv heard the N95 is more stable than the others, I taught the E61 was very stable but it has its own niggles that never go away even with SW upgrades. Lets say I use all the Nokios that come out I think the only one I returned for no reason at all was a 9300 back in the day, all the others had problems like staying offline, freezing, vibrating for no reason, not showing call lists etc etc etc.

Yeah, nokias are not 100%, but considering the alternatives I still prefer them. Hope to get my n95 as soon as the price drops to more acceptable levels and at least 2 firmware upgrades have been released. On another note, yesterday I had a very very nice flight close to my home town. A fish eagle come out of nowhere and spend a few minutes in the same thermal. I have tried to take a pic, but the camera 'froze'. It caught the thermal about 50-70m below me and it outclimbed me by a ration of about 2.5:1 without flapping its wings once! That means it has a minimum sink of just under 0.5m/sec. ! It also circled the same direction I did and for the 30 or so sec when it just overtook me the distance between us was no more then 20m. The climax came when it 'called' twice just before it left the thermal about 70 or so metre above me. The amplitude of the sound it made, impressed me most. Althou I had a 'full face' helmet I found the 'call' to be very loud ! About 2x louder then the bark of my 50kg doberman ! ! !
