@Detox
I'm not saying that your thought is impossible of happening but I meant for flagships announced at CES/MWC and IFA in recent past since Kaz took over:
xperia T MSM8260A > xperia Z MDM9215M > xperia Z1 S800 > ? = always new processors for new flagships. we could also say the Z1 is a "refresh" of the Z.
they will only announce a refresh at MWC. mark my words (or not).
i think that the consumer see S800 as S800 and the Z1 mini will hold the flag until MWC...
on top of that, there are no leaks of a flagship - i don't think that sony is that good with their no leak policy. i would at least expect to see a leaked list of final spec a few days before the 7th if not a photo.

ZOMG also mentioned this recently:

"I have heard that there could be some good news at CES and the new Xperia "Sirius" Z1s is supposed to release on at least two of the four major networks. Though I have heard that before and it hasn't materialised so I tend to keep it to myself these days. So much BS from SCA middle management these days."

At least we don't have to wait long to find out what this good news might be

zomg has been going on about how he feels Sony needs to dump their TV and VAIO division ASAP to focus on their other products. I dunno if he has any actual insight into what's going on. Either way, we should find out all about their TV innovations in just 2 days

Bloomberg: Sony Said to Explore Sale of Gracenote Audio-Recognition Service

From Bloomberg, Dec 17, 2013, 7:17:06 PM
Sony Corp. (6758), looking to shed units to focus on fewer products, hired Frank Quattrone’s Qatalyst Partners to explore a sale of its Gracenote audio-recognition software business, two people briefed on the matter said.

Ok, here is what zomg just said about the TVs:

"4K LCD. Slightly fancier backlighting. No OLED and CLED. Sony have dramatically scaled back OLED investment for consumer grade products. The announcement was made on Christmas day, as it is a good day to bury bad news."

A damn shame

Supa_Fly:

Sony already agreed to sell Gracenote to Tribune for $170 million:

Sony has to be profitable first. Right now the TV and Vaio divisions are bleeding money like nobody's business.
If they can return to profitability based on the PlayStation, Mobile and Camera systems divisions, along with maintaining and increasing profitability with Sony Pictures and Sony Music (damn shame that Breaking Bad has now finished) as well as their financial service division, then all will be good.

I mean, nobody's saying they should scrap the Bravia and Vaio divisions altogether. There is every chance, that Sony could re-enter those markets once they've set themselves a better financial foundation.
If they don't want to stop production, then they can reduce overall costs by out-sourcing various components to bring the failing arms, back into the green.

Either way, SOMETHING needs to be done.

What do we know about the upcoming tablet? I assume it's to be shown at MWC. What else though?

It's too early for the s805. Tegra 5 or s800?

I'm certain there's no worldwide z1 refresh only because there's no worthwhile, marketable chip upgrade. Along the same line, I think it's likely for there to be at least two 10" tablets next year, one shown at IFA so they remain competitive, unless they call the MWC one tablet Z2...

I feel that the tablet Z1 or Z2, whatever it will be called, should ship with a S800, and most probably a high res screen, so anything along the lines of the new note 10.1.

I would prefer an 8 inch tablet from sony, running android, but I'd actually prefer the 8 inch tablet to be running baytrail and also on windows 8.1 with android as a second boot OS. It is something intel will be pushing this CES apparently.

I would love to see a Laptop+Tablet that can be used a smartphone second display, wether by having MHL input in the laptop/Tablet or by using Screen Mirroring... but having a laptop with MHL input is cool already

Now they need to find a way to send touch command in wireless and MHL also... donno if that mobile DP specification will allow such use or not...

No! Please don't sell VAIO division, I just bought my vaio pro 13 and I love it
They should strengthen the relations between vaio and mobile division to make phones and tablets perfect companions for their VAIO PC's.

About that 4k TV it may not be CLED and it has edge LED but it still has great picture quality with almost perfect screen calibration according to the reviews I've read so I can't see what's the problem with it

It's hard to change everything in one year so decisions shouldn't be made based on emotions.

Imo in Vaio division they should focus on two high end products with big margin; one ultrabook and one laptop, pretty much like what Panasonic is doing with their 4k tablet which probably has huge margin. In TV division they should outsource everything except for their Trimaster professional TVs. Sell their shares in Olympus which is up 150% on year and invest in Xperia or buy more shares in Sony's financial services or use it to restructure the entertainment division.

Just give me a super thin 13" Vaio laptop running Android. Why hasn't Sony done this?

Please don't sell vaio and bravia. I love both of these products. I have vaio duo 11 and vaio tap 11....both of these vaio are very good. I don't think there is any other notebook that can beat the vaios. I will pick vaio tap 11 over mac air anytime.

I have bravia W8 series.... And I'm super happy with it.

Again, I think vaio and bravia are very good products produced by sony.

Who the f*** wants that? Seriously....?

The market barely supports Android tablets and Chromebooks, so how could this possibly be a good idea? A company which is struggling to make any profits, shouldn't waste a shed-load of money making a high-end ultrabook and load it with Android. Throwing money from an already unprofitable division, down the toilet.
