Have you got something like Skype or Steam running in the system tray? Anything in the background that might use the microphone? Especially if it's a USB microphone.

Failing that, I'd guess it has to be a soundcard setting. Have you thoroughly checked the start menu for a separate sound card control panel app?

Hi Cyco,

Would you know why iTunes isn't letting me import video into my library?

It's version 7.4.2.4. running on Vista.

I click the video file to import it, the select file box disappears and then nothing happens, video is still on the HDD but not in my library.

The only way I can get video on is when I import it from a removable source and that isn't really any good for me.

i have BT total broadband with a BT home-hub or w.e it is and for some reason it was working fine via ethernet to my desktop PC and via wireless to my n95...but not via wireless to my Vista PC....so i restored back to XP and it hasnt crashed once since(touch wood). I just wondered if you could help me out with this as i did really like vista....although XP does seem more compatable with....umm....everything

FORGOT TO MENTION: it wasn't all the time on my laptop it was like an intermittent problem and it would go off and on like at least 10 times most nights

@arien617

Will it import any videos at all from the hard drive, e.g. some quicktime files but not all of them?

I've never come across this problem myself so I'm having to ask a couple of mac buddies! Apparantly, it happens with the mac version too sometimes and they solved it by reincoding the videos but that's not really a suitable solution in my view

@A L 3 X

It could be anything from a duff driver to vista's security settings. If it's a security issue, the connection will drop roughly once every three minutes.

For diagnostics, first run Diagnose on your wireless adapter. Do this by
right-clicking on your network icon in the system tray. Then select Network
and Sharing Center. From there, click on Manage network connections in the
left-hand navigation bar. Then, right click on your wireless connection and
choose Diagnose. The results should indicate if you have a security mismatch.

It could also be power saving, the network card gets switched off after a period of no data transfer. You can switch power saving off via device manager.

In some cases, I've had to set the Vista PC to use a static ip address to get round similar problems, so that might be worth a try too.

It's not having any video in any shape or form off the hard drive.

It does take it off removable media though but thats not an option currently.

No dialogue or anything, the "open file" box closes and there's been nothing imported.

Hmmm... have you checked the file properties for read only and such like? Or if it's vista, there may be other security measures preventing itunes from importing them?

None are read-only..

There are no warnings from Vista or anything but if it is Vista causing the problem, would there be any way for it to be sorted?

There should be but I'll have to look into it because as I said, I've never come across this problem before. I'll see what I can dig up...

Yeah, I get that too. My solution is to plug in a network cable and after 5 mins it sorts itself out.
