So you edited your thread....never mind.
So you think i have a nancy thread?...I have that Avatar because laffen thought i derserved it...so are you trying to say laffen is wrong?...I contribute far more to esato that you could ever dream of doing so stop being jealous and grow up!...
Im sure laffen will come to a decision on this and put an end to all this bickering.

My sentiments exactly.
so.... Scotsboy, I am not necessarily against a dedicated forum for politics, news, religion, sports in general, football in particular, or any other forum. However i wonder if there is indeed so much political/religious debate going on at this board to warrant a presence of such a forum? Indeed it would seem rather pointless to me to have a forum with 3 active threads and 15 locked flame wars, just so that a few people can choose to look the other way and avoid said 3 active threads.
Having that said, i also wonder if such a separate forum will indeed successfully make everybody not wishing to get involved look the other way. Please excuse me if I'm wrong, I am not as up to date on esato as I used to be, but it is most certainly my impression that a large number of people in this thread, and indeed a large number of people that seem to have taken a stand for or against the presence of political threads, are also the ones that seem to rather actively post in such threads, and indeed are the ones that cannot stay away from such threads, civil or not, when given the choice.
So how relocating the perceived problem will help us, if all the people who engage in less polite debate are relocating with it, is not quite clear to me to be honest.
Although shown as a joking example, i think the mention of sports threads is actually a very good example of other things in life that can cause uncivilised heated debate. Indeed I can recall rather rude and immature remarks by certain footy lovers made on themes of football themes..... argument is hardly limited to politics imho. Should we therefore move all threads about sensitive topics to a different environment? or should we instead just learn to behave maturely in the presence of such topics?
Then something of a slightly different matter, but I wonder why some people seem to bring in their own arguments into this (and apparently various other) thread all the time? I dare say it has little to add to the topic at hand, and is quite confusing and tiring to those who try to follow this topic to see where it will lead
Finally to vanquish: it might help to try and not take every remark personal. General comments on peoples behaviour may very remind some people of their own acts on this forum, but that doesn;t necessarily mean the remark was intended at any specific person. If we keep the personal sentiments and arguments at bay for a while I think that may help keeping this thread focussed.

I am not interested in anyone's personal grievances here, nor is the majority of the forum. This really isn't the time or place for name calling or other such infantile behaviour. If you two still have a problem then please take it elsewhere.
I have already had one thread derailed because of you two and I don't think laffen will be jumping for joy at the prospect of his thread sufferring the same fate.
Just when we were talking about how that religious thread is a model of civility this happens! It really does seem as if some are predestined to cause this nonsense.
Can a moderator either clear out the extraneous comments and can we please use this thread for the purpose it was intended for?
I apologise if my comments seem harsh, but really!

Okay.
Laffen, you appointed the wrong person to have a specialised avatar, the wrong person to be able to post up news because his reputation elsewhere lets him down.

Stop taking this thread off topic.
Lets continue to discuss the issues of political and religious threads. The people in favour of them dont seem to understand that they cause tension. They cause tension! why dont people see that! Come on mods, post up, we want to hear your views

@Vlamm
That's a good point you make and I would agree with it for the most part. The trouble is that the numbe rof political/religious threads isn't the problem per se, rather it is more a case of them either degenerating; snide political comments in other threads; immature and infantile behaviour; narrow minded dogmatic determination to enforce one's own personal canon or just plain and simple political aggrandisement.
A seperate political forum isn't my first choice as you well know, personally my pillow would not be soaked in tears if they were banned outright. Having said that, there is indeed a community here and it is a fair point to make that that community wishes to discuss a range of non-mobile issues. However, a small minority of people and a small rnage of that non-mobile discussion should not be allowed to cause the arguments and flaming we have seen recently and, indeed, see all too often in my opinion.
A seperate forum might not be a bad idea if it helps to focus and coordinate such debates. Perhaps then we shan't have to see political commentary on all and sundry. Of course whether that will happen or not is another story ...

We could always appoint new moderators, respected members like Vlammetje or you. And they could focus on the mobile free zone and keep flaming under control?

If you had some manners and respect we could keep this on topic...but you seem to want to derail this thread every time.
The only reason you think politics cause tension is because people such as yourself seem to think so.

Chaps. let's just leave the personal comments out of this shall we? I'm sure we all want to show the moderators that we are capable of reasoned debate without resorting to getting personal.
