hmmmm.... it looks as though SE have stopped Voda users from updating the firmware.
I just tested it, and it came back with an "update prohibited for this provider" message. |

Bastards.
Glad I got my phone upgraded before they stopped it. Only problem is my wife wants one now, but hates the Orange branding. If I have done the update once, are the update files stored on my pc? Could I run a manual update? |

Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service! |

That sucks. I'm getting mine in the post now and only ordered it because I thought I would be able to update online and remove the Orangness.
Thank you very much Orange. |

Has anyone tried the recovery option instead of the update?
I am trying it now but it has been running for about 20 minutes. All it says is 'Please Wait...........'
I don't mind waiting, just hope it works! |

Yeah tried that....
No luck either
"Incorrect use of recovery mode
Recovery mode can be used only if you already have used the Sony Ericsson Update Service in normal mode before.
If your device is operational you should remove and reinsert the battery, then Start over.
If your device is non-operational, please contact your nearest service location."
Would an se service centre do a software upgrade?? |

I also get the same error (after waiting for ages).
Called Sony Ericsson and they said that they software should never have allowed upgrades so those who managed to upgrade were lucky.
Apparently there is a Sony Ericsson Service Centre is South London which should be able to update the phone. Might wait to see if anyone has cracked it first as I am not sure they will update and Orange handset. |

Boy am i glad i chose O2 over Orange yesterday! I was only considering Orange because of the new firmware update.
... although at least i would have the phone this month if i'd gone with orange! |

Yep, spoke to SE as well and they confirmed that you can no longer update Orange handsets. If you take it to an SE centre then they will upgrade the firmware for you, but you will not lose the Orange branding.

I wonder how long it will take for unlocking services to update for the K750i. It's disappointing that Orange allowed some to update and not others.

AHHHHH!!! Just ordered it from Orange, to get an amazing student deal! Was banking on being able to use a SE update! My friend has a completely unbranded version, and its the Shizzle!
Really wish they'd leave things the way they were supposed to be! Atleast all the functionality is there. Will be getting it debranded as soon as possible. My brother does electronic engineering, and managed to reverse engineer the sony update software, to trick it into debranding his sony P900. He says it may be possible to do this for the K750i. However this nolonger works for p900, as SE have changed their security check.
My bro sez its best to go to an unlocking shop in london or somewhere. Hopefully it won't be too long before they can accomodate us!

mocara,
I think it was more a case of some of us getting through before Orange closed the loophole. I don't know why they do this: I don't really think they can argue consumer protection since it is only a small group of die-hards (i.e us) who have the know-how and inclination to update the phone.
Anyhoo, I seem to remember that there was a manual update option on the site. This was to be used if your phone was dead and you had previously updated it. Which leads me to think that if you have updated it in the past then maybe the updated firmware or a requirement for it is still on my pc. Maybe I can still unlock other K750s! Still, I'm not about to test it on my phone in case it goes back to Orange branding... |

I took it to a SE centre and they tried installing unbranded firmware but it wouldn't work. SE haven't released any updates to the Orange firmware - so a wasted journey for me! |

Well,
Mine is arriving 2morro morning! So I shall try a few different tricks. God knows I might be lucky, and it come unbranded
Anyone know if they managed to unbrand theirs on SEUS, if another update will rebrand the phone! I hope not!
Thanks
