@themarques,

Which disclaimer mentions O2 as giving piggy back service? The only mention of O2 I have seen so far just mentions them as an alternative airtime provider (I think because Vodafone Ltd owns one or two service providers who handle O2 connections as well as Vodafone ones).

Just to let you know for 3UK. O2 ONLY supply the 2.5G network coverage (voice calls for those who don't know ) where 3g isn't available. Hence the nice big amount of free voice calls.

@ Mckinley (sorry if there is a typo )
Orange are launching a wicked phone made by sanyo that looks the bomb. But I'm sure some of you already know that lol
Orange's 3G network currently covers 66% of the UK population - including London, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Leeds.
T-Mobile are launching with Z1010 as are orange, that nokia one that voda and orange have and another exclusive at launch from motorolla I think. But I don't have any details on that one.
O2 have just released info for the new XDA-IIs, which is a modified XDA-2, but when they do their 3g rumour (yes rumour) has it that there will be an XDA-III which will look the same but be 3G. This will make it the first Windows Mobile powered 3G phone in this country. In germany it could be called the MDA-III on T-Mobile, and in france I think it will be called the TDA-III on orange (I think thats the right way round)

Unfortunately I don't have massive inside info just a few little things

Question to V800 owners : can you put a MP3 song as ring tone, or do you have to download it from Vodafone (and pay it!) to put your MP3 as ringtone, which is the case on most branded phone?

One little reason that I would wait for O2, is that they are the only ones at the moment that appear to be trialing already Mobile TV on handsets. The trial was in oxford 100km2, where the phone could receive 16 digital tv stations. But as I said before I'm sure a few of you already know this

Voda what have you got that is close to this

here is your answer (no, you can't)

edit: however I assume the instructions in this guide will also work for the V800

Just back from a wee shopping spree in town and i went into a vodafone store to give the v800 a spin and i must say its a very stylish phone, the piano key black is lovely and its alot slimmer than i expected, but once again, its a great phone ruined by operator customizations

I've always been an advocate against branding but the way I think about the vodafone branding on the V800 is that if I do keep this I will only use it on vodafone 3G anyway and since there is quite a bit of free content (especially until end of feb) the vodafone live button is actually quite handy and there really is not alot of other stuff and what there is on the housing seems fairly tasteful for a change

that said, there is quite a bit of "buy now" in the live stuff too

@Superluminova
My bet : SE is gonna release an unbranded version of the V800 in both claimshell and barstick versions very soon (<6 Months). It might look different (different design and naming) and functions may differ a little bit different too, but think : they have the technology (OS/HD) and they need to optimize the investments they made in the technology of the V800 which will not be diedend only through one channel or operator (Vodafone in this case). So there WILL be more unbranded models with the same plateform, you can be sure!

My second bet : within 6 months, we'll know how to crack the SE branding on the V800 and put an unbranded OS on the phone.

thats a very true point about only using it one voda 3g plus all the free content is very good and the external branding looks very nice for a change as you say,

but i just really didn't like the look of the GUI on the phone it didn't suit the style of the phone, some of it was nice but all in all i'd prefer SE's original GUI, other than that i love the phone, lol

Im sure you could buy a V800, and then flash the phone with Z1010 or S700i firmware..

I tried the V800 yesterday, and while i liked the GUI, the Vodaphone icons ruined the whole package for me. Also, i hated all the LIVE links where normally there would be none or SE home links, and the Vodaphone badge under the main screen.

Im still going to wait until Cebit next year to see which phone im going to buy next (P1000, unbranded V800 etc), unless i can get a cheap deal on an unbranded megapixel SE phone.
Check me out on Instagram ! search for etaab !

SMS alerts appear to be limited to the classic preset options I'm afraid.
