you mean this in the pic (that you can't see 'coz you're on wap )
I assumed it was a light sensor to adjust the brightness of the display but I don't see mention of it in the PDF manual

Well, covering it with your finger doesnīt have any visible effect. I donīt have any suggestions of my own though, unless itīs related to the camera.

doh' I should have thought of at least testing if it was what I thought it was
anyway... I just called Motorola out of curiosity and was told that it is there for use during the manufacturing process to hold the phone so that it doesn't get scratched

Well, so much for our advanced theories then..
Reminds me of a radio program i heard once where they asked: Do you know the reason why the holes on golf courses are exactly *** (donīt remember the diameter, but whatever) And when sitting there thinking like, well it must be something about 3x the diameter of the ball or something.. He said: Well, itīs because that happened to be the diameter of the sawed of pipe with a T-handle the first golf course owner used to make the holes, which then became standard

hadn't heard that. here is a link to something about that
(but lets not get too off topic)
btw, there is another similar sized hole at the bottom of the keypad but it doesn't appear to be covered with plastic but there is still no mention of it in the manual so perhaps its for the same reason

Youīre right, that was off topic.. funny anecdote though, goes to show that sometimes the answers are not very complicated
Back to topic: My camera (havenīt taken more than 2-3 pics so far) doesnīt seem to have any "tint", neither red nor blue, in fact itīs the best phoney..sorry phone cam i have had so far in low light conditions! No grainy pics, no tinge, just a little blurry.
As you may know by now, i am no fan of camera phones at all and would in fact buy phone without cam altogether if it was possible.. but this one isnīt woeful anyway

I have to agree. the pics do look good and indoor pics don't seem to have the tint whereas outdoor pics do have some tint depending on the brightness of what you are taking a picture of
its display is also one of the best. last weekend we put the V3, SP3i, K700, T610 a friends Nokia 6600 together after taking the same pic and the V3 was easily the shining star of the displays

I guess alot of people are attracted by the styling of the phone (and thats personal taste) but having used it for 4 weeks or so I find so many more options and settings for making things how I want them than I get in most SE phones. I like the way it sits in my hand and on my belt (not so bulky). As I was just saing in this thread, the display is excellent compared to many phones around at the moment and the cam does take good pics for a phone.
its been along time since I used a motorola phone so I can't comment on how similar (if slimmed down) it is to others but if it were identical to an existing model in every way except form I would still choose this one because then the only deciding factor would be the styling.
edit: anyway... stop trying to be a party pooper! I have seen your previous comments in this thread and if you don't like the phone thats fnie! I won#t try and convince you

Warning: this might be a bit off topic.
I need some suggestions. I'm gonna be buying a V3 within the next few days, and today I just found out that one of my neighbors is a Motorola VP. Now, I figure he maybe be able to arrange a significant discount, but of course I cant just knock on his door and ask for one. The guy is three times my age and not very chatty (I've had one 30 second conversation with him so far and he's always in a hurry).
So how do you suppose I go about bringing it up? Or should I not bother? |

I wouldnīt bother.. but thatīs just me of course..
Just think about it. What do you think his family and close friends expect of him when it comes to phones? Add total strangers, albeit neighbors to that and I for sure would tire anyway
@sasha-SE: If you donīt understand whatīs special, no explanation is possible, if you do, no explanation is necessary.. suffice to say itīs in another league than other manufacturers plasticky Dinky Toys phones.
So keep dreaming of one, i guess thatīs the real reason you are sour-graping in this thread anyway?

@Masseur. Thanks for investigating my question. I wont pay that part any more attention.
On the subject of the V3's camera I also agree that it is really good compaired with the other VGA phone cams available. Sometimes in low light I get faint yellow lines in the pictures. It does'nt happen all the time though. If I want some up close of night pics I use my S700i but the V3 is good to take to work as its light and small.
Its been a good while since I last used a Motorola as well. The last one I had was on Orange and was a pearlesant blue colour (also came in silver and black). Think it was called a C630i e. Was a long time ago.

OK, having had a disatrous time with the SE S700i, I am now having to find another phone in a hurry.
I like the look of this one but I'm a bit concerned that the shop i got my S700 from will replace it with a Vodafone branded V3.
As Vodafone massacred the S700 I'm a bit wary of what they might do to this. Has anyone any experience or were you all rich enough to buy it unbranded lol!

Vodafone Sweden didnīt do anything at all cosmetically with the phone, just a simple SIM-lock. Ask to see the phone and find out for yourself that itīs not butchered in any way, software or hardware.
Btw i am very happy with mine so far! Last SE was K700 (which i was also very happy with except the delay when answering a call)

I'm definitely thinking of the V3 as a replacement. I'm a bit wary as the last Moto I had was the T720 which I hated with a passion. But this looks so cool that I'm tempted!
What I need is....
Easy texting
A decent camera and screen
Good loud ringtone volume and decent vibrate
Alarm
Anything else would be nice but they are my essentials. Not even particularly bothered about mp3 as most of the time I have it on vibrate anyway.
Will have to have a feel in the Carphone Warehouse (spit) on the way home! |
