@Fiona - I use my o2 online sim for free gprs only (my main number is on contract) I have never topped the pay n go sim up yet. @all - maybe its a certain "batch" of simcards that it works with?! Just a thought.

GUYS I THINK I MIGHT KNOW HOW YOU WOULD GET IT FOR FREE!
make sure your setup and stuff are all set to port 8080 and etc.. as has been mentioned in previous posts!
BUT, DO NOT REQUEST YOUR BALANCE WHEN YOU ARE CONNECTED TO GPRS! in my experience if you do that, your balance will drop!
when you are finished using GPRS, siply go on flight mode, then switch the phone on again and give it a min, then request yr balance! whohooo! nothing deducted! (works for me anyway)
give feedback plz...

@zyavar
No need to do all that m8 cos i always check my balance while on GPRS and nothing gets deducted so maybe its something with your settings or something and also maybe you are accessing o2 pop3 thats y u are getting charged.

i really dont know what it is, the only way i can find out is if i get credit and try it again. if it doesnt work then, then it has to be to do with the sim card. and im soooo broke at the moment that i really dont no when that'll b:(, im gonna try and beg my mum for money today, maybe that'll work he he
when i do im gonna try the flight mode thingy aswell

@freestyle
keep retrying and it should eventually work.Try restarting the phone and it should work then.

I only took the `activation rejected` warning once. After that I was very angry then I tried it again it worked.
And I just top-upped once. I'm always controling my account while I connected to the GPRS. It's still free. I never paid a peny for GPRS.
But I hate that I can't use cookies, because if I can use them I can send SMS from cookie required web sites for free.

Yes, the lack of cookies is annoying as hell, but i have found that some places work!
An example of this is the "UCAS" website. I am able to log on and maintain the account status indefinitely. Don't ask me why...

Ok sorry to Hi-jack this thread, but I need to get an O2 sim for my PDA. I am starting to think twice as I will be using it via the BT connection on my phone. Has anyone managed to succesfully set it up and what version of PPC are you using? |

My friend I don't think so that u can find this question's answer in here. Because we are taking about only O2 in UK.
Anywhere, I can just using yahoo from wap.yahoo.com and I have got a nice mail account from www.myrealbox.com. This was a experiment site. They were giving free pop3,imap,smtp support. But the last time that I saw they stopped the take new members. You can try this one because u can download your other emails to this site. IT has got a automatic mail reader. Like I said I don't now if they still excepting new members.
I am wondering if anyone try this free GPRS stuff with their PDA or PC. Because some of the mail programs in PC or PDA has got proxy settings. I think if the probram accepts te proxies u can read & send mails. Can anyone try this. Because I'm a little bit away from my computer

To the Aussie, G'day mate! But today isn't so good, 'cause now you know there is no hope in using these settings... on (telstra or optus etc)However, I was in Italy for the last few days and found that the free gprs settings even work while roaming. So, (if you're up for it) You could get someone to send you an O2 sim card, and use free GPRS as so. However, just to be quite clear, you'll need a pxxx or another smart phone on which you can adjust proxy settings...
Well, anyways, welcome to esato.
Nick
