I just did a Successful Upgrade and it went without any hitch..overall process takes approx half n hr with 1 mbps link.
Way to go SE!!! |

This is what you need to do... You must install the PC Suite into a different PC.. The issues has to do with the installer not being able to communicate correctly with your syncstation.. Thus, you must try this install from a completely different PC ... I ran into that trouble for a sec, but fortunately I had a couple laptops to try it on.. Although your syncstation may be working correctly with your back/restore stuff there must be a corruption in that little 12mb installer you had to download... I would bet anything that you should have success with that.. The problem is not with your phone. Again, run this in Recovery mode...

You can find your CDA number under >edit/system information<. I don't know what it's for but you can find it there.
I have also experienced a problem during the update. The problem was I couldn't install the update. It just remained at 0% all the time. Although solved this problem by removing the sim card. A thing worth mention is that I had passworded sim card. I don't know if had the same problem with a passworded sim card.

Have just updated and it seems to work ok, but none of the other languageoptions is there, I use swedish but can only choose UK English. Anyone have the same problem or is it just me? Cant find any new languages in the language updater either, can it be that SE havent updated the new firmware for the other languages?

Update went fine, only problem was on "Backup and Restore" I lost all my WAP/GPRS settings and all contacts, has anyone else had this problem? :-/ |

OMG... It's actually updating...
So what did I do...?
I installed everything on another pc. Tried it... got the same response from the update software... Then I thought to myself: "why not unplug the power"... OMG... That did the trick...
I have no idea why I have to unplug the power and most of you don't have to do that... but it's updating now so me a happy man... |

If your phone was not restored properly then that means either your backup was never performed properly or the restore was corrupted.. In any case, there should be no problem restoring every detail that was on your phone with the exception of recorded voice commands.

I get "error connection with device - remove battery and reinsert and try again" or words to that effect when trying to initialise the device. Which I've done. Still no luck, can't get past this bit. When I rebooted the phone first time after this, the screen went all wibbly, wouldn't light up properly but you coudl see the se logo liek the backlight was turned off and then it just hung, and even when I took the battery out (which was the only way to get it to turn off) the screen kept the se logo pattern and some wibbly lines on it, which fair frightened the shit out of me, I can't tell you, but eventually it faded and behaved itself when I rebooted it again. As I had tried this all with the sim removed (as I have simlock on, as per another poster here), I don't know if this makes a difference.
I've turned off my device lock and sim lock protection before I give it another go now.
Battery was fully charged, fone turned off, all that stuff. About to give it another go.

This update is NOT possible for Orange users or any other contract modified P900s. If the update installer tells you that you already have the most current version then you are getting a false argument.
To expand on this point I believe the update can verify whether you have the most updated firmware provided by your contract carrier. Thus if you contract carrier hasn't approved the latest SE firmware then it technically can still state that its personal latest firmware revision is the most up-to-date. Carriers don't usually carry the latest firmware as the process doesn't permit them to on a technical/economical level. Moreover, different regions of the world will always have differring firmware revisions simply because firmware rollout dates vary for each vendor. That is plain fact. Thus becareful when a carrier states they have the "latest firmware revision". They are more likely going by their personal approved inventory and not neccessarily the manufacturer's rollout inventory. Unless you have a sim free unit you will have to go by your carriers timetable or resort to consulting an approved manufacturer warranty '3rd party' service point.
BTW: It is possible to trick the updater into proceeding with the upgrade. However, once one goes through the process the updater will return an argument that will notify you have a successful update.. However, if it is not working on an approved unit it basically "lies" because it assumed that you provided it with the correct credentials. To re-iterate I don't think the correct "credentials" include Orange or any other contract carrier modified phones AT THIS TIME. However, I don't suppose they will ever allow this as this places the user's warranty at risk. They therefore would hold responsibility for their client's mistakes if modification/upgrades were to occur at a user-level. The process to take your phone and service it themselves or forward it to the manufacturer for service does cost money. But we all know companies cover their butts with warranty disclamers.. Thus don't count on them depending on you to do it yourself unless you are willing to forfeit your warranty.
If your screen info does NOT read what is on the pic I posted then you have not updated your system either because you can't (ir Orange users) or you are having technical difficulties.

You mentioned that only Sim free units were compliant with the upgrade and that carrier dependant units, I.E like mine from Orange are going to fail the upgrade process, But I presume that even having my unit made Sim Free will still not get me the upgrade as the process will detect that I have an Orange doctored firmware?

If you originally purchased a sim-free/unlocked unit, but then are using Orange service simply through the use of their sim card you should be ok... Carrier modified phones will sport the carrier's logo on the casing as well as the bootup screen.. Moreover, they add a couple insignificant programs that an OEM phone wouldn't have... So the key is OEM.. As long as the firmware on your phone is OEM then you are fine.. Other then that all modifications made to an OEM phone is subjected to different terms and liability. Hence all firmware upgrades are customized for each carrier that has a contract with the phone manufacturer.. All routes must go through your carrier first... If SE found a way to get around this with the update then I believe they would be in breach of contract with a company like Orange. Until terms are agreed upon by the manufacturer and contract carrier there is no way of getting around this.. Again you can risk your warranty by totally flushing your phone of the current firmware. The means and ways to do that can not be discussed on this forum.. 
However, this update does not and can not allow this flexibility as SE would probably be subjected to law suits from disgruntled contract carriers. That is the reason the updater is looking for the CDA #... It basically identifies the origin/status (OEM or Carrier Modified) of your phone..

Unfortunately mine is not sim free with Orange Sim, But Orange branded. I have on many occassions been to my local service agent with my T68,T68I and then my P800 and got away with them putting on the latest firmware, but on one occasion when I first had my P800 they said they couldn't do the first firmware update when it was avalailable as Orange had not approved it, but when I went back a few weeks later another girl in the shop did it for me and I suddenly had a P800 devoid of any Orange related firmware, including the startup, but was upgraded to a generic SE P800 firmware with only SE related options, including the startup and SE home Wap page. But this must be hit and miss. My partner has a T610 Sim free, but started off with a Vodafone version that they had absolutely destroyed the operating system with there vile Live! product and dreadful icons and schemes. I sold it and bought her the sim free version, but I kept track of all the posts on Esato with regards to the Vodafone version and did see lots of posts where people had firmware updates and many were saying that they had got their Vodafone versions back with the Live! removed and again a generic SE Firmware and Ops system, So I think that at the service agents they do have the facility to do this, I know from posts that certain agents said they couldn't or weren't allowed. Maybe some made a mistake and accidently put the SE onto a Vodafone Live!, or/and didn't care, So I hope it will be possible for my P900 soon.
