You should goto file, save for web, but select jpg, quality high 60, instead. Smaller filesizes and better looking images (65000colors).

i think some of us needs advices like these.
perhaps we should start a topic on in-depth words of wisdom / tricks&tips from seasoned themeakers like spawn & august. offering ideas & style & a gleam into waz going on in the minds when designing themes
eg: like how cleverly (i notice) august uses the statusbar & softkeys to match not only the wallpaper, but desktop & menu as well, resulting a seamless transition.
also can someone let me noe the xact position(in px) of the popup title in relation to the wallpaper so i can crop right to achieve the effect of a transparent title..... i hope u guys know what i meant
last but not least, thanks to all the ppl who create & share their works of art to make SE a wonderful phone to use & explore it's potential.
Cheers!

@ very...to make any of the dimensions transparent, all you really need to do is cut back on the opacity of the layer. that will determine the depth of the transparency

I think this is waht you mean.
Based on a wallpaper image (128*127) your popup title image is located between 11 and 34 px horizontal and 5 and 123 px vertical. See below.
Wallpaper:
Guides set for popup title:
Now if you use a full-screen image (128*160) you'd set your guides on 25 px and 48 px horizontal and 5 and 123 px vertical.
Hopes his explains it a bit
