cytech, it seems they don't even tell there customer services people either which is strange when they are the first point of contact for customers with problems. I can't remember how many times I have been told (before I started getting cluey) to get an upgrade and see if that fixes a certain problem! Indeed as someone mentioned yesterday they didn't even know that R1L was available since last week!

yeah... it's sad... but true... yesterday put up an announcement on the info page for servicepoints that R1L was released... many servicepoints doesn't check the EMMA server at regular basis, so it's not until put up a release note that they know it's available. |

so does SE ever make list of changes so we can check what is going to be changed and decide if its worth upgrading?
|

yes they does... but it's very rarely that this is released to the servicepoints... so it's no use of asking what the changes are when you are @ a servicepoint... the main thing with R1L is that new languages have been added to some of the language versions.

so i guess if they dont release it to their service points they are not releasing it to ordinary se users either? imo they should post it on their website.... |

I really just want to clear this up...
Voda phones WITH voda stuff can't be upgraded unless its a specific voda only firmware?
also.
Voda phones flashed with non voda stuff, are they treated as normal phones and can be upgraded with normal firmware?
I keep finding so many contradicting posts on this subject, its hard to know what to believe!

Do I (SE service centre) need a special T-Mobile-update like the Vodafone needs Vodafone update to upgrade my T-Mobile branded T610 to R1L? Or can I (SE SC) upgrade it with a normal SE R1L? I also wonder if I can change language in the phone in the same operation.

The selection between generic and Live software is being done manually, despite the deliberately leaked rumors that the "proper" sofrware is being installed automatically, depending on the IMEI. One can flash generic, Live and "transformed" units with whatever software one desires. But...now SE prohibits such initiatives! If the hideous Voda logos have been scraped, your sim has been removed, and the techician is busy...then you get generic software on your Live unit! |

But thats not what i heard from the SE guys. they said that what they do is connect the phone and the server is smart enough to know what type of software your phone is using.
anyway, the voda shit is embedded in the phone and not that easy to change just by upgrading the software. I got rid of my voda shit by flashing the phone's ROM but still there's some shit that can't be changed.... but at least i got rid of the voda branding, icons back to normal, but some of the links still takes me to voda live.... |

That's exactly what happens when you flash a Live unit with generic software. It still takes you to Voda pages, whereas a regular unit takes you to SE pages. Still, the icons return to normal and the right softkey is no longer labeled "Live" (as if other keys didn't get you to that "precious" site!).
Regarding what SE service-point technicians say, it is because this is what they have been instructed to say, since SE has succumbed to financial pressure by our "adorable" Vodafone (just like Sagem has, judging by the comparison of their Live MY-X6 versus the wonderful generic unit, both of which I had the chance to thoroughly compare today).
I apologize for my ironic remarks, but I would have preferred that SE had the guts and the "dough" to say "no" to the Vodafone sickening transformation proposals.
By the way, I have had my T610 flashed with R1L today. The screensaver clock now does change position, there are several corrections regarding the menu labeling, it now displays how many KB the sounds occupy, and GPRS appears very fast and stable, but I don't know whether this is due to the new software or to network improvements.

Awesome, does anyone have any reccomendations as to what the best method of Voda live! removal is? Take it to a shop or do it myself with the T28 data cable?
And why do they put the ! on live, they do everything wrong, and i still don't even like the colour red! <-- that's how it's used properly, get it right vodafone.
