Just to clarify on that point.
Don't buy from Orange Direct.... rip-off!
Go to CPW and get them to price-match Intec Communications in London N3. I think they have it for £30 on Your Plan 400. Now that's what I call a deal! You can still change tariff immdediately if you wish as no dealer can fix you to a tariff. They're just trying it on!

See now that's the kind of info i need...thanks for the heads up...CPW here i come... does it matter if i'm not in London and still want them to match that Intec communication?? You say no dealer can fix me to a tariff but they can very well have their own terms...i'll read all the fine print and ask i guess... Would i be able to find info about Intec Communication online?? that way i can prove to the people at CPW.. |

It may matter if you're not in London, sometimes they can pin you to finding a better deal in the 'local' area . However, if you order over the phone, they shouldn't have problem. I can't remember the number for Intec but I'll post it tomorrow. They've got no online presence AFAIK.
CPW will also price match internet/mail-order only dealers to within £50 of their own prices, not that that helps much as they're charging a minimum of £199.99 for the phone.
The reason no dealer can fix you to the tariff is because, regardless of their terms, Orange will let you change just by calling CS. They don't care which dealer you use.

it's no big deal now, I went to CPW but they didn't have them in stock...said for me to call later he would put one aside for me, they are getting plenty this time. Also, CPW is doing YP200 (30 pounds) at 199.99, so i guess they saw that Intec was doing it too and matched it. |

What they can do, though, is clawback. Orange told me any tariff changes are faxed through to the dealer, along with any effect on commission. Smalltalk certainly reserve the right in their T&C's to then charge you the difference between what you paid for the phone (£50 in my case) and the RRP (potentially £500, I guess). That would make a tariff change rather expensive. What annoys me, is that changing tariff AT ALL is prohibited, not just changing down a tariff. I'd be interested in swapping some included minutes for included data, but leaving the same monthly line rental, but it's not possible. |

ahhhhhhh...this is no good....so CPW will clawback??? damn...Does it say anything in their terms and conditions about them charging you if you change tariff...i looked on their website and couldn't find anything about changing tariffs...i also called and they said the contract is through Orange...so i don't understand how they could prove they told u not to do it or that they warned you about it... |

CPW can't won't and have no desire to claw you back - trust me, I work for them!
As for other dealers, well anything is possible I suppose but I see a few practical/legal issues with clawing back. They can't just charge your credit card. I don't think Orange would really give them details of tariff changes anyway..... data protection etc.
But anyway, not to sound too much like an advert, but buy from CPW, do a price match, don't worry about clawbacks, it won't happen.
Plus, you can get proper insurance not Orange Don't Care!
