a decent autumn sunset off my balcony.. thought i'd compare different modes

Handheld Twilight

20mp manual

I took one in night scene mode, but i must have not been steady cause it came out really blurry. I was in a rush :/

I'm a little disappointed these didn't come out better.. or maybe my hands weren't as steady as i thought! next time, i'll try leaning on the railing to steady myself more or even use my tripod. Like i said, i was in a rush.

The 20mp is more accurate of what I saw with my eyes, but there's noticeably a lot of compression artifacts (white flecks). This is old firmware btw. Next time it's a decent sunset, i'll try again

Well I have very steady hands plus I rested it on the wall. I used night scene as HHT although sharper comes out more noisy. Under street lights looking at the pics full view I think they look decent. Too many people sit there zooming in all the time paranoid about a bit of noise or slight blur. I just think people need to get out more. Anyway next week I plan a trip into the city centre at night fall and take some images of the city from the roof top gardens on top of the new Birmingham library. Also this weekend there is an amazing light show on in the city which will be great for pics.

Amazing how far Sony has come in reducing noise at 100% crops with this phone. I don't take a ton of photos as of right now simply because the camera on my x10a is pretty "meh" and I don't always have my RX100 with me except for special occasions. Can't wait to start snapping anything I feel like once I get my Z1

I would guess old firmware as he's been posting about waiting for the new firmware recently and made no mention of getting it yet.

Very excited by what I'm seeing though. Can't wait to compare my photos against my friends with their iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4

Sorry old firmware. Bear in mind many were taken on HHT mode which produces sharper night images but slightly more noise. So night scene can produce less noise but needs stable surface. Wish this update would hurry up
