Six-way camera shootout: Smartphone roulette
GSMArena
I find it hilarious that the two Androids that set-out to be the best Cameraphones, namely the Sony Xperia Z1 and Htc One both lost to a Phablet, the Note 3, a phone that isn't even being marketed as a cameraphone .How is it that the Note 3 and GS4 have managed to perform so incredibly in the camera dept. without this area even being a focal point for Samsung?
In all honesty I expected the Z1 to be 2nd, after ALL the hype the Sony fanboys created around its camera, it hasn't totally delivered.
Anyway, glad Samsung have once again delivered great products this year.

With the latest software the Z1 is so much better than its current form and perhaps then it would be more of a contest...when the update arrives. Anyway, how are people finding the Note 3? With the Galaxy Round(?!) are people not considering that? Regarding the Gear, I find it creepy that people will find it much easier to take secret snaps with that camera and I don't see any need for that on a watch. |

Just because one doesn't market something, it doesn't mean it can't be of a high quality. (Im not directly talking about the samples from GSMArena since I havent seen them)
Great products? The Galaxy Gear is far from great. It's trying far too hard and the battery is shocking.
I for one was hoping Samsung could have given the Note 3 a more premium finish. The new back is far from premium in real life. Overall quality isn't horrible. But definitely not in the same league as the HTC Ones, Xperia Z1/Ultra and iPhones of this world. This wasn't an issue with the Note 2 at release because most high end phones were still 'plastic' then.
A small price comparison between the Note 3 and the Z Ultra, the 2 high end 'phablets' which have recently gone on sale down under..... The Note 3 is selling for approx AU$150 more than a Z Ultra. (prices official AU stock, not grey imports so I dont see them dropping too quickly. Grey imports on the other hand....)

Well taste differs. I bought the Note 3 because I found it better looking than both the Z1 and Htc One. Not to mention the features, the overall performance and support. Everyone who has tried my Note 3 find its build and looks exellent. I prefer what some people call "plastic" ( it is actually polycarbonate and is used widely in the phone and car industry feks) coz there is less problems with heating issues and reception. My father has the Z1 and it really is a dust and fingerprint collector. The main problems with the Z1, Htc One and the iPhone imo is that you can't change the backcover if it gets scratced or damaged. You can always use a cover but then the argument of glass and aluminum falls Designquality and buildquality are two different things

Speaking of back covers, have you seen how badly an Htc One dents after one bad drop??? It's all nice for people to moan and groan about plastic on Samsungs but whats great about plastic is that it certainly doesn't dent or get scratched as badly as aluminium, which after some time looks awful.

Regarding the camera shootout, I think its better if we read the detail of the article instead of giving over simplified conclusion. Let me spell it out.
Lets talk about Note 3 and Xperia Z1 only.
Daylight photography: "beat galaxy note 3 in daylight photography", clearly Xperia Z1 is the winner
Lowlight shooting abilities: "leave a lot to be desired" on Note 3 while "left something to be desired" on Xperia Z1 and with sample pictures, Xperia Z1 has the edge here.
Video recording : "it stand out from the crowd" on Note 3 while "were very good too" on Xperia Z1 and lacking due to the absence of added features and no video zoom, I think Note 3 has the edge here due to the software/features.
so, overall, if I am to judge the camera capabilities based on the above statements, its clearly Xperia Z1 is the winner. However, in the video recording department, due to the additional features (most of it on the video zoom), note 3 is the winner obviously due to the software.
So, I would not call the note 3 perform incredibly in the camera department and the hype behind the prowess of the Xperia Z1 camera is definitely true. Its camera capability is second to Lumia 1020 but its lacking some of the software features for the video recording.

Whatever makes you happy. If you need the Z1 to be the winner so be it, but this shootout was made by GSMarena and I believe they are more objectiv than you are. You see you need to use both phones and make your own objective shootout before you can select a winner. I have tried the Z1 and the camera did not impress me at all.

your desperation knows no bounds, does it? End of the day they rated the Note 3 higher, that means OVERALL it made for a better camera phone than your precious Sony. End of story
Rikken
They dislike GSMArena now GSMArena didn't do a favourable review for Sony so the fans have slotted GSMArena under "biased mobile review sites", you'll find that they now only support ANY review site that says something nice and will only take those reviews seriously.

Seems some people have a problem with comprehension or maybe they don't care about the details and can't take critical judgement. I quoted exactly what GSMarena said and its not my judgement. The problem is some people prefer to jump straight to conclusion without reading the details. If they care to read, they will know the judgement from GSMarena comes from the Video recording features aka the software features which is superior to the rest.
By the way, If they want to be really objective, they have to assign some weightage (equal weightage will be okay) to each criteria (e.g. daylight, lowlight, image processing, video recording, software features etc) and calculate the figure of merit before giving the final judgement. Since they don't do that, you have to read the details and draw your own judgement.

Quit clutching at straws, it's not a good look
If the Z1 lived up to the hype then it would have destroyed the Note 3 in every way....it didn't, for GSMArena to rate it higher than a Z1 it means the Z1 didn't do enough. You can quote and blabber on about details, but the FACT of the matter is that despite the Z1's huge camera sensor and so on it still couldn't beat the Note 3 overall, hence why it's behind it. I suggest you get over it.

@Tsepz_GP,
I was just quoting words from GSMarena. Xperia Z1 destroyed (according to GSmarena) in some ways such as daylight shooting and low-light and the Z1 didn't do enough at the video recording features. Apparently GSMarena give emphasize on the video recording features more than anything (especially the video zoom) hence they rate Note3 higher than Z1. Its their opinion and they are entitle to their opinion. I don't think they are professional anyway. I don't have problem with that. I got their rating and I respect that. However, me being myself that will also look for details, would like to know how they come to that conclusion and they you are.
You don't have to worry about it. I'm not saying GSMarena is wrong and I agree with them (given the basis of their judgement).I was just repeating their words and put everything into perspective.
