@cu015170: seems like Sammy is determined to outclass both EOS and Honami with this I must admit though, APS-C is way beyond any camera phone sensors could hold against. but NX is known for bad JPEG engine so...

Razec, how can u compare that against Honami/EOS. That is a proper camera, and can't make calls. |

IKR just saying because Samsung is basically making my ideal hybrid, but still NEX is way hotter
please pardon me for the off topic anyway

We will see.. I think that it will be Homani vs. EOS for the next 15-20 months. Nokia have one big advantage in terms of marketing, and that is the megapixel count. Most people think that the more mpix you have the better the picture.. or at least that is what everyone has been told for the past 10+ years.. so having 41mpix written on the phone will work in their favor.
People still think that having 12Mpix in a phone is amazing..
And of course, we have the 808 which will stay along the top cameraphones in the world for a long time. I still think that it might be better than the eos in terms of IQ.. we will have to wait and see.
The Honami is unknown.. but I have a good feeling about that one. |

So i believe Sony is to start using Carl Zeiss in their phones now too like they do in their normal cameras. Also with the return of Cyber-shit branding

It's rumored to use G lens, don't expect Cybershot though, it'll still be Xperia for sure
@cu015170: I'm just wondering how many aperture blades will the EOS's camera have?

Not 15-20 months, but more like 9-10 months as the 2014 Sony Flagship( aka One Sony 2) will sport a 1" sensor similar to the RX100 sensor and will better Honami, Eos, 808 and pretty much everything out there

The EOS2 should be out by then as well.. so we will see.
Also a 1" sensor will require a huge lens... it will be a rather big device, much closer to the gs4 zoom than to the pureview Phase 1 phones. But regardless, if they do that, we will know their intentions.. I would take it as if Sony are turning their backs on their P&S business and starting to realize that their smartphones can almost fully replace them.

What makes you think that there will be multiple aperture blades ? I am still not sure what they are hiding in that circle...
The lens is almost as important as the sensor itself.. especially when you have a big sensor like that, it needs to be high performance lens.
In the EOS it will most like be this beauty.. I really don't know how Carl Zeiss did this, but its an amazing lens.

Im not trying to annoy the Sony fans here, but please, are we really going to discuss Sony's efforts again ? its the same problem every year and started around the time of the Satio. They promised brilliant camera quality which they never lived up to.
I was duped in 2009 by the guys here on Esato to get the Satio over any other phone, I waited and it was terrible. The camera was decent but not a patch on the N8 which came the following year. Its been the same ever since where their cameras are related.

Cyber-shit, sounds like the crazy renamings the kids who hate Samsung create: Samdung, Samshit, Samcrap and so on and so forth.
Could Nokia PLEASE just unveil this already??? It's the only other exciting upcoming product in mobile in 2013 other than iPhone5S/6 and Galaxy Note3, and those will only arrive later this year.

Oh don't worry there is another waiting to debut late 2013 and I think all the haters will be pleasantly surprised.
Forget the camera .... quality pictures and real fluid video to match that of handycams or even 24fps professional digital recording ... I want to see incredible features and performance.
I want to see Nokia's WP give BlackBerry a serious bang to make them push harder in their smartphones! I'm still waiting for BB to make their first carbon fibre or all metal exterior premium smartphone (now with BB10 it'll be worth using). I also want to see BB10 and WP take a chunk out of the revenue and profits of iOS ... aesthetics for the purpose of increasing performance alone should NEVER be done in smartphone. That just shows the poor coding of the OS kernel. Sad because iOS is at its kernel POSIX compatible.
What else can we expect from the EOS from Nokia guys - besides the camera? Surely we don't select a smartphone solely or even 60% or more based on the camera??

What i would love to see one day would be what Sony actually does well in their dedicated digital cameras. What i mean is AVCHD video format @69fps. I once had the Sony HX9V and believe me the video recording was the best i ever seen. If they had that in a phone would be amazing. I have recordings on holidays still with the format. Truly stunning video, which is what cam corders use

Pretty much... other than the camera, they all do the same thing, have the same features.. just different ways of getting it done. Some things are done easier on one platform, others on a different one..
I am using Symbian in mid 2013 as a main smartphone for business, fun, travel.. its by all means a proper smartphone, so.. the more hardware convergence they offer, the better. |
