@etaab, I wouldn't go as far as saying 99% of iphone apps are novelty and useless. If you look at the top 50 paid and free apps I would say none fit that category, and to be honest I am mostly driven by what is popular as that is a good measure in my opinion.
Mind you, I do go through my downloads once a month now from stuff I have picked outside of that popularity list and do have a cleanup.
My son says that he is more than happy with the ovi store offerings, but mind you, he's the only one in the family now that is not an iphone convert like myself, wife, daughter, mother, brother, sister in law, a couple of uncles and aunts etc etc

@ Bonovox - apparently if the phone freezes you simply hold down the power button for 8 seconds and then the phone restarts itself, according to the manual.
@ Masseur - top 50 out of how many thousands ? who knows the actual math and whether an app is worthwhile or not as its based mostly on opinions. But i reckon even the top 1000 apps dont count as that worthwhile 1%. Totally imo of course.
I have friends with iPhones, my sister has just taken delivery of her iPhone 4 aswel as her boyfriend a couple of weeks ago. Im yet to see any apps which i would actually purchase or need unless it was a good game.
Sadly the Ovi store is also now sinking down to the low level of Apple's, with many useless apps which are purely for novelty.

Is there anyway to turn of the auotomated background light setting- that makes the background light normal in ordinary dayligh but too weak in darker envoirments? I have checked settings but only find one that had a slidebar whare you can regulate the strenght of background light(and that one ONLY allwoes me to set light stronger when i´m in an dark envoriments. But when in more normal daylight i can slide tha bar in any direction an get the effect wanted. Do you also have this?)

I have read customer reviews on Carphone site and all customers reviewing the N8 were happy and said its great. They also said Nokia has changed for the better

Ok i´ve asked Nokia about the lightsensor-display light-setting and it´s automated in that sense that you can not chose to have an overal no matter the conditions-light setting.
I think the default display light setting when looking at the display in darker enviroments, is a little to weak. What do you think?

If you go to settings / phone / display / light sensor and like you said move the slider you can increase it to maximum. Doing this, even in dark environments the light stays pretty bright, better than the default.
You cannot turn off the light sensor however.
But, to be honest i agree with you the light sensor does go over the top a little in lowering the brightness setting. However, i think after owning the N8 for two weeks now you get used to it and in fact prefer it. I dont know about your N8, but im charging my N8 every two days with pretty heavy usage. I am absolutely astounded by its battery life. The last time i owned a phone that gave me two full days use without a drained battery was my K750i back in 2005. This is the first smartphone ive owned which has a decent battery life. I think its all down to Nokia's clever power management. They stuck in a fast processor, but not so fast it eats the battery. They stuck in a low power consumption screen, which also using the above mentioned backlight improves battery life by lowering the brightness level when its simply not needed. They also gave the phone a decent amount of inbuilt memory, so that constant access of a SD card does not hinder battery performance again.
Im very impressed by the N8. I can do everything i did on my old Satio, which usually would be dead come 5pm if it was not for my car charger and spare charger i kept at work. Then, two days into the charge the battery only drops one or two bars. Amazing !
@ Bonovox - it comes as no surprise everyone love the N8. As a cameraphone aimed at the masses its near on perfect. Its OS is so stable and intuitive you wouldnt think it was Symbian or even a smartphone. Mine has only locked up on me once and that was down to a stupid third party app i wish id never installed. As for bugs, my phone appears to be free of them. Ive only seen one potential bug since owning the phone, when i was using the gallery to view pictures if i zoomed in on them to make them bigger the screen just went black. This was fixed with a restart.
Oh and ive restarted my N8 about three times in two weeks.

That sounds promising from an actual owner. I am waiting a good few weeks to see how certain phones pan out software wise before I take the step to getting a new top smartphone. I need to stick with something

Id just stick with the iPhone 4 for now if i were you, its far too expensive a phone to change from. Also since by June next year the 5th phone will be due out, you need to get as much enjoyment out of it as you can before then. Lets face it, whenever a new iPhone comes out its makes the older phone obsolete as the OS updates require more and more from the hardware.

Really ? OMG i thought you would have been with it for a long time to come.
Thats such a shame, the iPhone 4 is almost like a piece of jewellry in its design imo.
Id recommend the N8 to you but i think you'd probably do the same with it after a week or two. Wanna buy my Satio ? lol

No,I was set on keeping the iphone 4 but so many call issues not signal but call. I tried everything to no avail. I want to stick with something & make a wise choice not rush this time. I said I got sick of Android but saying this I realised I think I have just not found the right phone as yet. I may be looking at a HTC Desire HD. I really do not wanna keep changing I am getting sick of it myself. I either have problems or am not happy but I guess at some point I may have to compromise somewhere

i have a question regarding the mail box (never used it before). whnever i configure gmail on my N8, either the wifi or 3g network always keeps on connecting, even i disconnect them. the only way i can stop thm for being continuously connected is when i delete my gmail account.
is tht normal.
can somone please advise

@ Bonovox - maybe you should try the Orange San Francisco ? for £99 it aint half bad. Also, would it not be the first nake Android UI you'd ever used ? The X10 and Galaxy S you had both had their own manufacturers UIs installed over them ?
@ naveedaziz83 - im still getting to grips myself with Symbian 3, but could you not try going to settings / connectivity / settings / switch to WLAN > set to manual
also set Data use in home network > always ask
also set Data use when roaming > always ask
then on your homescreen press options and choose Widgets to offline mode
If you still find it connecting without permission, again go to settings / connectivity / settings / destinations / internet. In here either delete or move the destinations setup to another desination by touch and holding on them until the menu pops up and choosing the relevant option. If the mailbox you have setup is defined as needing the internet it wont have anything to use. It will probably then ask you manually what access point to use.
I never use email on my phones so its always one area im not certain about.
