Look at the difference in noise in the red channel (between the K850 and P100):

@apotts,
Something like this? (800x600 crop at full scale.)

Funny thread this one
First of all. No one could for sure think a tiny small phone-cam could outperform a real digicam. And YES there are noice in many full sized "real" digicam shots to if zoomed in to 100%.
I read quite much before buying my K850i and i quickly saw that the N95 does a better job with the pictures in the phone and if you dont touch the pictures after moving them over to the pc the N95 ones would for sure look much better for the eyes.
On the other hand the N95:s pictures are very strong adjusted already in the phone and many pictures look a bit oversaturated and not very realistic.
The K850 pictures need a run in a tiny photo program ( i use AcdSee ) and a quick "autolevel" click and then they come to life. They look very "weak" and "pale" if shooting auto mode. For me this is natural because i always reisze my pictures so they will be kind for the web or small enough to mail away. I adjust some levels on my "real" camerapictures also so this is rutine for me.
I could also add the N95:s strong adjustments afterwards if i would like to and then get quite the same result.
This is also seen in the "real" digicam world. Some manufacturers tune their pictures extremely hard in the cam and details gets lost but the picture comes out with very low noice. Other ones let all the noice and artifacts stay in the picture and details will be preserved along with more noice. It´s a matter of taste i guess.
I think it´s very possible to take funny and enjoyable pictures with them both. Im very happy for my K850i. It does the job much better than my previous K800 and K810i:s but i think it gets beaten by the N95 if i wouldn´t touch the pictures after they come out from the phone. The N95s pictures are much more enjoyable for the eye before giving the K850s a boost

OK,
Which has the better picture quality?
This 1.3Mp photo scaled up to 5Mp?
Or the 5Mp K850 photo?
May I suggest that they are about the same, meaning that the quality of the K850 5 Mp camera is about the same as a 1.3 Mp pocket digicam. |

jst got my k850i today,
i have to say in low lit areas the pics i have taken so far are really poor.
its as if the flash does nothing at all.
That issue has been mentioned at least 30 times on this forum. It's a flash bug. The flash fires just before the photo is taken. A future firmware update will surely resolve this.

What a great reply! This proves the point I'm talking about. The K850 can easily be beaten by a 1.3 mp camera. The K850 just doesn't cut it as a 5mp camera. Look at the two following images:
http://www.esato.com/phonephotos/viewphotos.php?pid=7873 and
http://www.esato.com/phonepho[....]make=sony+ericsson&model=k850i
I don't know about you but the K800 handles grass much better. Every K850 photo looks terrible at full res. Look at this photo at full res: http://www.esato.com/phonepho[....]make=sony+ericsson&model=k850i . It looks like a poor reproduction of a bad oil painting.
Lastly, I'm disappointed to see that Plankgatan has chosen not to post any full res images. I'll take this as admitting his K850 photos will look poor at full res. After all, if I had full res photo's that looked good I would be posting them for all to see.

do you think a good £300 7 M.P digi cam have noice in their pictures IF you look at them in full size ???? (yes or no)
ps....k850 takes better pictures then a 2 M.P phone, it have a much better allround camera........(LEARN YOUR CAMERA.....i own two 2 M.P phones (k750, w810).....and i have many pictures from them.......(a 2 M.P phone is much worse on indoor, flash & night pics, etc....the only realy good pictures i have from k750 is the outdoor pictures.

sigh, yet we are again going off topic, and it's insanity to compare digicam and camphone that's all. you are inclined to believe whatever you wanted to but please take not this is N95 vs K850 comparison. if you really wanted to compare K850 to a 1.3mp digicam then include N95,G600/G800 to the comparison. atm no other camphone can dare to match a real digicam, why is it so hard to admit btw?

It's off topic - but yes the 7mp images I have from my rather cheap Fuji S5700 look pretty damn good at full res.
I agree that K750 shots were not as good indoors or at night. But it still seems to me that even it and the K800 perform just as good outside - if not better at times.
"(and i can show you some more if you want)"
I want - Please do. All I ask, as have others, is for full size samples from your K850. I don't know why you seem to be so angered by such a simple request.

on the same wavelength, why is it so hard to admit that N95 camera beats K850 btw??

I think K850i daytime shots look very good when scaled down to 2MP -- much better than what I could get from my K750i.

Anyway SE Japan has just announced a new member of the SE cybershot family: SO905iCS - if it's sold outside japan then this will surely replace K850's position as the best imaging phone

why you keep insisting of using superlatives when obviously K850 is NOT the best imaging phone. From what we know K850 is behind N95, G600 and viewty in photo quality. |

To end my arguments with you matey, just stick to what you believe and let people decide what they want. as i always said not every review declares K850 or N95 a winner. but at least i won't say N95 is better unless that's what i believe because i also have unbiased sites where i saw K850 macro shots, night shots, landscape shots(views where you can find tree leaves, grasses etc.) bettering N95's. and please don't accuse me of insisting of using superlatives that K850 is the best imaging phone as K850 have far superior DC-capabilities/features than N95(oopps consider that as what i believe )

This really caught my eye:
Here are some pictures of the Japanese Sony Ericsson SO905iCS Cyber-shot phone, that will be announced as a part of DoCoMo’s new 905i lineup of phones.
SO905iCS will feature a 5.1 megapixel CCD camera with auto focus and Cyber-shot branding. Furthermore it’ll have a 3x optical zoom (4.5 - 13.5 mm). It’ll also have a xenon flash, something looking like face recognition and I must say it looks like a real camera!!
(The whole blog post is here.)
This is one mother of a camera phone! This is what M-R talked about when they said that SE would be using the same 5MP Sony sensor as in i-mobile's 902!
Shame that this is only for the Japanese market
If they release anything similar globally then even die-hard N95 fans would be chucking their phones (At least those who actually care about photo quality!)
