It's written in swedish but the content is about javaprogrammers today choosing intelbased macs for two reasons.
1. Stability. They claim Windows is not stable enough and Linux/Solaris being to complicated. They say OS X is Unixbased but faster and easy to use. Unix also uses alot of special commands and settings that makes programming more flexible.
2. The ability to run more than one OS on a single computer for testing.

I see the main web page is back but still no sign of the forum. Can anyone from MR give me any idea when the forum is likely to be back? |

that must surely be a good sign then. there have been times in the past when the main page and the reviews are available but not the forum due to a technicality with the server.
it may possibly mean that the DDoS attack has stopped.

Sindre Lia from InfoSyncWorld wrote down his thoughts about the mobile-review (MR) attack and I agree about what he wrote. Let me first say that I do not support such activities. After all, we are just talking about a mobile phone review here! In my opinion, MR is playing on both sides. MR is paying off (in one way or another) insiders in Nokia, SE or most likely one if the Telco operator company to get their hands on pre-production units. Why else would someone risk their job to do this? This activity is being done without the acceptance of the manufactures and/or employer. My guess is that the site owner would have been contacted by an attorney if it was located outside of Russia. In the US for example.
I know for a fact that Sony Ericsson don't like the way someone constantly leak these pre-production units to MR. We are not talking about a blurry photo once in a while, but a working sample of the pre-production unit. The reason why no one are handed a pre-unit is of course that it is not finished product and is having faults which will be fixed before the official product launch. If MR wants everyone else to behave by the rules, they should of course act accordingly.
Esato did receive a warning about someone trying to "take Esato" in approximately 50 hours 2 days before MR started to having trouble. The warning did not mention Apple or any other brand fan, but it did give out the people behind the upcoming attack. Luckily they didn’t fulfil anything here.
Infosynworld snip:
After receiving an anonymous message claiming that Apple fans are behind a DDoS attack that has forced Mobile-Review to temporarily shut down their service, Mobile-Review offers $10.000 USD to any individual or group of individuals who can provide documented information on the mastermind of the attack.
Served from a Russian internet web host, Mobile-Review has grown into a large mobile phone community, where insiders in the Russian mobile industry leak classified information and pre-production units of GSM handsets to the Mobile-Review team. As these GSM handsets are typically the same ones that are launched in the rest of the world, needless to say, any mobile manufacturer would have shut down this web site if they had the opportunity.
Ironically, the one handset that Mobile-Review probably didn't dissect before its launch - Apple's iPhone - is now claimed to be the reason why the site is not currently available. In a statement, Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-Review suspects that his negative press about Apple's iPhone, has led to a DDoS attack involving several tens of thousands of compromised computers across the globe.
Pretty much every website on the Internet is once in a while experiencing mild DDoS attacks from script kiddies, but the extent of the attack at Mobile-Review, tells us that the site's Russian origin is more likely to be the reason for the attack, rather than negative press about Apple's iPhone.
Only time will tell what happens to Mobile-Review in the future, but most likely the TBGR-like service will re-appear soon

I really doubt any civilised company is behind this, becaue that would damage the image of the company if it was discoverd.
and as you say, Esato was threatened, SE-nse was also attacked, so I think it's nothing that had to do with MR handling preproduction units, and as you may already know, sometimes a mobile company intentionally leaks some info (like what happened with the N81 and N82) to investigate the different opinions about it, or to make a big fuss over the announcement.

Yes I agree somewhat but a 'non-intentional' leak by a company can be very damaging which is why staff have to sign confidentiality agreements, as you may already know.
Intentional leaks do appear from time to time but if it is intentional it still is legal as far as the company is concerned and comes under the umbrella of marketing by stealth' and I suppose and is within the remit of company policy.
Companies releasing products to counteract each other is a game of cat & mouse with exact dates calculated to have the maximum effect, publicity wise etc. So it is not out of the question for an OEM to be implicated in the attacks - it must pee them off somewhat so see a planned announcement watered down because of an ill-intentioned leak.
Anyway, I'm glad MR is back I suppose all this will eventually come out in the wash.

just like you, I always thought unintentional leaks damage companies because the info will reach competitors, but not after I read what Eldar (a one who's in the know) said here: (scroll down to see his comment)
http://www.intomobile.com/200[....]-down-his-images.html#comments
from Eldar's half-English words, you can also see how problematic he've been to mobile companies, not because he "leaks", but because he publish leaked photos from the internet in the news section, just like most mobile related sites do including esato.
and imho, an announcement can never be watered down by any leak whatsoever, how much people do you think see or even care to follow rumors? few hundereds scattered around the world, and the rest don't even know about the phone even after it's announced, untill it's available in the market.

Great to see MR back in action. But it was offline for a while earlier, but it's back again. Hopefully they've been able to stop the culprits.

Hi all,
Well i still can't get it to open getting really annoyed now this has been going on for ages that must of been one seriously large attack and allegedly all over criticism of the iPhone unbelievable really. Just what is this world coming to when criticism leads to this. They don't have to agree and would of been better served debating the points and giving their opinion this just makes them look desperate and IMO pathetic and they really can't be that stupid as to of been able to launch this attack what a waste of brian power and time.

funny, in the London Lite yesterday, one of the most read free papers in the UK, it was saying how you dont need to wait for the iphone to get a decent music playing phone. i cant remember what the headline was, but i wonder if there website will get DDOS'd???
