I'm sending my second one back today, keys 7 and 3 cracked yesterday. Didn't know about the wk27 thing until I already ordered it
I must say it's a great device and I will deffinitly keep trying to get one without the defect.

Hello.I am from Greece. I do have the s500 and I do have the same problem. All the keys are broken in the center.
What did you do ? You take it to the service ? Did they fixed it?
I think I will take it tomorrow to the service. |

It's official now. Sony Ericsson said that the green paint goes into reaction with the plastic (an unexpected reaction) and weakens it. That's why you don't see yellow S500 phones with this problem, cause the yellow paint is made of a different chemical. They also said that the phones which are released after the 27. week will no longer have this problem, and older phone owners who have this problem will have their handsets fixed by SE.
I found this on a hungarian portal: http://www.mobilport.hu/?r=10469
Can anybody give me a link from the Sony that says about this problem ?
An official post of Sony.

I sent mine back to the place of purchase, they have a 15day return for defect.
I've heard that sometimes SE denies the problem and then you get someone else on the phone and they know about it, guess you just have to be presistent and get the right person. |

BUT now The Yellow one also has cases of borken keypad, so the explaination of "paint goes into reaction with the plastic" is not the true story?

I don't really know what went wrong with this phone. SE surely knows how to make durable keypads, so it's surprising that this phone seems so poor build quality wise. There must be something wrong with the materials.

have just been reading about this on a mobile phone blog and the guy on there said "I hope this problem doesn't show itself with the W580i", of course both phones have similar style keypads.
