For all P990i users now, what can you say about the phone? |

@Osmano
I tried with a 150 MB full length movie (coded for my W900i), and the P990 wouldn't accept it. Crashed, and had to be restarted. It did not run the movie - which runs very smoothly on the W900i. The W900i has of course different graphics hardware, but the movie is coded in a way that I thought would work on the P990 too. I'll have to check some specifications to find out what can be wrong. And update my P990. |

when you mention "coded for" What do you mean by that? I use standard mp4 files which I can play on the Quickplayer. |

Got my P990i today
Charged it, played around with it for a little while and sent my first SMS... and the phone turned itself off - for no reason. After a while it lightened up again and told me it had decided to take a break to optimize itself. Yeah right, sending an SMS can really be a tough job, even for a smartphone! And the message was more than 160 characters too! I should have known... Anyway, I've got to check what SEUS can do for me. My P990 has firmware R4-something. As I said, the average office user would already be on his way to the service center, filled with anger and regret. Pushing this kind of crap to the market is going to hurt SE's reputation in the long run.

PMSL really u think so??, hmmm seems like then your a pretty good mind reader by the looks of it .
Anyways update the firmware on the phone, its the first thing you should do anyways. As for your messaging crash??, well i had the phone a few days before they released the new firmware and i could send texts which were very long quite easily. Probably crashed because you had other apps running which took up most of the memory available.
The new firmware rectifies that somewhat, mem management is slightly improved. |

Just my two cents, someone is not telling some facts right here and is a shame...
No hard feelings! He who knows... he knows!!!

Do you think the RAM problem can be fixed by firmware upgrade or by hardware?? |

What stereo bt headset are you using?
I know that sound quality is pretty subjective but im using a HBH-DS970 with my p990i and the sound quality is excellent. Bass is present and channel separation is acceptable. My only complaint is that i wish it could be louder (although its not that soft really).
I was just using a W810i a while back and all i can say is that i dont miss my walkman phone.

Using the same one as yourself. Yes, agreed it's pretty subjective. I would say the the K800 is the best with using HBH-DS970. I'm not saying that it's bad, all I'm saying is that it's the worst out of the 3 IMO. |

I think my-symbian review conclusions say all:
Quote:
| . Summary
The P990i is a powerful, modern, feature rich and very good looking device. The most important advantages compared with the P910i are first of all UMTS, WLAN, high quality 2 MPix camera, faster processor and fully functional flip closed mode supporting third party applications. The only serious disadvantages are limited free operating (RAM) memory (which can be 'fixed' in a large degree by improving the memory management) and lack of EDGE support. Other issues described in the review are software-based and as such can be removed in future firmware updates. Sony Ericsson has proved several times with previous models that they take good care about such software bugs and all previous P-series phones ended up with fully stable and functional firmwares. I rest assured that it'll also be the case with the P990i.
What I like:
UMTS
WLAN
faster processor with hardware graphics accelleration
high quality 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus
fully functional flip closed mode supporting 3rd party applications
UIQ 3: intuitive and good looking
Opera 8.60 browser with landscape mode
predictive text input supporting two languages at the same time
hardware keypad
5-way controller in FC mode: good for games and for one-hand navigation
high quality screen
lock button
A2DP support
USB 2.0 with
good standby time (at least with BST-34)
support for large memory cards, up to 8 GB
very professional and stylish look, robust feel.
What I don't like:
no EDGE support
only 15,5 MB free RAM available, almost 6 MB less than in P910i
memory management needs to be improved; currently causes stability issues
max audio volume too low (probably because of EU regularions)
several useful applications are not available in Flip closed mode: video player, calculator, RSS feeds reader, web browser
minor stability issues need to be fixed in future firmware releases. |

.... guys, I think so too. You will see in 3 months almost all major bugs will be solved with firmware upgrade and the P990i will be the "King of professional devices"

the TyTN is way better than the HTC Universal, I have both and the P990. The Universal is too slow, confirmed with some performance tests that were done against other WM5 devices. But the screen and the keyboard of the Universal are still the best.

@Jah,
Indeed, I'm keeping the Universal just for the screen and the keyboard, it's on real VGA now and I will be using it for mainly browsing and MSN (Windows Live Messenger), M$ has done a greaj job with the later! And of course the Universal will be handling my work, email and office things.
The P990i, on ther other hand, will be my main phone, as I carry 2 phones with me all the time (business and personal).
I never saw the TyTn in person, but it does look damn good! And bundled with elmost everyting.
BTW Jah, I remember a post of yours like 7 months ago, it was about P990i and Universal as a perfect combination Guess it is not anymore!

Wow you have a good memory
I do follow a 2 device strategy, however. I use a Sony Clie TH55 as my main PDA for complex PIM and managing other business data (with Docs to Go), it has a large high res screen and is very fast (uses real RAM not flash). My P990, like for you perhaps, is really for keeping a copy of everything so that I can check things but I only use it a bit for entering 'new' data. But the predictive text and keyboard of the P990 are so good that I often find myself using my P990 more like a PDA. In the end the P990 and Clie TH55 is a compact and light combination for business use along with my Vaio Ultra light laptop.
