butt ugly phone... k750 looks better 1000000x

ya know I said the same thing about the K750 while I owned a T637... I'm kinda thinking once I get one in my hands (which I will) I'll declare that the K800 design > the K750(which I did for the K750)

And whats all this joystick hate? You guys all have fat fingers? Lay off the fries. I like the joystick, maybe cause I'm a natural gamer.. I dunno its cooler then a standard simple press nav buttons.

Joystick hate stems from the fact they are prone to breaking easily, not that people have fat fingers. A lot of my friends are farmers and builders or keen sports people and the joystick has nearly put them off sony ericsson phones completely. They love everything else except from the bloomin joystick that keeps sticking and makes it a pain in the as* to navigate around the phone. The D-Pad on the w810i is the way forward, unless this new joystick is super strong, and it doesn't allow dust to access the insides of the phone. In my honest opinion, i'm not fussed on the new phone much, its design is very k600 (which i have to admit i wasnt a huge fan of, looks wise) I hope the new phones sony ericsson announce will be so much better than this one. Even the screen quality, why is it still 262k colours, when all other new phones are on about 16m! Sony ericsson get your finger out and don't just rest on mega pixels!

Nice specs and all but dont like the size and the new m2 stick.

BTW, the "leaked" supposedly new UI for Wilma is not real after all. Or maybe its for a different model yet to be released?
Remember the UIQ + Crossbar like interface similar to the PSP, now thats one revolutionary UI for a non-smartphone!

If SE releases an m600 form factor phone w/ camera + UIQ, Ill get that one.

@richard:
"Sony ericsson get your finger out and don't just rest on mega pixels! "

Um most of the posts around lately seem to have been "when are going to make a 3.2mp cam phone since everyone else has one" now they announce one and people still aren't happy? Come on!

On the size of a phone a 16m colour screen is a waste, the quality on them already looks superb. W800 and W900 screens are perfectly crisp and themes looks absolutly brill. (IMO)

@arj:
"It Would Be Crazy To Think SOMEONE MIGHT Use Their Phone For the Camera......AND MUSIC!!! OMG...HAVE SE NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS???!?!? "

Of course they have, which is why down the line you'll see a 3.2 WALKMAN version of this phone. Just like the W800i is a walkman focused version of the K750i. Some people may only be interested in the phone for its camera however, OMG THERE ARE CAMERA ENTHUSIASTS who would have ever thought of that?! It seems to me its pretty obvious they're trying out new things with their camera software and the hardware too hence the cybershot branding.

obviously want to keep the branding fairly seperate, maybe it's something in actually using the brand names themselves. Or part of it could be about not confusing sony's brand names by making them Walkman Cybershots... Who knows. Either way we'll probably see a walkman version of this down the line to cover the music lovers.

@musta:
"None of the phones announced mention what size memory stick is in the package, I wonder why?"

This can vary by market aparently, hence why some countries got W800i's with 1gig, or with remotes etc etc.. Different areas, different packages, wish the W800i in NZ had been 1 gig with one of those lil remotes hehe

@Americans:
Yay another phone for you guys too

It's interesting to see no 850 version of a 3g phone, must be waiting for the US to sort out which frequency their 3g bands will use? It's the only reason I can think of for holding off on more "a" phones

My own opinion, it's a nice phone. I don't mind the stickers on them, never have. Quickshare stickers annoyed people in the beginning, any sticker on them now does too. I don't look at the phone for stickers though. Is it a dissapointing phone? I guess it depends on what you were expecting them to release, for a high speed evolved K750i, i think its VERY nice. I suspect people here will make the most of its camera though and show what its really capable of. (Some of the k750/w800i pics taken by esatoians are simply amazing)

It's got some nice features, and has a flight mode without having to have some other model phones software hijacked onto it which is all good. The real proof is gonna come when people start using them.

As a step forward however its very nice, and allows to build on it, giving a music version down the track and eventually the camera and software ending up in a smart phone. (I doubt this year though, unless its late in the year) As for the video function, I could care less, I don't use it.

Of course in the spirit of failing to put everything wanted into a small device so they don't need to develop any more phones for the rest of the year so that no one here need ask anything of a device again, they failed miserably

I hope you are right about the walkman version! Just with the release of the m600, it seemed they were splitting apart... Hmmm...

Its not that i want the walkman though, i just dnt wna b missing out i spose, wen you know tht the walkman phone wil b the same, but with a few more features, beter media player etc. I hope it is announced at cebit, or something else breathtaking!

I cant believe no one sees the similarity.

ITS SO OBVIOUS.

If it was the other way around youd be pointing it out so blatantly.

i think better video capabilities in a phone will require huge handsets, since they are big in size hardware-wise... for me, i'm satisfied with its 3.2 MP camera...

I see people being grumpy about WALKMAN phones before, saying..."why don't they release the real K750i successor without the wallman branding?" ...Then here it comes..No walkman branding 3.2 megapixels with other very useful features...SE claims that they have improved the joystick and all. So why don't we just get it if we like and afford it, and if you don't like it, don't get. Very simple

For me, I'd rather get th W series counterpart. Almost same camera quality...better media player...better stereo headphones...bigger memory [addsig]

Did I read Mobile-Review.com's article on K800's camera right?

That the image stabilizer works for shooting documents only? (Document shooting mode)

@gigs Well said, no doubt there are those which will be dissapointed, and those overhyped.

For the record, this media player will be a spiting image of the walkman versions, but without the w branding. So rest asure the great walkman media players we see is still in this cybershot/phone.

Like many before me, im not too sure about the lens protector. It looks a tad too big, something which could annoy the hell out of me, during the time its in my pocket. However the 3.2mp would make up for it.

Everyone has to bare in mind that this is not a smartphone, and features will be identical. Its not revolutionising, but effectively has just that little extra to grab my attention. Little bits here and there have been improved in which im delighted with. The new interface looks better then ever.

My only real confusion is the deisgn... also the marketing strategy.

Why duplicate a phone with a few enhancements?

If it was up to me, i would have scrapped the whole k800 and started fresh with the new 'C' series. C for, if you hadn't already guessed; cybershot. The design contains many flaws, but continuing with the 'C' theme, i would have made it look much more like a camera.

This would have been looked upon as revolutionising, aswell spreading their open phone range.

Lets face it, when you think of walkman; it automaticly becomes a competitor with ipod. When you think k750i against ipod, it doesnt quite have the same ring to it. Marketing & strategies, a new C series would have been the next hit.

Its a shame; they've squandered a golden oppertunity in which they could have sealed nokia up for good.

A cybershot vs n80.

*edit*

The memory cards.. m2. This is the one laim idea shattering all connections. Everything has to begin again. If i do get this k800 i will no longer be able to quickly get my card and stick it in a psp. The 1gb limit stands for untill who knows? Next year?
SonyEricsson continue to make us there slaves as we are forced to purchase new devices when our old ones are perfectly fine. This happened with the new port (which is understandable) and is happening again!

So, what's the point? That Nokia copycat SE or what?
I found no similarity between that Nokia and K800/K790 at all.

Very nice phones. It would have been better if they added optical zoom, I don't care if it's a bit thicker.
resistance is futile.
