@ads1107, no you can't listen to the radio since you have to plug the wired headset in before the radio will work and then the wired headset gets priority over the bluetooth one

In fact this is one point that annoys me a little. I'd be happy to have the wired headset plugged in with the phone and wired headset in my pocket, or bag or whatever and somehow still choose which headset gets the sound.

Why are we forced to use the wired headset only for radio!?

When using the headset and you choose a different equalizer setting on the phone e.g. bass or treble boost, does the headset realise this and change it automaticly?

Many thanks for that masseur. l did read somewhere that this didn't work with the headset, but they were obviously wrong! What is stereo widening btw?

the only thing that doesn't currently work between the K800 and DS970 is that the track details are not shown in the headset display (but this works with the M600)

No idea what stereo widening is technically, but I know I don't like the sound when it is turned on!

Which Bluetooth adapters are people using on their PC's for streaming audio to the DS970? I've tried a Belkin and a Zoom Telephonics both Bluetooth 2.0. The Belkin is using Widcomm stack and the Zoom is using Toshiba. I noticed when streaming audio from my PC with either one that the audio degrades over time to the point it's not even worth listening to. Anyone else had this problem? I noticed the Toshiba stack that came with the Zoom is a little out of date. Maybe a newer version would help? The other thing I noticed is that the Microsoft & Widcomm stacks will only make a network connection to my M600 at 768Kbps. But, the Toshiba stack connects at 3.0Gbps as it should. Lastly, I also noticed that the Toshiba stack won't auto connect to my M600 and m-Router doesn't recognize the Toshiba Bluetooth COM ports as being Bluetooth ports.

I got one of these last week and so far I have not experienced that issue of degredation.

I was kind of impressed by the price and the number of profiles supported

Do you know which Bluetooth stack (software) it's using and what version? I know Windows XP SP2 has the Microsoft stack built-in which doesn't support A2DP as far as I know. The only other two stacks I'm aware of are Toshiba and Widcomm which apparently was bought by Broadcom.

DriverVer=07/08/2004,2.0.10

does that mean anything?

edit: oh hang on, that might be the bluesoleil version number.

@masseur

Thanks a lot for the info. Looks like one I haven't heard of. It mentions IVT on the link you posted also. I will have to look into that. Maybe the IVT stack is better than Widcomm or Toshiba? Judging by the name could it be a French company? BTW, Broadcomm makes the Bluetooth chipset although they now own the Widcomm stack, I think they're still calling it Widcomm for now.

Using the BT dongle that came with my Logitech Dinovo Desktop (BT keyboard and mouse), with Widcomm drivers 5.0.1.2500. Seems to be working fine, but I get a lag of about 0.5s for A2DP-audio which makes it hard to watch movies... :/

Longer version, thought I might as well post it all...

My HBH-DS970 just arrived and it was time to put it to the test! Unfortunately my SonyEricsson K800i hasn’t arrived yet, but I have lots of other Bluetooth devices so here goes:

HBH-DS970 and SonyEricsson K750i
The K750i doesn’t support A2DP, so no stereo sound. In fact, there’s no listening to music with the headset at all. The headset functionality works fine though, and the name of the caller is shown in the display of the headset. The manual states that you should be able to press the “Call”-button on the headset twice to redial the last number, but this didn’t work. Incoming calls were correctly transferred to the headset, except sometimes when the phone was connected to my computer with Float’s Mobile Manager (but that might have been FMA’s fault).

HBH-DS970 and Dell PDA (Axim X50v with WM5 and Widcomm drivers)
Next on the list is my PDA, a Dell Axim X50v upgraded with Windows Mobile 5.0. I had already downloaded and installed an upgraded Widcomm Bluetooth stack (1.7.1 build 3400) to replace the crappy Microsoft one. With this stack, the A2DP and Headset profiles worked fine! I was able to use the headset to make calls with Skype, and to listen to music with TCPMP. The remote control buttons on the headset didn’t work (next/previous track), but this wasn’t very surprising.

HBH-DS970 and Dell Laptop (Latitude X1 with Toshiba Bluetooth stack)
I used the Bluetooth stack that was shipped with the laptop almost a year ago. Headset and A2DP both worked without a hitch! Even the remote control features were supported, although they only worked in Windows Media Player.

HBH-DS970 and PC with Widcomm drivers
I’ve got the Logitech Dinovo Media Desktop Laser, which comes with a Bluetooth dongle and Widcomm drivers. Logitech updated their drivers recently, and the latest version is 5.0.1.2500. The headset was discovered and in both A2DP and Headset mode, and installed correctly, but now the problems started… A2DP worked fine, but when I connected it in Headset mode, the outgoing audio was horrible! (I.e. people I talked to on Skype couldn’t hear what I said.) Also, the Logitech Bluetooth mouse started moving erratically, sometimes lagging up to one second. What the..!? Tried restarting my computer, but then the A2DP profile stopped working too (or rather; it made the mouse stop working when used). Tried an old Bluetooth Headset, but with the same result. OK, so it was obviously not the headset’s fault. Finally I unplugged the Bluetooth dongle and then plugged it in again. And, voila! A2DP and Headset worked perfectly, and no mouse lag! Well, that was easy…!? Still no remote control features, but I never expected that anyway…

During these tests, I discovered two big problems with the headset:

The manual states that the headset can be connected to (or rather, paired with) ~10 devices at the same time. While this is strictly true, it’s important to note that it can only be paired as a Headset (ie with the Headset profile) to ONE device! Meaning that if you’re using the headset to make phone calls with your mobile phone, and would like to use it to make a quick Skype call with your computer, you must go through the whole pairing process with your computer again (shut down headset, put in ‘discoverable’-mode, discover it on the computer, enter PIN-code, etc.)! And when it’s time to switch back to the phone, do have to do it yet again! While certainly annoying (I’m going to be doing a lot of this), I guess it’s something I can live with.
Just to clarify, the headset WILL remember multiple pairings in A2DP-mode, meaning that if you want to use it to listen to music from your computer, you only have to open Bluetooth Manager, select the headset, and click Connect.

The second problem is that there is a delay of about 0.5s when playing A2DP-audio. No big deal with music, but try using the headset when you watch a movie… *sigh*

Overall though, I’m pretty happy with the headset. The sound quality is pretty good as far as I can tell, the construction feels solid, the earphones are good, and it could actually connect to all my devices (to tell you the truth, I expected more problems with the Bluetooth drivers and profiles). No comment about battery life yet, as I’ve only had it for 24 hours.

Hi,

Anybody having trouble with battery life?

I use it to listen to music - and i only get about 2.5-3 hours worth!
(instead of the advertised 6 hours)

I am hoping this is because its a new headset and needs to be charged / discharged fully a few times......i am now going into my 3rd cycle of full charging and i hope i get more juice this time.

anybody with similar experiences?

@storyweaver

with my first heaset even after the third charge I only managed 3hrs and 15 mins. Returned them and with the new headset after the first charge have already managed over 4 hours of use (split over 4 sessions of listening and using the headset for calls). I assume I will get nearly 5 hrs after a few more charges.
