I just bought an Sandisk M2 for my K800, 512 MB size, and after i make an format card i see that my size on card is 467 MB, not 512 MB or something closer. Is that normal ? I know that he (card) need some space for the menu application, but i think that difference is to much. Any opinions ?
Thanks ! |

i read the entire page but i cant find answers to my question..
guys what are the possible causes of memory sticks going bad aside from formatting it in fat32? i tried formatting a fairly new 128mb duo stick for my p800 back then and had the stick gone kaput. i know defragmenting a stick on windows will cause the same problem because that's what i did on my 16MB stick that came with my p800. does saving and deleting files on the stick cause the stick to go bad? because i have 2gb stick, saving movies on it and deleting it once i watched it and save another one over and over again..will it cause the stick to deteriorate? also, after deleting a fairly big file on the stick, will it defragment itself or are there some other techniques on how to do it?

The only brands for Memory Stick are Sony and SanDisk.
If you find a Kingston or Transcend - be careful they are counterfeits.

Like I said, the rest are counterfeits.

I'm a bit puzzled. how are the lexar ones counterfeit? perhaps your usage is different to mine as I understand counterfeit to be something made to deceive others into thinking it is something it is not, usually for profit
Lexar have have been licenced since 2000 to produce memory sticks and indeed Sony invested quite a bit in Lexar to help them when that licence started.
Licencing involves stringent requirements and lexar put their brand name on their products so they are not trying to make people think they are Sony or Sandisk

@many people - I don't think that you will SEE any MSDs donning the Kingston or Transcend brands Even at my end (Asia) where there are lots of counterfeits, I can ONLY see Sonys (imitated too) and Sandisks . . .

@masseur - I think LEXAR is an inferior-quality-brand of memory card Like those of: PQI and TwinMos for MMC-cards But to my surprise, I remember already seein' this brand years back Looks like they are not doin' BAD in the market after all
