Okay, perhaps someone can answer MY problem:
My digital box is on the blink, the picture is ok but the sound is all crackly, in fact its worse i just get that "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" noise. Ive waggled wires, thumped it, done everything but....

is there some sort of magnetic interference close to the speaker? this might cause the noise to be messed up.
else,check the incoming audio transmission...
could be some connection problem as blackspot said.

@meths try your digibox on your folks TV - it could be the signal strength is not enough from your ariel. You may need a booster (fit as close to the ariel as possible) or a bigger ariel.
