So you mean all the people who saw the Z1 in stores with their own eyes are lying ?
Lying is such a harsh word. Let's just say that I want to find someone who can give a completely impartial review of the screen and don't know that I've found that person yet. Bonovox seems the closest (he hasn't pulled punches on the Z1's faults, but has also commended the screen on its qualities), so I'd like to hear a more in-depth review of the screen from someone who isn't being paid to say things and doesn't have all his/her eggs in the Sony/Samsung/HTC basket.
I think that weird sounding British/Irish/Scottish guy in the previously linked video came the closest to accurately describing what I've personally seen from different sites (that being a great screen, not as good as the HTC One, and still with some contrast/angle problems when compared to other phones). The nice part about that review was that he didn't qualify most of his descriptions with "viewing angles are the most important thing, therefore Z1 is garbage", or conversely "Z1 has triluminos tech, therefore it's the best", so I'd like to hear more objective reviews like that.
I'm probably going to have to add something to my signature like
"DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A TROLL AND DESPITE WHAT I SAY IN DISCUSSIONS, I STILL PLAN ON GETTING THE Z1.
TO THE FANBOYS: SONY IS AWESOME AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
TO THE SONY HATERS: I HATE SONY AND ALL THAT THEY STAND FOR, SAMSUNG IS AWESOME" |

@miromiromi -- when a screen is so bright (clearly Z1 is brighter than GS4), the camera taking the photo is unable to distinguish the details in the brightness. As great as digital cameras are, they don't come close to the human eye. Give it a try with whatever you have or can get your hands on that has a "great" display in your opinion. Turn it up really bright and then place it next to another phone that's half the brightness and take a photo so that both are in focus. I guarantee the brighter one will look more washed out, when in reality, with your own eyes, it looks perfectly fine.
i think everyone truly is bored. let's just wait another week or two until many more retail units have been circulated to users and reviewers alike, and see what the general consensus is. this thread is starting to become a broken record
now if anybody has insider information on when sony is gonna make C6906 available, i'm all ears!

@moogoo
I believe C6906 is on pre-order already, but at a hefty price. maybe $890? can't remember exactly. I remember one site had it for less than $800, but don't remember where I saw that. |

@supercoolman .. it was listed but it was one of those sketchy sites that post inaccurate information and outrageous prices, hoping to catch some uninformed consumer. i'm definitely not going by that site

And a night video

What do you guys think of the night video ? Seems a lil soft to me |

yea night video is a bit soft..
camera was probably having trouble focusing with all the moving objects coming at it and also all the changes in metering from the advertisements to the headlines to the dark areas.. definitely a GOOD test for Z1's night video capability. I'd like to see that scene with One/1020/GS4 to see how it compares.
EDIT:
here's HTC one in a similar scene for comparison. it's about the same, if not worse.

and for kicks, here's 1020 in a night video in good ole NYC this was taken while moving, so take that into consideration. but image quality seems comparable to me..

with these as comparisons.. Z1 night time video looks pretty good

Yeah indeed moogoo. The One and 1020 shots do seem about the same so Z1 is definitely not worse But frankly, I was comparing Z1 to Sony Cybershot digicams which do a better job. Since the sensor size and optics are similar, I expected Z1 to perform as good.

ah. well, that scene seems to be very difficult for any compact camera to meter and focus well and quickly.
been forever since i've seen a cybershot compact camera video sample..
and here's your cybershot digicam night video comparison for fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr6IkmKS2yQ
the cybershot hx1.. has 1/2.4" sensor and sony G lens.
have to realize that the hx1 has a MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger lens in comparison. and obviously is thicker and is a dedicated camera. for a phone, i think Z1 comes pretty damn close!

moogoo, that's a 3 year old camera
Here's a more apt comparison. HX30V with same sensor size

Much more worrysome than the screen (Am I getting old, I even like the Z´s screen!) is the purportedly lousy battery life! What got my hopes high was the spread rumor that it would have a renewed battery technique, now the reviews I read (linked here in the last two pages), complain about battery???? |
