Official site states 1Ghz Qualcomm dual processor.
Found whitepaper, says 8500

Must be some contradictions then!!~~
Anyway, here is attached performance of U8500 processor. I hope to see benchmark scores soon!~

NenaMark2 results:
Xperia P

Xperia S

There`s no huge difference at all I think. |

The Xperia P has a 4" display of qHD (540 x 960) resolution, which features the so called "White Magic" technology for superior sunlight legibility. It has an 8 MP camera with 1080p video recording and a dual-core NovaThor U8500 processor. It's an aluminum unibody device.
The Xperia P will come in brushed aluminum finishes in three versions. It also has NFC connectivity compatible with the Xperia smart tags.
The Sony Xperia U has a 3.5" 480 x 854 Reality display, Sony's xLOUD technology, a 5 MP camera with 720p video recording, dual-core 1 GHz processor.

Aluminium scratches very easily. So warning for those who intend to buy the P get prepared well ^^ |

I'm not seeing a card slot on the Xperia U. Only saw "Internal storage 4 GB" in this document:

Wot you cant sell a phone with 4gig storage!? U gotta have a memory card. 16gb is enough imo
Whitepaper says 2gb system storage, 2gb phone memory, and 4gb storage, so thats 8gb total?

Correct. But it may be configured is such way that you can use only 6 of the total 8 GB. |

I think they make a huge mistake with the uniform design of their phones for 2012. In 2011 the specifications was nearly the same, almost all the phones gave the same user experience, the screen size, camera resolution and battery capacity, or the qwerty keyboards were the diferrences. But, I think in 2011 most of the users made their purchasing decisions based on the phones design, not on the slightly different specifications.
In this year the decision of buying a Sony phone won't be a decisive question, but a yes/no question. I think Sony just don't takes in consideration that people can say no for their phones. The desing can be called distinctive but it can be called boring too, and I think compared to the last 10 years' SE phones it is the latter.
No microSD slot??? I suspect that's a stupid decision again by Sony. This solutions is more elegant than pushing again their own memory cards... I wouldn't be surprised if the new Sony phones would use again Sony's own cards...
If these new phones make most of you happy, than be happy with them.
I'm not disappointed, because I haven't even expected much more from Sony. I know that -for example- the Xperia S and possibly even the P and U were developed by Sony Ericsson, but I think Sony gave the directions for these phones, and for now I don't like these directions.
I'll buy an Xperia Ray or Live with Walkman, one of the last phones with Sony ERICSSON label, and I'll wait and see what happens. I had only Ericsson or Sony Ericsson phones, but in the present I'm not convinced if I'll buy Sony smartphones too... |
