borgyt, nah... I got tired of the W960 already... there is no significant improvement over the P1i. I wanted to choose between the P1i and the W960... I'm not fond of lateral "upgrades".
Besides, I think the P5i will come out sooner than the W960i... hahahahaha

Agh! If its out in January SE might as well forget about making a nice profit off the W960, Announced 6MONTHS AGO AND STILL NOT OUT AND MAY ONLY COME IN JANUARY!? Isn't this whole scenario kind of like P990 one?

Don;t know how many UK posters saw The Gadget Show of Ch 5 last night but they reviewed the W960 v the iPhone and the Nokia N91.
The page where you can find out what happened.
Edit: Actually it doesn't say much about the programme at all, but maybe you can get it from youtube on your iPhone. What?
Interestingly, the W960 had the best music quality of the three when played through a set of studio monitors, but it was a disaster using the wifi to download a music track (mainly because the number of tracks available from the SE store was so limited and also because the wifi just didn't want to connect.
Interesting review, anyway. I don't do the downloady stuff so I'm hanging on for January regardless.

You haven't seen Walkman 3? Wow.. what are you doing here?
NO media interface can be compared to the Walkam Touch. It's gorgeous. And although comparable, the regular Media interface (and Walkman 3) still IS better than any other interface. Yes, even that fancy Samsung semi-circle one.

Walkman 3 is fancier and very pretty looking no doubt, but what goods a UI when it doesnt have the hardware to back it up?

Really does it all of a sudden miraculously have a DSP chip then ? or a more powerful processor so you can Multi task with your smart phone? oh yeah silly me it has Mega bass and looks pretty shame neither of those actually do much for sound quality then isn't it.
They reckon it will have a Sim Free of 440 now that's a lot of money for a lot of old tech IMO.

The DSP chip doesn't do too much for the audio. It's like having a sound card for your computer. Utterly useless unless you have a 7.1 surround sound setup, as the processor can handle simple stereo sound reproduction by itself easily. (a sound card wouldn't enhance the quality of the sound output)
Same thing with cell phones. The cell phone's processor is either powerful enough to decode a song or it isn't, there is no middle point. The sound quality depends on the Kb/s of the song. It's like opening a JPEG. A processor can either open it slowlier or faster, but not prettier.
So if a phone's processor wasn't fast enough, the sound would simply be choppy or 80's radio-like.
Period.

let me just put this out there, but realistically how many other phones out there are that much better than the w960i? The nokia n81 got mixed reviews at best, and thier were complaints of flimsy build quality. The nokia n95 8gb got better reviews than the n95, however the battery life is still nothing to applaud. What im getting at is this yes the w960i has its faults, yes it recycled technology. However se was at the top of its game when it designed the walkman brand and even after recycling the tech for the 960i it still manages to be a pretty impressive music phone and video player. With a 3.2 mp camera it still manages to beat most other phones with the exception of what maybe 6 phones, green tint and all(im hoping that this will not be a problem after the delay). I dont think that it should have as hefty a price tag as maybe the the n95 8gb but only to stay competitive, and lets face it if you wait a month or 2 the price will drop. Most people no matter how superior they think there hearing to be would not be able to pick up the subtle nuances of a great sounding mp3 player. My P1i still manages to impress a great number of people with its sound and video capabilities. All this to say that imho i still think that the w960i still falls in the top 10-15% of cel phones out there at the moment. The rest just falls down to bragging rights. |

I think it's fair to say we're at a crossroads. Either buy into todays offerings, or wait for the 'p5' architecture. SE of today, it seems to me, is not about innovation. It is about gaining market share by putting out as many essentially identical phone models as possible, only differentiated by marketing efforts. There is little room, in this mindset, to be something more than a follower, releasing equivalents a year after the leader. |

I really don't what deficiencies you think the N95 8GB has battery wise but due to being both 25% bigger and having Demand Paging it lasts 50% longer than the original.
It is also currently one of the most advanced and powerful Symbian smart phones with the most powerful processor chip and demand paging and i seriously doubt the W960 is going to have better battery life and the N95 8gb has much better spec's than the W960.
Please stop inventing problems where they quite simply don't exist and become at least a little bit more realistic instead of blindly believing just because it's SE it will be brilliant lets wait and see just how bug free and how long the battery lasts before you claim it will last longer as currently you are just guessing.
Even the original N95 now has Demand paging and an extra 50% free Ram and it's battery life will also improve by approx 25%.
Edited to remove this line " all of which are better than the W960 spec's" from the N95 original as should it where it is now after the N95 8GB, I made a mistake and it is now corrected after all I'm only Human and do make mistakes.

another example of seriousness...the last time i checked the W960 has 128MB of RAM, and about 70mb after boot. Also last time i checked, the original N95 has now about 30mb RAM after boot (and 64mb total)
so, ALL of which are better than w960 specs???? like i said...this is just an example of how the best debating skills work

Just Curious Dogmann but u complain about SE Fanboys but damn... U sound like a n95 Fanboy to the core!
If SE could jam a complete Stationary comp into a pocket size i bet N95 would still win cuz it was "Smaller" or something LOL! |
