Actually Dubai was the first place (or at least one of the first) the P800 was released and I'm talking about a proper consumer sales package not pre-release. So I don't think it's out of the realms of possibility that the P990 will come out there first. Whether it's at airport duty free or one of the phone retailers in the city is of little consequence........

Well, like i said, its only me being sceptical.
Ive no idea where the P800 was released first, but may i ask (not that i dont believe you, or want to prove you wrong), have you any proof that the P800 was released there ?
So that we can understand the possibility that the P990i might appear there first.. ?

Nothing wrong with a healthy dose of scepticism etaab. The only proof I have is that I bought it there, to my knowledge it wasn't available anywhere else and believe me after many months of waiting for that phone to come out I had looked everywhere. If memory serves it was at least a couple of months if not longer before it was available in the UK. Of course I don't know if this will happen with the P990 but if I were a betting man I think we'll see a repeat performance. I'll be speaking to people in Dubai over the coming weeks and will of course pass on any information.
I noticed Expansys have lowered their price and are now quoting July as the release date. Vodafone also quoted June/July today.
Really looking forward to the release wherever it happens to be but I'd rather we had a stable device, not perfect but stable, than SE rush to get it out a month early........

This is actually true. the p800 was released in four countries in dec.2002 and UAE was one of them; besides i was one of those lucky b@st@rds to get one before anyone else; being released worldwide(see my first few posts).
Sad to say, its nowhere in UAEs shores, i've friends at official retail stores here and they themselves have no actual idea when it is to be released. I trust them since they've always been accurate with launch dates since they have seminars regarding new phones a week before its official launch in the country. Got to hold a W810 even before it was distributed here. So im pretty sure that its nowhere near...keep you guys updated |

If it did recieve an early release in a certain country...say 3months ahead of another country would the earlier version be of worse quality in any way? Or would it be exactly the same phone just released at different times? |

I'd guess the quality of the handset would be slightly poorer than handsets released later.
Its the same with my K750i, the joystick is noticably softer than new K750i phones and the casing creaks more. Its not that mine has had excessive use thats caused it to be like that, it was like it from day one. New phones have much more responsive joysticks.
I'd guess the same with happen with the P990i. As for it being released first in UAE, its possible sure but usually the first people on Esato to get their hands on new SE handsets are those in Sweden, Norway or eastern european countries.

Well from what i've read in earlier posts you're right about the eastern countries, but i shall know if i'm getting a p990i in about 5 days so i guess we'll have to wait till then. But what do you reckon would be different on an earlier p990? |

Not sure. It might be that in 6 months after the phones release, SE will add a stronger jogdial, or possibly stronger keys / flip / lens cover.

It might be that after they release the P990 they suddenly go mad and bring out several handsets not long after like a P1000! To fix all the problems they may discover once the 990 is in the hands of users worldwide !! |

Well, as of right now im considering buying a N80 instead, and a K800i to accompany it.
The P990i just seems so far off even though im not too eager to get my hands on it atm, and today i was playing around with a friends K-Jam and was impressed by it over my old XDA2.

Absolutely, I'd love to see a P1000 perhaps based on the P990 but with GPS built in, a minimum of 3mp camera. The 910 came out fairly soon after the 900, and it's been such a long wait. By the time the 990 is released mainstream, technology will have moved on further. Phones have already broken the 3mp cam barrier etc, and by July you can guarantee Nokia/Samsung et al will have announced new stunning Q4 phones. |

You can certainly get phones "early" in the middle east, the W900 for instance was there first, thats how I got mine. My dad is going to Dubai on the 1st of May, so if the P990 is there he will most likely buy a few.
