@xperiajunkie right.. and that news was about 30 pages ago. and that post clearly states they only speculate it uses the neonode tech.. not that it definitely does.
like i said above, based on my understanding of optical touch screens, a border is required to shoot the IR light over the screen creating a light field, which when disrupted, allows a camera to detect the disruption. since it's not based on capacitive tech or pressure, touch can be detected with almost any device. if they use neonode, then great. i just hope they figured out how to do it without having a raised border/bezel around the screen.

@Moogoo fair enough but it at least sounds like their tech be used in the Togari and with Sony being in a partnership with them for sometime and the fact they are implementing their tech into android this year I suppose I should of said it is an educated guess my bad

A Sony Phablet?! Disgustingly SICK!!!
Ok but what uniqueness to the phablet or smartphone market will Sony bring?! That would be the key vs just the hardware specs alone considering the N.American (driven by the USA mainly) market is any indication of success (XZ/XZL as any indication).
I'm very curious ... does anyone feel Sony should be venturing into the phablet market? Area for growth is huge, but the perception of viability is pretty much focused on Samsung alone. Actually are they any real players other than samsung??

Nope, not really other than the "also-ran" products from LG and a few others and by the looks of things, there won't be any real threats either to the Galaxy Note phablets anytime soon, not until maybe Apple comes in or Nokia and MS manage to create some sort of Lumia Phablet heavily focused on MS Office.

Sony isn't big in the USA not because of shortcomings of its 1h flagships, but its prioritising other markets, as they even said.
Impatience, lol. Right now, Samsung don't have any competition in the phablet market, ask here again in just under 2 weeks and I'm certain most will say the Z ultra.
USPs? If the phablet market is currently owned by Samsung, and Sony release a product in it, then automatically a good design and build quality. If it's waterproof, that too (I wonder how long it takes for Samsung to prepare the note 3 active...). And if the multiple input thing is true, then imagine going into a phone shop, seeing a staff member dunk the phablet in water, then taking a pen from you to write on it... Easy sales.
Edit: was wondering how long it took for the Samsung troll who regards Sony as a second tier manufacturer to turn up...
Edit 2: people claim a Sony phablet with 3 USPs is a 'me-too' product when the best example of a 'me-too' product this year is the s4 active...

I wonder if togari will be popular. 6.44" screen (with pretty big bezels) is way too big for a phablet IMO. But I remember I said the same thing about note I |

^^^ Well, I'm seriously consider getting it for actual tablet use. Though the phone function of it would be a nice addition. |

It's been a while since I've posted, but if there's one thing I'm sure of it's that Sony won't be releasing any smartphones with interchangeable lenses any time soon. They're still just the mobile branch, they're not making a NEX with Android and phone functionality. |

Sony Honami has serious competition Lol!!
http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]romo-video-Talk---Zoom_id44014
How is Sony ever going to compete with this brilliant marketing?
I love how they showcase how usefull the zoom is: the lady can take a picture of goods in a market, without having to walk one step forward! What a great feature!
And seriously, "Talk & Zoom" ??!!
I would advise samsung to promote the true use case of a zoom in their catchphrase: "Galaxy zoom - stalk companion"

that is the most awkward commercial i've ever seen. what kind of person walks around town with a smile like that? if i saw her, i would be a little afraid.. ha
s4zoom looks so awkward when used as a phone too.
honami is gonna blowww it away!!!

@Ambroos and @aurelius (hope I wrote right?), since you both seems to have more knowledge related to software, what are chances we could see something for S from 4.2.2 by Sony? Maybe a Alpha or Beta would be really nice... Let the devs do the rest... And seems like Z will also get the new stuff from the new huge software update that is coming (KLP or 4.3) to be ported from say Xperia SP, that I think it should get it, to S, which seems to be the phone with the most similar hadrware from 2013 line...
I don't get people. Never Have, never will. |

Hey, just wanted to stop in again and mention some things:
1) I believe that rumor about Togari and Neonode started with my post a bunch of pages ago which then got picked up by XperiaBlog and then passed around the Web. Like I said at the end of the post, I came to the conclusion that Neonode COULD be employed in the Togari due to the rumored capabilities (being able to use and object and pressure sensitivities). Moogoo's concerns about the bezel height are valid as well, in the most recent demoes of their IR screen technology they do mention that they require a .5mm bezel, however thinking about their technique leads me to believe that this isn't truly necessary. From what I understood of their presentation, the way they sense pressure is by measuring the amount of light that is blocked when the slight force of a stylus, finger, etc touches the screen and blocks the pathway of the light emanating from the diodes along the borders of the screen. I see no reason why future versions of this technology measure the refraction or bending of the light through the plane of glass to determine where pressure/touch is being applied. Long story short, if you measure by the light that passes through the glass, you put the diodes and receptors completely inside the phone instead of slightly on top, aka no bezel. This is just a thought, not sure if it's possible or been attempted yet.
2) I don't think those photos 3 pages back were real. I think the goal of those pictures was to show that it was a real pencil in photo #1, and then have the 2nd photo show ''hey look, the pencil totally works on the screen!!!''
If you look at the side by side shot, however, those hearts look identical. It could be that the person draws impeccably lopsided hearts, but I'm fairly sure that's photoshopped....
Opinions?
