@ Falcon,
I've used Paypal over 100 times during the past 4 or so years, and as regards money transfers, there has never been a hassle.
Paypal is part of eBay.
You create an account, which is linked to your debit or credit card, and from there you can transfer money or immediately pay for things to the millions of other Paypal users.
Basically it's kinda like eBay's online banking, a third party money transferer of sorts. It's damn easy to use too.
If not using eBay with it's step-by-step automatic checkout procedure, ie. you buying privately from a Paypal-registered seller, log in to your Paypal account and it's just a case of getting the other dude's Paypal-registered email address and the amount in whatever currency, check the confirmation step and 'pay' Job done! You will receive verification via email within a minute or so, so will the person you sent the money to. It's that quick.
You will need to check if Paypal supports SA. I'm not sure, but I think brix would know that one.
It is safe and very easy to use, BUT there are things to watch out for...
Paypal's foreign currency conversion isn't 100% on-par with the banks (but I guess they have to make money).
There may be scammers who could ask for "your account needs verification" emails, wanting your name, address, etc...
Never reply or go to any links in a "send us your details" Paypal email.
Always just go to the paypal.com website, login, and check your notification messages there. If it's a real email, it will be on their website too.
Having said all that, I have had no issues with any scammers or hassles with them. You can also email or even phone Paypal themselves if you want to ask them questions directly.
PS: If buying from eBay, a few sellers may only accept 'verified' Paypal account holders. This means that Paypal have verified that you are at the registered address. How they do this is when you click the option to get verified, Paypal will ask for your telephone number online. If you are able to take the call, your phone will ring immediately and an automated number will be given to you to input into a section on your Paypal account online...you thus need to be in front of the PC when you're on the phone.
It will then declare your Paypal status as 'verified'.
Once again, I'm not sure if this step is possible with SA, but it should be easy enough to find out from them.
Remember though that most things on eBay don't require you to be a verified Paypal user, but sellers can easily start being more demanding with all sorts of scams being thought up.
Hope this all helps.
PPS: As regards the pics, thanks...I guess it must look a bit weird when I am trying to take the pics so close up, shoving the cellphone amongst all the flowers to get the composition and focus right!
PPPS: How would you get the phone safely to SA? The seller might post the thing, but UK insured post only covers its transit in the UK. If by courier, this may be quite expensive and you still run the gauntlet of customs charges.
What happens if the thing gets 'lost' in the post? You wouldn't be able to get a refund if the seller has proof from a UK post office that he actually posted it off...
A pity I'm not flying back to SA this year in July, I coulda brought it back for you. I can always keep my ears open to hear if anyone I trust 100% is going back soon, but at the moment there's no one I personally know of that is..

@ Falcon,
No worries, I'll definitely let you know if there's someone that I know that I can fully trust, who is flying back to SA in the near future, and will give you as close to 2 weeks' notice as I can at the time.
My in-laws are coming over in late July and return in late August. They're from CT though. However, I have a very good friend coming over with his wife and kid. They will visit us around the same time and also fly back in August. He stays in Mondeor, which would seem the most logical option at this stage.
Will keep you posted.
As regards Sundays, we usually wake up quite late in the morning, faff around the house and I'll inevitably be watching any MotoGP or World Superbike racing if these are on. Then it's usually a lunch of braai left-overs from our usual Saturday night braaing here and then it's time to tidy and clean around the house and/or garden, before all the admin for the next week's work.
Oh, and particularly in the Summer, riding the superbike to various scenic routes around the neighbouring countryside. Love it.
So Canada take on England today. Wonder if the minnows of world cricket will strike again...
BTW, a big congrats to the Pom lighty, Lewis Hamilton, who achieved 3rd place at the Australian F1 grand prix, on his debut! Phenomenal!

@falcon786: paypal is probably the safest method to pay for stuff on net. Used it many times 4 stuff from ebay. No problem. If u're getting an item like a p990 i'd be worried about the SA postal service and the customs duty. |

OK, Australia are taking on The Netherlands at the moment. Let's see what world records tumble today...and if Oz are the first to breach the almost unthinkable 500 run landmark.

It certainly was doc. Major upsets yesterday; not even the new comic book hero, the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, was on form:
Taken from the Beeb:
"India's Sachin Tendulkar is set to appear as a superhero in a new range of comic books, animation and games.
The cricketing legend has linked up with Virgin Comics and his character will wear body armour and wield a flaming cricket bat.
Tendulkar holds the records for most Test centuries (35) and one-dayers (41) and most runs in one-dayers (14,783).
Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson said: "Sachin's success is legendary and we are delighted to collaborate with him."
The first Master Blaster comic book is expected to be released in June and proves that Tendulkar's marketing appeal is undiminshed even though he has been an international sportsman since 1989.
He has benefitted from various big money sponsorship contracts over the years for products including luxury cars, tyres, credit cards, motorcycles, Tvs, energy and soft drinks, shoes and biscuits.
And two years ago had a stage musical about him called Main Sachin Tendulkar [Me Sachin Tendulkar].
So what makes someone who stands only 5ft 4ins tall the perfect super hero?
"Sachin's unparallelled skill on the cricket field and his dynamic personality off it make for the raw elements of a great hero that will inspire kids all across the planet, " said Gotham Chopra, the company's chief creative officer.
Super villains, watch out!"
Speaking of comic book characters, it's quite funny that Mr Chopra's first name is 'Gotham'...

@da wanqsta: That surely must be a nickname...can't imagine anyone naming their child "Gotham"/
@dr_thug: I've not been watching too much cricket because the times clash with my social schedule.
BTW, what happened to the guy who offered to sell his kidney to see the Indian team in the Caribbean? Hope he's come down to earth after last night's game

@ da brixsta,
That's really sad news.
I just saw the article on cricinfo too.
I only hope that there's no conspiracy theories that come about as a result of Pakistan's highly unexpected departure from the world cup last night...
RIP, BW. The cricket world will miss you greatly.
