What is the sensor size then?
There is no specification for that, but usually sensor sizes for this kind of devices is somewhere between ~1/3" - 2/3" (0.85-1.70 mm). |

5.18 mm according to the EXIF data from prototype photos so far. Havent seen anything different yet.
5.18 ... is that in millimeters ... as in less than a centimeter?!!!!
seriously?
Focal length is the point where light passing through the lens converges. Roughly the distance from the back lens of your phone to the sensor. When you think that the K850 is 17mm this focal length does not look so small.
No idea how the focal length could affect image quality, I thought the sensor size and its capability in low light dictated image quality.
Hardware wise the camera module should be the same as K810 (except the higher resolution) according to Eldar. So unless SE can squeeze out something better on the software side the pictures will be just larger versions of the 3.2MP ones (which is not bad at all).
AH! Thanks for the explanation. Kinda makes sense now. Focal length will definately affect image quality .... think of how light can be Refracted. If you're under water just by a foot, you'll notice on a very bright sunny day that the light can only go so far down before light is bent. Same idea on a lense which acts like a prism. Light doesn't bend, of course, BUT its 'cross' almost reversing the image, no? I could be totally wrong & really not sure what I'm talking about here, just brainstorming. if the sensor is too far back then the light cannot reach it in low light situations. Just a guess here.

@Prom1
I believe the focal length mainly affects the view angle.

I think it does. I love the feature too. You're never short of music to buy with that feature.

The focal length affects the view angle, here's an excellent article - http://www.photoaxe.com/under[....]ens-focal-length-and-aperture/

so k850 has just the same focal length as with k800/k810. n73 has 5.6mm, k750 4.8mm, w550 has 5.0mm, k550 has 3.8mm.
