hi guys,

I have finally got sick and tired of my K700i, the camera started doing my head in, and the slow menus made me want to just turn the phone off. Also my joystick had become so inactive at points it just wouldn't work. The phone was amazing when I got it, but soon after, say a month, I was beginning to get annoyed with it.

So here I am, I've left my Chrome K700i, and got a brand new, Samsung E720, one of their latest camera phones. It has a (great), megapixel camera, really, such an improvement over the K700i, and 90mb of onboard memory to store vids, mp3's etc. I am really pleased so far, and there is nothing I miss about the K700i!

Some pics to show you!

As you can see, the design is very similar to the E700, except that it is not blue and silver, but gun-metal dark grey, with a slightly darker Silver, and it has camera flashes either side of the Camera!

and it has controls for the mp3 player on the front! You simply turn on the mp3 player by holding down play/pause, and then you can listen through the iPod style whiute headphones supplied with it.

The screen is fabulous, running on 262k colours, and also at a 176x144 res, like the K700i, the screens are the same size, I measured

You also get many more video controls that what you did with the K700i, you get fast forward/backward, play pause, and stereo volume controls, (either side of the screen!)

I am extremely happy with my choice, and I am not dissapointed, I had many other options, such as the SE P910, and Nokia 3230, but i thought I'd try something new, and I am very happy!

I will let you guys know if I find an annoying bug, but with the amount the K700i has, I don't think it'll be worth posting even if I do!

Other Pics:

1.0MP Cam
-----------

Very Nicely Spaced Out Keyboard, allowing very easy typing, (unlike the K7's tightly placed keyboard which began to get on my nerves after a while!)
-----------

Overall the phone feels extremely refined and very solid, with lovely chrom touches on the earpiece, around the screen, though the numbers on the keypad, and around the camer and other places. There are also lovely finishing touches, such as the metal bracket on the handstrap, and the leather making up the rest!

The s/w is really nice to use, and is really simple and nice! The videos are incredible, absolutely amazing! I was so shocked, when I recorded one that the quality was miles ahead of the videos I make in Mpegable to (supposedly be better), when the videos from the cam are so incredible!

I will probably write a review, when I have had the phone for more the a third of a day!

Anything you'd like to know? Just ask!

Charlie -

Here are a few taken in economy mode, but at high res, I will post some in superfine a bit later on!

Unfortuantely the images have been altered by esato, and therefore are a bit pixelated! But they are very good compared to my ridiculous phoos I got with my k700i.

And this one is taken using all of the digital zoom, I think it is 6x magnification!

I think the pictures are good for only a 1 megapixel cam, as apposed to 1.3, and that I am extremely happy with the improvement over the K700i. Especially because the pics here are economy, (lowest quality), and I'm comparing them to highest quality K7 pics at same res!

Chazzer -

Will post some Super Fine tomorrow if I can, but I need a bluetooth comp, and can only get to one occasionally.

wow great

Bad choice mate. Should have good for a d500 if you were lookin at samsungs.

Posted by Chazzer3
Yes well, sorry @govi, but I don't like sliding phones very much, and this has more style for me. Also, I am not a fan of the D500's compressed buttons that are really tight together.

Here is a sample video of my dog, showing the great vid quality. Please get it if you can...

WOW, the video is lightyears ahead of the K700's!

please use http://www.imageshack.us to uppload the pic so we can se them full size !!! the phone seems great

Posted by Chazzer3
I know, I must admit that the video is the best I've ever seen from a mobile device, I've always been disappointed with video quality. I will definitely get either the K750 or W800, and will be really interested in the quality of those!

Yep. as I said, @snowbear, I will have to wait until tomorrow to get anymore images, as I misplaced my BT dongle, and i got those pics on with my friends Laptop, as he was around earlier today.

Will use imageshack as well, cheers for that.

Posted by shyam335
wow , it produce execellent videos, not even d500 matches it,shame that no se can even match it .
btw,do u got zoom in the video,if possible next time plz use zoom in the video.

Posted by Chazzer3
You can zoom in before the video, and then again whilst your zooming in. I'll post one up in a minute.

I will also post some pics of the Screens, E.G. Menus, cam etc...

Here we go, this is a video, which shows me zooming in and out during the video, so you can see, that not only do you get many more zooming stages than that of the K700i, but you also get more zoom, and better quality as well.

Unfortuanately for this video, it is hazey, and misty at my house, and this was taken through my dirty bedroom window, (that reminds me, I need to get ahold of the window cleaner guy, (I've broken my ladder )).

It's nearly my phones first anniversary with me now! 1 day!

oh, and @Govi,

this phone has been rated better than the D500 in many places for many things. Screen, speed, cam, buttons, ease of use. The D500 isn't the best at anything you know, in fact, its not even that Exceptional, just a very good phone, this is an exceptional phone. I have had first hand experience with both, and I prefer this one.

Posted by Ing. FijoK
That video is great!

Posted by Chazzer3
I'm so impressed with the video, it is incredible

It does better video than My Casio Exilim 5 megapixel digicam! It is definitely one of the best things the cam can do!

Posted by JK
the sam e720 is a very basic phone compared to the k700, i admit the cam and vid is poor but have better features than the sam!!

all sam phones have excellent cam quality e600, d410, e700 e720 and the top 1 d500...

if you want just a CAM phone then its good if you want an overall phone def go for SE...

Posted by Chazzer3
Yes, as I stated earlier, this phone has all the features of the K700i, excluding IrDa, but I don't need that, otherwise it can do everything the K700i can do, but with more memory, and a better cam, better screen, Two Screens, better phone call quality, external MP3 player buttons, and much more that I couldn't do with my K700i.

Also, as I stated earlier also, this is just a time filler mobile phone until orange get the K750i, or the W800, then I will be going back the SE, I was just fed up with my K700i, sooooooo slowwww.

As requested a selection of screenshots from around the phone:

Main menu, similar to that of S60 I'm told, (or not???)

The MP3 Player menu showing the equalizer, which bounces along to my pumping tunes!

The Camera Screen, showing the Zoom and Brightness Controls,

The 'Memory Watch!' Screen, other memory which is not shown is split up for e-mail, sms, and mms:

The External MP3 player Screen: Showing the ability to use the external button, again with the Motion equaliser:

The External Camera Screen: Also showing that you can use the MP3 player buttons, which I was not told, for zoom, brightness, and switching between video and photo.

Also showing the Calculator, (much easier to use than the K700i's), and also the Calander, pretty much the same as the K700i's.

Any other screens you'd like to see, just ask!

Nice Phone and Nice Review

Posted by Tha Flipkonijn
I have a few questions for you.

- Has the alarm a snooze function?
- Can you an alarm at an appointment in the calender?
- is their a limit to the appointments per day?
- Can you turn of the sound when taking a picture?
- when you receive a call, do the lights blink, and if so, can you turn it of?
- is their a limit on the mp3 files, for example, if you have an mp3 of 25MB, can you put it on the phone?
- is BT limited to voice, or can you send and receive data from other BT devices?
- is their handsfree?
- hows the batterie?
- can you sync with outlook?
- when the T9 doesnt know a word, do you have to switch to multitap, add the word, and go back to T9, or is it like nokia, you get the option to spell the word en continue in T9?
- can you set the ringtone to vibrate AND ring?
- does the fone feel solid when you open it, or is it like you have to be afraid you will break it?

sorry for all my questions, but i want to be SURE before i buy something. I never used samsung, so i dont know the negative aspects, as well as the positives.

tnx a lot in advance!!

i dont think it has,let chazzer confirm about the memory.

Posted by Chazzer3
To be precise, it has 88.5 meg of memory, which is quite impressive, although now memory,

In answer to some of the questions, will answer them all later:

Yes you can turn off the shutter sound, either via silent, or in an option in the camera menu.

Battery is great, I've been using my phone heavily, as a torch, bluetoothing, loads of calls, etc etc, and hasn't depreciated enough to move the gauge yet!

Yes, you can use the bluetooth as audio, or for files, (bluejacking)

Will answer q's later, too many for this time after a hard days work!

Any other q's, just ask!

oh, one more question, Does it have an active flip??

thanks alot, i hope you reply quickly

Posted by Chazzer3
Yes it does have an active flip, (I don't know what it is, but its mentioned in the manual several times.)

Posted by Ing. FijoK
I think that active flip means: When you open flip you answer a call But if I am not right, please correct me

Posted by Chazzer3
Oh, right, if that is what it is, then it definitely has that!

I'll just let you know, that this phone is going on eBay for around £250, and the D500 around £200.

Also, the RRP for a sim-free one is £289.99, whereas, the D500 is only a bit over £200, this could mean something?

I have personally played with both, and I have to say, I prefer the E720 by a lllllllllllllloooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg way, it has better firmware, and the screen is seriously better quality, and from what I've seen, the cam is just the same, and also it has two photo lights, and the VIDEO, is the BEST I've EVER SEEN. by a lllooonnngg way!

I still cannot get over the video capabilities. Sorry, I will answer your questions later, I'm quite busy today!

Got my e720 yesterday, and i love it,alot better than the D500. Better screen, seems alot faster and stable(my d500 reset it self on numerous occasions) great camera quality(especially videos!)
not quite as much memory as the d500 but still a hefty 90mb.

Love the design and the general feel of the phone.

and one cool thing which i havent seen in any other phone- you can set videos as wallpapers! very cool!

the only thing i can think of that i dont really like about this phone is the way texts and mms's go into the same inbox.but no major issues with this phone.

Posted by p900 lover
im sorry but i just dont agree how it could be better than a D500?
the d500 has a better camera, more momory and even IR if anyone needs it,

@charlie - Nice! But just like what you did with your K7 then, I'll give you a month here to see if you are TOTALLY satisfies with your Samson fone pal As what I've realized in life: We are TRULY never satisfied with what we have . . . . at present! More images please, thanks!

Posted by ghetto_baby
how long is the video length on the e720??

thnx

@chazzer - those last pics you posted are just thumbnails, i think u removed the url's preceding them....

After you upload an image at imageshack, there is a text box with the label "Hotlink for forums (1)" , just copy-paste the text in that text box directly here on Esato

i think these are the pics you intended to post -
