Yamigo - It's a Wireless Village. This is the first web site to demostrate live and for free a OMA IMPS aka Wireless Village implementation.

The service is designed for GPRS phones. Also you need to have a phone with Wireless Village chat client capabilities. Eg SonyEricsson T630, Nokia 5410 (eta Q2 2004) Motorola V600 (eta mid 2004)

Did you/they fix the problems for the T630 yet?

Posted by bogdano
Thanks for your interest,
If you mean the problems WE are refering to in the YamiGo website, then some of them are fixed. You can log in form the phone already. Yet the contact list management is not working fully yet. We are planning a new version for the next week to fix those problems.

Cheers,

Posted by bogdano

Err,
Rumors travel that you can flash a T610 with T630 firmware?!? I am not an expert I can see that there are users connecting thru from T610.
You need to dig some more.

A new improved version of the server software is deployed at www.yamigo.com.

This version improves the handling of the contact lists, maintaining in memory representation of the contacts. This information is persisted during the current session. We dont support yet to persist this information to the database yet. This is going to be provided next if we see that the phones are requiring it. As of the time of this writing I dont know what is the expectation from phones' perspective. The specs are not enforcing the persistance to permanent store.

Presence information update improved. The publishers are now able to make their status available for others and others can subscribe to publisers' info. Yet I cannot tell that is working for my 6820 test phone. What about you SE and Mot guys?

We still have a bit of probelms making Nokia 6820 to poll for the messages. However if the user is performing activity with the phone then the phone polls for data and info is sent to the terminal. We're currently investigating what the problem is.

So, all you yamigo registrants are kindly pleased to restart their engines and get connected. Also please let me know the feedback as soon as you have one.

Hoping to see u there.
Bogdan

Hi there,
After a few good weeks of work a new version is deployed to Yamigo. This version persists the contact information across sessions. This would allow some phones to retain their contact list if users disconnect from the server.

A small handy feature: to increase the readability we are printing a time stamp for the message. For the moment the time shown is GMT + 2h (Helsinki time ))

Please send any feed back about the new behaviour of the system.

Unfortunately we have some weird looking code to handle a problem we suspect exists in the V600 firmware. The reply to GetList-Request from Motorola is hacked not to have empty content as it would normally have in some conditions eg for a new user.
It would be so nice if some guys from Motorola could confirm this bug in the phone. SonyEricsson T630 and Nokia 6820 and 6220 are not having any problems with it.

Cheers,
Bogdan

a friend of mine and i have both the t630 and we installed the yamigo service on our mobiles but even though we can exchange messages my status on his mobile says offline.
what is the problem?

thanx in advance

Posted by bionrg
i don't get it, why are you guys advertising the T610
in the list?
it has no IMPS enabled by default..!
and to suggest that people should checkout and update their firmware to
T630 is not fair, better try as a company to get SE to update T610 firmware with IMPS capabilitie....

most of us have seen the IM command's in the hidden menu's anyway

Ok Stefi. Thanks for the info. You're the first one to confirm that persence infromation is not shown correctly on the SE phone.
It is most likely a problem with our software. We're investigating it. Seems that we're doing smthg wrong coz Nokia phones seem to have the same problem. I hope you mean that you tested it when both you and your friend were online at the same time in Yamigo.

Fair point, bionrg. We dont have any SE testing phones and I was let know just a few weeks ago that some guys are flushing the phones with newer firmware. Defenetly we're not encouraging this kind of behaviour. Yet we cannot be held responsible and the users doing it probably know already that they are going to loose manufacturer warranty for that phone.

Still does not update the status for my pals using SE T630. Have you yamigo-guys found the problem. Please say yes and that you are working on it

Nice job anyway, hang in there!

Posted by bogdano
snottra,
Yes we are working on it. And due to the fact that T630 seems to be the most stable at date (as compared to Nokia 6220 and 6820 or Motorola V600) we finally purchased yesterday a T630 for solving the issue.
You'll notice soon changes. Also we'll post on our website the moment we fix it.
Cheers,
Bogdan
PS: Please consider making a small doantion. The fact the we couldnt buy a SET630 earlier is entirelly due to the fact that we are self funded (funded from our own pockets type of thing)

The chat feature is behind the "My Friends" menu in T630

you can flash t610 to t630. BUT to do this you need also the t630 LCD in your t610 because the t630 firmware won't work on just the t610 with its old LCD.

even with the t630 fw, however, you still won't be able to access my friends feature, for this you need the T630 GDFS file, which as of yet has not been released.

my theory, however, is that since the t630 can work on t630 firmware on the T610 GDFS file, there is no reason for the T610 not to work with its own firmware, but a T630 GDFS loaded onto it. if i ever get a hold of a T630 GDFS, i will try this out with my t610 and see how it reacts to bogdano's service. it would be interesting.

Hi there,
After a few good weeks of silence, we are able to announce a new version deployed at Yamigo.

This new version is reestablishing connection to Yahoo. Yet MSN and AIM are not yet supported but they are coming soon as well.

http://www.yamigo.com/content/view/26/2/

We also announce the publishing of a open Java API for integrating new services at Yamigo.

For more information read this.
http://www.yamigo.com/content/view/27/36/

We still have problems passing presence information to and from the phones. So basically this version is not reducing from the known limitations.

Bogdan

Yamigo Relase 0.5.2 deployed

Wednesday, 02 June 2004

Major breakthru release. This is the first Yamigo version supporting the presence and status update notifications for Nokia phones. After a few months of fighting with this issue we are able to get it out of our way. From now on the users using Nokia 6230 (not tested but most likely Nokia 6820, Nokia 6220, Nokia 6810, Nokia 5140 or Nokia 7200) can chat and receive presence information from other users including updates from external systems (currently only Yahoo is supported). We are aware that things are not yet working perfectly and we ask for some more patience from the Nokia users, however the major chat/presence functionality is there and can be used.

We are able to announce that the connectivity to AIM will be possible starting with the end of this week, latest beginning of the next week.

Cheers,
Bogdan

Yamigo release 0.7 deployed

New features delivered:

Support for MSN connectivity. From now on you can receive messages and status updates from the MSN network. At least for the time being you'll need to manually enter the buddies in you phone. For example: To chat with the MSN Yamigo Support account you need to enter the following WirelessVillage address: wv:yamigosupport@hotmail.com@msn.com where yamigosupport@hotmail.com is the login name at Hotmail. Basically you need to append @msn.com to your full login name at Hotmail (eg: wv:someid@somedomain.com@msn.com).
Access Control Lists. Support for blocking/granting senders. From now on you'll be able to temporarily or permanently prohibit/allow users to send you messages. To find out more about his feature please read your phone documentation.
The "Welcome online" message will be displayed only once after the first successful login from the mobile device.
Yamigo is proud to introduce support for the eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol, XMPP, a standard protocol defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Unlike proprietary messaging protocols such as MSN, Yahoo or OSCAR, XMPP is open and well-supported by a large number of servers http://www.jabber.org/. Yamigo brings this way Jabber/XMPP access to wireless devices, via the operator-sponsored protocol, Wireless Village, highly optimized for mobile networks. If you don't have a Jabber account yet, you can register with many of the Jabber free servers available on the web (http://www.jabber.org/user/publicservers.php). We will be modifying the contact details page for you to be able to enter your Jabber details. Keep on tuned.
Fixes delivered in this release:

Support UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1 Now we can show correctly Scandinavian characters like: ÖÄÅöäå or French: ÈÉ or £ signs. The € sign is not supported.
Presence issues fixed related to interoperability between Motorola and Nokia phones.
SonyEricsson Z1010 workaround (to be removed later).
AIM reverse proxy login fix. Some users were reporting that they cannot login to AIM. This release fixes this.
Yahoo sessions dont timeout anymore. As a result you should be able to stay connected to Yahoo indefinitely
Known limitations/missing features for the reverse proxy function:

Yahoo support for UTF-8
Yahoo support offline messaging (send and receive)
Oscar support for UTF-8
ICQ support for Presence/status notifications
MSN suppoty for UTF-8

I am curious if for you k700i users of this service (yamigo) the polling time is the same: 13 minutes approximatively. If so, does anyone know how to change this to a more "instant" value?

Thanks.

Posted by Jj05
i have been able to login several times using my 7610 and p900..however...the p900 now refuses to login at all, whereas, my 7610 is fine...i know its early days..and im sure everything will be sorted eventually..

Posted by BobaFett
I am on wap, could sy pls post here what should i fill in, domain etc in details? Tia

Posted by Jj05
boba...when you have registered on the http://yamigo.com site, enter your username and password on the site itself...click on your phone (or the nearest one to it, as not all capable phones are listed)...heres the settings ...in case you dont have a pc, you can go through opera and register...

go into presence...and down to settings...then server settings...and put the following...

DEFAULT SERVER : Yamigo PRESENCE LOGIN TYPE : Manual or Automatic CHAT LOGIN TYPE : Manual or on start up just make sure you have an account and it is activated...these settings will also be in your "chat" feature too...hope this helps....

Posted by BobaFett
Have no internet and opera. I am registered. I need these to my account, cos i deleted them: DOMAIN and SERVER. Tia

@bogdano

Are the chat rooms working??? I´ve tryed many times, but i always get an error...when will they work???

And about k700i acess to msn, when will it be functioning properly??

@bobba, here´s the settings:

server: htpp://www.yamigo.com/wv/control

domain: yamigo.com

Posted by BobaFett
Thx @arez, its working now. What chatrooms are i can choose from? What should i write in to the add? I noticed that it disconnects after i logged in and connects gprs if i log out. So i am not constantly online?

Posted by ares
I can´t use the chat rooms feature...i always get an error But when i connect, i´m always online as long as i want, the conexion is stable, at least in the k700i

Posted by BobaFett
It seems that its using gprs only by some actions, im, chat etc if the 2 blue bubbles are in the upper bar, i am not only. Its important for me, cos i have limited gprs amount in a month. Could u send me an im? My username is the same there. Thx.

Posted by ares
I just saw the yamigo site, and you don´t appear as conected...

Posted by BobaFett
I disconnected. So, i log in, gprs and world icon is viewable. Then they disappear, only the balls stay. The icons come back if i log out or send im. Am i meanwhile logged in and connected? Can i get im if the icons arent shown? I wanna avoid useless data transfer.

Posted by ares
You are only online when both the blue globes and the grps globe are on screen...in my k700 they stay always visible till i disconect

Posted by BobaFett
Great. So it shows to the others that i am online. What about messages, do i need to be online?

you use this service on k700i: does it send messages instantly to your phone? or you have to send yourself an IM to receive the others, or just wait 12-13 minutes?

Posted by BobaFett
@arez thx for your help, but i tested it now and takes very much kbs to use it. Almost 30000 kb just to log in. Works great, nice features, but i have only 50 mb in a month and just for im messages it takes too much from my gprs account. Wish i would have more mb, then it would be ok. Thx again for your kindly help and support.

Posted by ares
30.000 kb??? are you sure??? my experience tells me yamigo doesn´t eat much kbs...i spent much more using e-messenger mobile

@valentiner, there were times when i had to send some message to get the ones sent to me, but lately i don´t need to do that...i receives the messages automaticaly

Posted by BobaFett
I tested it, its ca the same every time.

Posted by ares
Er...30.000kb = 30 megabytes...a bit too much don´t you think?? Isn´t it 30.000 bytes??

I can confirm that most of the SonyEricsson's phones are polling every 12 minutes or so. (Unfortunatelly for most of the users this is a loong time). Nokia is polling every 3-4 minutes, Motorola every 30 secs. Also please notices that there is a trade off that one has to make when deciding to pay more for higher poll rate or less for lower poll rate, this in the end affecting the "REAL IM" perception of the service.
We cannot cope with this at server end unfortunatelly.

Cheers,

@bogdano, what about my questions about chat rooms and msn/k700i???

Posted by Valentiner
Arez, your statement contradicts what Bogdano is saying. How can you explain this? Can you please make a test? Login into yahoo messenger with another username / pass which you had already made a contact for your usual yahoo adress, and try giving your mobile account a message from the computer. I am showing an exactly 12 minutes delay. It may be less only if the message happens to be posted exactly before the polling takes place.
