What can you say about this slow yet famous and classic mobile phone?
Calling all T39m experts, lovers and anti-T39m-ers
Posted by judge
I still own a T39 - despite having bought a new phone I couldn't let it go. I'm extremely pleased with its performance both in respect to data transmission (I used it both on CSD/HSCSD and GPRS) and voice, provided the software version is R4A008. And yes, it is classic, but I love its design and it is the last flip phone made by Ericsson. Also, you'll probably be able to purchase it for a very reasonable price.

a classic phone! Powerfully Attractive!

Slow? Far from it! Love its email client. T9 is fast. Bluetooth is perfect. Standby minimum 10 days.

Great phone!
I bought it about 1 year ago.
Since then I've seen T68i, T300 to pass and nothing... I think here in Peru (south america) is a best value purchase. Now I'm just waiting for T610 here: another great phone in my opinion.

As in a review of www.gsmbox.co.uk I must agree the opinion of the reporter: T39 IS THE KING OF THE PHONES! Exellant acoustics! Fine GPRS-data sending and receiving! Autonomy over 700 h and speaking ability even 25 hours. Best BT!

they have said it all, i now also have a bsl-11. will not let this baby go1

I have had the T39m for several years now. I now use the T610 but I can't seem to part with the T39m. It is a classic as far as i am concerned...
Posted by *Jojo*
@exodus - So, the T39/m has already a built-in 'Bluetooth'
Posted by Sammy_boy
A nice phone, classic design, feature-packed for it's time, and spec-wise could still hold it's own today if given a colour screen and camera.

The /// T39m was, and still is, a very good and capable phone with lots of useful and valuable features and functions.
I used to have one a couple of years ago, and I really liked it a lot.
For information about the T39m, take a look at Specifications - T39m - Products - (Sony) Ericsson.

It's still a very good phone. It had everything at that time.

with all seriousness the BEST phone i have ever owned. i was so excited when i got it and it has NEVER let me down, i can't say enough good things about it.
i was a huge idiot to sell it and regret it now more than anything. if you have one, don't let it go! it is a timeless classic. best phone ever made IMO.

A revolutionary handset, as most fones of ///. Great design and amazing features present u logical and easy use. It serves the standard functions of a fone even now a days.
Posted by Matteus
Exactly! After 3 years why to change? I need a small phone with 20/700 hours conversation/autonomy!
Posted by BobaFett
Try the high cap battery on it, the performance is amazing!
Posted by Oco
Would be great to get a high cap battery here in Peru

Do you guys know, where to buy T39 in a good condition?
Posted by Matteus
A week ago I gave my friend a T39. I changed the covers by myself! Easy and cost 50 euros! Also the metallic back was easy to replace! After that like new!
Posted by BobaFett
Thats a good question. There are only used ones ont the market, the hard thing is that under a new cover-what is easier to get as the fone-u never know what condition is the fone itself. The other problem is the battery, even its a new one, it was made min 2 years ago, so the performance is a secret.
Posted by shawnmccall9
no doubt boba, that is the real issue with the T39, especially with the No Network problem many had.
Posted by Sammy_boy
The first thing to look for in a secondhand T39 is that the microphone still works. If you take the phone apart it's usually just a case of reconnecting the connecting wire between the phone's motherboard and the mic in the flip, which is simple but very fiddly.
If you are unsure about doing this, then always make sure the mic's working on any 2nd hand T39 before buying if you can, it's a fairly common fault!

T39 is the best phone ever made. I have the iat-10 and the reception is the best. I have, too, a bhc-10 and the battery times are impresionant.the materials are very durable.Where can i buy original faceplates online? I want to change the look of my t39. Thanks!
Posted by BobaFett
Try to ask it se first, maybe they have some ideas.
Posted by Geezay
IMHO the best phone from SE (T610) is really a T39m with a colour screen,a camera, and polyphonic ringtones. The functions are so similar... I still have mine and I think I will keep the T610 with my T39 when I upgrade... timeless classics they both are!!!
Posted by Ginz
But also the colors were briljant.
Always the basic colors, but with the T39m you've got a specialty. Nice colors, perfect specifications. And yes, the first mobile phone ever with BT
I replace yesterday my front, because I ordered 5 new fronts. Someone intrested? You can make your T39 look like new
Posted by punkserb
actually the t39's big brother, the R520, was the first bluetooth phone ever.

Oké, I'll correct:
The T39m was the first Dutch mobile phone with Bluetooth.
And the first day it came out, I'll said: "Bluetooth is going to be a big technoligy"

After r520 it was a must to put bt in t39. Its a biz fone aswell, i see it as the 'light' edition of r520.

Someone might find that useful?
Posted by Sammy_boy
Mind you, it says 'as new' so probably isn't brand new - seems a bit pricey to me - you can almost get a T610 for that price! Should be closer to £40 imo.

It's not my auction, just found it and posted it because I though some of you might want it?

I owned the T39m for more than 2 years. Its a real value for money phone which had many power features like bluetooth, GPRS, infrared, etc. built into the same package (unlike Nokia). Its battery life was more than a week when new. I really liked the flip which not only prevented me from covering my mouth with my hand when talking in noisy areas but also acted like a key guard. Its small and light body also helped its cause. The only drawback is its small display which is a strain while browsing.
Posted by 701
I agree, the screen is tiny. I used to like it but then when i realized how much time i spend on wap and transferring data, i've chamged my mind. I don't want a tiny screen. If u find a cheap one and u rnt interested in data, it's good value for money.
Posted by Sidd
The small screen may not be a problem if you dont want to browse on the phone. You can always connect the T39 to your laptop/PC using infrared or bluetooth and surf to your wish's content!
Posted by BobaFett
It would look great with a screen like r320. i do prefer big screens, indeed, for wap its not the best.

First it was planned to release T36m (no GPRS). Ericsson also advertised that phone in its website as "coming soon". Then Ericsson decided to put GPRS in it. Also they improved design a little (a bit shorter antenna etc) and named it T39m.
You can still see images images of T36m. Just type "Ericsson T36m" or "T36m" and look from Google. I liked the dark blue version, the yellow one was also quite interesting.

I do like on yellow the black keypad. Weird, why they didnt launch that colour.

Great phone! Just got one for a few bucks, always wanted to own one and works well even with the latest bluetooth headsets. Always found the Scandinavian design classy. Still worth buying today!

I regret a lot selling mine too....I got us$100 for it 1 year ago and paid 200 for a T68. The 68 is nice but the audio was so so much better with the 39. Currently I'm thinking at getting the 630 but I wonder if they improved the speaker or should I say fixed
I would buy a T39 again if I could find one. You can get lots of them on the US ebay for $50 but they have factory refurb motherboards and are assembled by third party factories. I'm not sure if the covers are of quality plastics, like the originals were.
Posted by 701
Now u all got me interested again in this phone!i'll see what i can get on the 2nd hand market but at that time there were some issues with this phone
Posted by BobaFett
Go for it and let yourself amaze of the three stripes! Never forget, its an almost 4 years old fone...
Posted by *Jojo*
I am planning to get myself a 2nd hand one . . . Though I am very cautious that I might just buy a defective one! Also, the price of sellers here at esato is a bit high considering that it's a 'vintage' fone !
Posted by 701
Just get it from an independant market, not Esato. I think i can get 1@100$+anotha 50 euros for face and new battery.
Posted by BobaFett
In hungary u still can get covers, keypads etc but the fone is a real rarity. They are still in use, i see almost every week one. Hard to get bus10 or bus11 for it.
Posted by bokayo
'vintage": can you buy a cheap vintage wine?, a vintage car? that is why so many people with T39m had regrets when they sold it. i will be KEEPING mine. a very classic but classy phone.
Posted by eskay
Its a great phone i had one until the color phones started to flood the market.
Posted by BobaFett
If any of u still have t39, so pls post a pic of it in the /// thread and keep it there for the eternity. Tia
Posted by Matteus
I sent a pic of my T39 with a short antenna! I opened my T68 today and found the antenna, it is a tape and electrode. Why not similar in T39?
Posted by Leks
I´ll get my T39 on Friday or Monday
I think its the best phone ever made!
