Good looking phone but the lack of micr sd card is a big no for me. If I was buying a normal sized phone I would go for Sony or HTC

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Easily the best looking Galaxy to date but as aussieland1 said no Micro SD card slot would be a biggy for me. Expandable memory is so cheap now and I have a 64GB card in my Z3 with only 8GB spare so I'd need the 128GB version going forward but that would come at a big premium. I can get a 128GB SD card for about £55 online which will be a far cheaper option.

Posted by aussieland1
And to add to the above the rrp is not promising at all

http://www.sammobile.com/2015[....]ing-to-start-at-e699-and-e849/

The phone would have to be really good ! Still first signs are that Samsung made good efforts with Touchwiz and hopefully the camera will be quote good. It will be interesting to see the reviews

WOW a grand for the 128GB Edge version, there's steep and then there's bloody vertical.

I am so disappointed. Yes, its a pretty phone, but the battery has been downsized and MicroSD removed. The build materials sound great but they have gone back in terms of no Water or Dust proofing.

I hope the Note 5 doesn't go the same route or I'm done with Samsung.

That's exactly what I thought ☺

Altough I wouldn't buy it I am curious to read about the performance and the improved touchwiz

The camera samples look promising leta hope they are good in real life too

Hopefully Samsung has done some proper testing regarding screen resolution, Exynos chip 14 nm and the battery. If it powers the phone through a day of medium to heavy usage then it is good enough for me. The lack of scdard will according to Samsung make the phone faster and cause less lagging. I have always been a fan of sd-card support but it is no dealbreaker as long as it supports usb-on-the-go.

I really like the designs of the S6 and S6 Edge. OIS, f1,9, wireless charging, better finger scanner, lighter TW, better loudspeaker, 3 G ram, yes please 😊

Posted by aussieland1
HTC one m8 had sd card and it is considered one of the smoothest android phone so I don't buy their excuse . I don't dispute that it won't be a big deal for many people - it certainly is for me though and I am hoping note series won't follow the same path (I prefer a slightly thicker phone with sd card )

I agree that the phone is impressive other than that.

My only other criticism is the similarity with iphone 6 (the bottom bit for example). Kinda wish Samsung designed the speaker grill different or made the bottom a bit more distinctive . Still I am sure plenty of people will accuse it if being a copycat

Word has it that my local Samsung Mobile rep has said that the S6 will only come with a 12 month manufacturers warranty the same as Apple. I'm not sure how other regions work but here in the UK all mobile phones except iphones come with a 24 month manufacturers warranty. Not great news if true if you planned on getting it on a contract plan.

Oh wow, S6 sucks terribly. Small battery (2550 mAh), unnecessary large screen resolution (QHD, with this small battery it will be a disaster ) No waterproofing, no microSD, no radio. Is this 2015 or 2013? I'm confused. I'm glad I got my Z3, looks like smartphone market is going backwards, sad sight.

You know what is hilarious ... and astute at the same time? Over from Macrumors.com (obviously an apple fan site) ... bare with me on this ...

Samsung Pay
3 colors, gold, silver, black
Non removable battery
No micro SD slot
Similar hardware design
Similar storage options

Welcome to the Samsung iPhone S6.
Manufactured in Korea, designed by Apple in California.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! They didn't even TRY to come up with something unique!!

Samsung is truly gunning for Apple's sales vs their lack of sales for 3 quarters now ... their going not for MarketShare but purely MINDSHARE!

Walk up to vendor pay terminal or checkout ...

Do you have Apple Pay ...
Do you have Samsung Pay ....

See what's happening here? Their selling and now you're buying the BRAND exclusively.

That said the Galaxy 6 does look VERY beautiful. HTC had a chance to do something great with the M9 and dropped it worse than Apple ever has. Pathetic really ... like Blackberry is now doing (FINALLY) is what HTC should ... consider outsourcing EVERYTHING they do to other platforms ... and drop the hardware!

Beautiful implementation on the front Glass for privacy it looks like.

Honestly ... consider the following:
Lower battery size ... lowest lithography of a mobile CPU and how powerful and power efficent it is ...
64bit and 14NM ... 14 Nanometers!!! the nearest is 21!

Internal storage up to 128GB like the iPhone 6/6Plus ... enough (along with Box/DropBox/OneDrive) you'll be just fine with all those HDR Full Hi Def 4K videos!

Internal storage is always faster than external, and it's DDR4! You'll have to try it first hand!

Don't worry about their OS overlay .... looks like a LOT of that Samsung S-This and S-That and S-Who and S-When and S-WTF crap is GONE!! PERMANENTLY! Thank goodness!

I think with using it ... along with the cases ... you may opt for this or the Edge with 128GB storage.

Dust/Water proofing ... unless you take LOTS of pictures and video underwater (holding your breath for a 20% of them) I'm sure you'll not think of this after a months.

Posted by aussieland1
I also think the CPU being 14nm will compensate for the smaller battery . That being said the screen being qhd might drain the battery much more than a fhs would (not sure of the advantage of a qhd over fhd on such a small screen ? )

Posted by difenbaker
question now is... if one owns an S5, is it worth it to upgrade to an S6?

cheers!

So you didn't notice the more efficient 14nm cpu consuming less power, or the DDR4 RAM/Storage ... or that its using a quad mobile GPU? huh, thought you guys where specs guys? Oh way ... wireless payments and charging irregardless of standard?

Personally I'll hold this crap Z30 until it dies out (didn't cost me a cent ) until the iPhone 6 128GB drops in price or the newer model really does something great.

All I know is there is going to be a HUGE market for insuring cellphones coming this summer .... HUGE!

Posted by aussieland1
The more efficient 14nm cpu in this case is being coupled with a smaller battery resulting in the same battery life with Note 4 or even less . The wireless payments will only help when and if Samsung pay ever takes off

This only leaves the faster ram (dd4) which is good to have no doubt and faster internal memory which again is accompanied by no microsd meaning that you might have to pay premium price if you want 128 gb (when a 128 gb card costs something like 60£ online)

IMO S6 is a good upgrade coming from s5 or older devices but not note 4

Posted by Tsepz_GP
We will see just how much more efficient the CPU is once you get Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Google Chrome going, the Note series phones with their huge batteries seem to handle such heavy apps with greater efficiency than the following S Model e.g. Note 2 gave better battery than the S4, Note 3 better than the S5 and I can bet the Note 4 will give better than the S6.

Told you guys internal memory is ALWAYS faster - especially with DDR4 than external/MicroSD cards.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Nobody argued with you on that though. Samsung could have put the fast memory and still put a memory card slot for those who want it.

I've known Internal Memory is faster since I had a SE W900i, I have always preferred to store Movies, Video Recordings and Apps internally, while keeping back ups, Documents and Music external.

True nobody argued I know ... we're not here for that at any rate right?

Regarding external memory for media ... most documents are sourced outside of the phone (for me anyway), while media (pictures, movies, video recordings, and apps) are sourced by the phone.

However:
Apps are from store catalog (Android/iOS - began this way so you'll not loose anything: Android does have a device:app comparity issue though; arrgh!)
Music - normally for youth is streamed (they don't get the concept of fully owning the content/us old guys quite the opposite perception, lol). I'm guessing the music you owned is sourced and still present in it's entirety on the PC.

So the only backups you require are pictures/video taken by the phone ... everything else - including wallpapers are easily grabbed. If not then backup to iCloud, One Drive, Evernote, OneNote, Dropbox, Box.net ... etc etc.

All taken care of plus is readily accessible while completely mobile over WiFi or carrier network. If the phone is LOST, Stolen or completely crushed or dropped down some building vent through the crates .. no MicroSD card is going to help you anyway

Posted by aussieland1
The problem is the cost of the 128 gb internal memory - a 128 gb card is now around £60 online. So of the difference in price between the 32 gb and 128 gb is this then it is OK. If it a lot more than of course people won't be happy. And for people that upgrade often (like me ) you but the 128 gb once and then use it in your new phone as well - with samsung new approach you have to pay extra for 128 gb memory everyone you upgrade ?

Posted by badassmam
I see that the S6 has gone down the iPhone route in terms of no expandable storage and the truth is that you can complain as much as you like but iPhone sales only get stronger despite Apple never implementing expandable storage. If that's the case then why should Samsung bother with a card slot? They've actually made the phone look high end and it has much better materials. Power users probably feel hard done by but the average user will like this, the reality is that very few people would even carry extra memory cards and actually do the swap. Benchmark tests are good so I can imagine that this will be the top choice Android flagship.

Posted by aussieland1
I have no doubt that many people (majority ) don't care about the memory card - I do though and given the choice I would choose one with memory card

Thanks...
Exactly what I thought... I think there's little, if any, advantage to it for now. I believe there's not that many 64-bit apps out there at the moment.

I can probably accept the lack of a card, and the non-removable battery, been using an iPhone 6 for the last couple of months now, so Im used to that. But I cant somehow get around the idea that it isn't waterproof. My s5 had gone swimming in the pool a couple of times already, sometimes with me and sometimes without me ...and throughout those times, it remained unharmed. I grew to depend on its waterproofing... but now with the s6, I dont know.

If I switch to an S6 now, I'd have 2 non-waterproof phones.... or alternatively, maybe I could wait for the iphone 7 (which is rumored to be waterproof) then thats the time I'd get the s6?

cheers!

I could live without a Micro SD slot.Would just get the 128GB variant.
Non Removable battery,not so much.
Installing custom ROMs,modding etc sometimes requires you to pull the battery when things go South. Not having that option is a scary thought.

Posted by aussieland1
Still though with fixed memory it feels like you have to buy a new 128 gb memory card everyone you buy a new phone ..... and plus from 32 gb internal memory plus microsd to just 127 gb it feels like a downgrade .

Hopefully Sony/LG /HTC will keep using memory card

In terms of resetting the phone isn't just holding the power button doing the trick (in the absence of removable battery )
