Just a smidge of confirmation from Nokia this is actually true would keep me happy. But at the minute, I don't like listening to rumours.

That mock up with the white rear is nice although looks a bit too chunky.

I love Nokia!!!!! They will make it!! Am unsure but Nokia is testing 2 different versions of this possible handset. One is Quad Core the other dual core. But if it's quad core then that cannot be until Microsoft pull their finger out and release their next OS update to be able to support quad core and 1080p screens. Not that we need 1080p screens but I think the current Windows phone software limits image quality so I read. The next Nokia Amber update on WP is going to provide higher image quality with new software algorithims.

Posted by etaab
If that's all we're waiting for - for Microsoft to pull their finger out then they're wasting valuable sales. They could put the camera tech into a 920 and release it. Then later down the line upgrade the rest of the specs.

Im sure the camera alone would be a brilliant USP to use against Android phones and iOS.

Posted by cu015170
^ yes.

I said this months ago.. the Phase 1 system is a sophisticated combination of hardware optimization and software, it will NOT be easy to port it over to any other OS, since it was designed with an Real-Time OS (Symbian) in mind. It was only a speculation, but as time goes by, its becoming clear that they can't do it.. at least not in an economical kind of way.

In fact, they had a better chance of porting this faster to Windows CE (WP7) than Windows NT (WP8).

I am really happy that they managed to get the xenon to work on NT (928) .. at least that is a step in the right direction.

From here, its all about Microsoft.. they need to provide the platform for the Phase 1 system to work properly. At this point the whole strategy switch is not making any sense.. they are in the same boat they were before the switch: not being able to use top spec hardware, which is what sells phones these days.

At least with their own platforms, they had full control, and we got unique phones like the Nokia N9, and the 808.. which is proving to be a pretty amazing device overall.

So.. best case scenario will be end of 2013 for a true 808 replacement, at least in terms of camera tech.

That's what someone else said on the web that should be by end of 2013. It's a shame we have to wait on MS but they have said the next update will be in the summer months fingers crossed. It's a shame Nokia is kinda restricted by MS. Nokia is actually adding it's own features on Windows phone all the time to improve experience and like in the next Nokia Amber update will improve image quality in all Lumia devices with better software. It will also bring the Smart Camera app to all Lumia's too. To me it's like Nokia owns Windows phone like Samsung owns Android. It's also a shame that these days most manufacturers are now using an OS which is not their own so they have not much control. Does anyone think this Pureview tech would have been easier on Android or NOT?? Just a query as i have no idea

I have no idea, I cant imagine it being all that hard to implement in WP. People talk about its limitations, but im sure a clever company like Nokia could find a work around.

I just hope whatever they do announce regarding this EOS if it exists at all, its camera is better than the 808. I would be pretty annoyed if they released another cameraphone like the 920 which has a Pureview labelled camera, but not actually a proper Pureview camera module like the 808.

I suppose its a bit like when Aston Martin released their best car, then a year or two later a car which was cheaper than the one that had been out so long with less power. If you've got some great high tech stuff up your sleeves at least stick it in the best product you can manage at the time. The 808 was probably the best Symbian phone ever made so rightfully got their best camera.

The latest rumor is that the phone is 41Mpix, no info on oversampling..

A major US carrier has picked up the phone.

Nokia will show the phone at Microsoft's build conference in San Francisco.

Wow this sounds like exciting news indeed, I'm looking forward to this one.

How can a major US carrier pick up the EOS when it's not even announced yet??

Everything happens way in advance.. the US carriers tend to test each device for their network before they announce.

Oh yeah I know that but my info was that this will not be out till autumn or maybe even early next year. maybe my info is wrong but I do know Nokia is working on it yes. I just hope Nokia doesn't make similar mistake as with the 808 not selling it on the high street.

Eh ? the carriers are the first to find out usually and they keep it very secret. Which is why companies like Samsung are able to announce their phones in such elaborate style and then tell the media the phone will be available in which countries and on which carriers. Its all planned in advance.

Posted by cu015170
Nov-Oct release ... which means that we might indeed see an announcement later in the summer, possibly the MS build conference.

In the newest rumor, claim that the device will not have OIS!

And this is happening because SONY (manufacturer of image sensor 920, 925 and 928) failed to integrate the optical image stabilizer to the sensor 41 MP, so it is almost certain that it has the same sensor of 41 MP 808 (manufactured by TOSHIBA), now Windows Phone!

Posted by cu015170
http://www.wpcentral.com/noki[....]-pureview-wp8-early-trials-att

HES9 Sensor
AT&T exclusive
Comes in yellow

Hopefully the same amazing optics from the 808.

The camera controls, oversampling, and zooming are the remaining questions.

Also, size and weight.

Posted by emerson_shei
Regrettable !

It would be interesting image sensor giant, high pixel count, oversampling, xenon flash and OIS !

Maybe in 2014 ?

Posted by etaab
Well, im off on my holiday tomorrow so wont be around for a week and every time I go on any trip, I always wish I had an 808 with me.

But, i'll be taking my N8 and hope this will be the last time I go away without a new 41mp cameraphone. Come on Nokia pull your finger out !!

Posted by alenn
Nokia must hurry because the competition is not far behind.
The HTC One has a great new technology implemented in it's camera.
And what about the N-series and CZ lens branding?
I would like to see a Nokia N10

Posted by Bonovox
Hmmm,HTC One camera is not a patch on the 808

Posted by alenn
It's not about the sensor size here.
And it's nothing special but HTC's newest technology is improving and will be soon better than the rest.
Except for PureView of course

Posted by Bonovox
No they won't

Posted by Vit
I would love to see that 41Mp sensor with OIS.

Anyway, I think Nokia should decrease the number of pixels and increase the pixel size, while keeping the sensor size on the big side. Picture quality might be increased at higher sensitivities by doing that. Perhaps 20Mp with the same sensor size would still allow for oversampling.

If Sony would take the beautiful RX-100 sensor onto the rumored Honami, than it would absolutely smash the 808 in terms of quality. The RX-100 can take some gorgeous shots even at ISO-3200.

That would be an absolute dream.

Posted by emerson_shei
There is not the slightest possibility of Sony to develop something better than the 808, maybe better!

Nokia has unique features that make their devices, the best in picture and sound!

Among them are:

Pureview Pro Imaging (pixel oversampling)!

Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar that in the mobile world, Nokia devices are unique in!

Microphones High Amplitude Audio Capture (HAAC), a microphone que has two different sensitivity levels - two paths or channels for recording. The dual channel audio recording is then combined to give you a tremendously broad dynamic range. In other words, it is sensitive enough to pick up the quietest sounds, but still sounds great even During the really loud bits.

A rock concert can easily reach 120 decibels, Which poses in trouble at all for Nokia HAAC's microphone. It can record up to 140 decibels with no audible distortion. By contrast, most other mobile phone microphones struggle to handle anything above 110 decibels.!

So the most we can expect from Sony, Samsung or HTC is something like the Nokia N8!

Nokia EOS Pureview ?

Looks very slim

Posted by alenn
Hmm..No bezel.
Looks great and the lens is quite big.!

Posted by cu015170
Well, most people here in the US have no idea that a 41Mpix sensor even exist for mobile phones, so this is going to be a major marketing boost for Microsoft and Nokia. We all know that its not about the number of mpix with the 808 and more about on how they are used, but it wouldn't matter.. the public will still read that 41Mpix label and go .

"omg, this must be amazing"

Nokia really never properly played that card with the 808.. let's hope they do with the new one.

Still not as flexible as the HES9 in terms of zooming, oversampling, and of course performance vs. size is in favor of the 808 .. considering that its paired with that beautiful Carl Zeiss lens.

The sensor in the Honami will be slightly bigger than the one on the N8, paired with more modern jpeg algorithm and sensor tech in general, it should get close enough to the 808 in certain condition.

I thought Nokia would wait for the next GD2/GD3 updates from Microsoft which will make things even better. But Nokia is also doing their own improvements later this summer to all Lumia's with the Amber update which will bring better imaging!!

It will still be bigger than the 808 overall. The 920 is already bigger.. so adding the HES9 sensor to it won't help. It will also be heavier than the 808 for sure.

The 920 clocks at 99 cc volume
The 808 is at 95.5 cc volume

What that means is.. the 920 takes more room in your hand and in your pocket when compared to the 808.

I don't see how the EOS will be any smaller than the 920.

Official reveal at Microsoft Build in San Francisco later this month. Launch.. probably 2-3 months after that, and its very likely that this particular model will be AT&T exclusive for a while.

Posted by Bonovox
I surely hope not cos Nokia is gonna shoot itself in the foot again limiting their market with exclusives

Posted by cu015170
^ it will be.

Why does the hump have to be a different kind of plastic ? On the 808 and the N8 they are metal, and needed to be because they act as the FM transmitter antenna...

But.. in this case.. I don't see a point. It will blend in much better if it was unibody.

Posted by cu015170
its real.

Q4 release

Posted by Del
Well that's just pants if it's going to be an at&t exclusive for a while

Posted by Bonovox
But is that At&T exclusive just in America?? Will there be exclusives in Europe?? Surely this would be silly on Nokia's part as Windows phone is bigger in Europe than America

Posted by cu015170
I am sure that there will be an international version.. 100% .. its a matter of time.

Its important to note that the loud speaker is no longer inside the hump, like on the 808.. so that would save some room. Also, the capacitors for the xenon and the actual xenon are probably smaller..

I think those are the two main areas from which they shaved off couple of mm .. the module itself is probably identical, which is great. No matter how shitty the jpeg processing is, the module will still produce decent jpegs

Well,as it is similar design to 920, the 920 has speakers on the bottom. Wonder what the Xenon range will be?? It looks slimmer than the 808 Xenon
