Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is announced

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 – a smartphone that just got announced officially after weeks of speculations, truly deserves its name for its among the largest handsets to ever see the light of day. With its 6.3-inch display panel, it overshadows even behemoths like the Samsung Galaxy Note II, LG Optimus G Pro, and the likes. Yet under its hood beats the heart of a mid-range device.

Its screen, despite its massive proportions, has an okay resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels. And no, it isn't of the AMOLED kind – we're dealing with an LCD panel here. Providing processing power is a dual-core 1.7GHz processor of make and model that are yet to be announced. The chip is paired with not one, not two, not three, but... 1.5GB of RAM for smooth multitasking performance.

With an 8-megapixel camera on its back, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 should be a decent snapper given the right circumstances, while that 1.9MP front-facing cam will come in handy when you're in the mood for a video chat. There's also 8 or 16 gigs of on-board storage, which can be expanded with the use of a microSD card. A cool perk that you won't see on many smartphones is the IR blaster, which allows one to control TVs and other electronics straight from their Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. There's also support for LTE network connectivity at up to 100Mbps on the downlink.

All of that, including the phone's massive 3,200mAh battery, is enclosed in a body that's only 8 millimeters thick. The device, however, is quite heavy tipping the scales at 199 grams. Andorid 4.2 Jelly Bean - the most recent version of the platform, will come loaded on the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 out of the box.

The exact pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 has not been announced yet, but we'll have more information on the matter by next month. The smartphone is expected to launch in May across Europe and in other markets soon after.

Same design again

It must be an easy job for Samsung designers.......... oh wait!! Samsung has no designers

Just copy paste GS3, make it bigger or smaller and VOILA!!!! New phone

Posted by jcwhite_uk
I don't think i would want to be seen talking on that thing as it would silly. Also gonna be too big to easily put in your pocket.

I'm waiting to see the official pricing before I make any judgements, but I can already see this being a great seller if priced correctly, according to this study: http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]es-across-the-world_id41761#6- the Samsung Galaxy Note range hits the top 10 most used Android devices in many key markets, out doing most other OEM's high end and mid end efforts, so it seems pocketability isn't a big deal to many Android users.

If priced right this could hurt the rest of the "also rans" from the Htc One, Xperia Z to their mid range counterparts, as users will be getting a bigger display, better update support, better multitasking and content amongst many other things at much cheaper prices, things just got even more interesting with the arrival of these two.

Can I ask why do you bother to post in the Samsung threads when you clearly have no interest in buying any Samsung products?

That is a good question aussieland1 and I am sure the sonytroll has no good answer

The Mega 6.3 looks great and I would love to have one. Battrytime, camera and the screen will be great on this one and there is a market for these phones they only have to get the price right

Cheers.. i like it too but then i am a Note 2 owner (i am a sucker for large screens). I agree about the price hopefully it is not going to be more than 450-500 EUR. Gsmarena is claiming that Mega 6.3 will have Exynos 5250 and T604 which is on Nexus 10- that would be great if this is indeed true

already a hands on:

I'll stop bothering when Samsung fanboys stop posting in Sony threads. Got it now?

you mean that you are extremely childish? Yes i do. So basically because one or 2 people are trolling the Sony threads you feel that it is ok to do the same with samsung threads? How about the rest of the users that don't post anything in the sony threads why do you think it is ok to punish them as well?

^

Same applies to Sony readers as well. SO think of them too Why did your fellow Samsung patrons torture them with BS ?
I never bothered with Samsung threads until certain Samsung fanboys decided they have to ruin Sony threads and make fun of Sony and Sony fans. They started it, so I don't think you should be blaming me alone. The people who are supporting your post are much more to blame than me.

@aussieland1

ok as much as I hate to derail the thread further, since you're new here, look, ever since the Sony Z thread started here in the forums, at first everything was ok, then suddenly these samsung users that randomuser is referring to began posting at the Z thread, they post negative things about the Z in an exaggerated way, combined with mocking and annoying Z users, so yeah they don't just troll, but they disrespect Z users as well, and because of that the Z thread got ruined, and not only that, the xperia rumors thread also got ruined in quite a similar way.

True that you find randomuser annoying in this thread, but the thing is he also contributed alot in the Sony xperia rumors thread, which is one of the most visited and active threads here on esato, so imo he deserves at least respect unlike those samsung users that ruined the Z thread just because they kind of have a grudge on sony products

and welcome to esato, I suggest you just ignore those posts and just reply to the topic of the thread

Will they be costlier than GRAND?If yes isnt it better to get the S3's since there will be a price cut due to S4?

Very childish indeed, wouldn't bother with him, he's like some of the users at M-R, hates facts and can't handle the truth very well if it all goes against what he wants to believe, so you're wasting your time trying to reason with him.

Welcome by the way, it's polo_011 from M-R

Calm down, it's a pre-order price. - You see what we have to deal with here Aussie.

699 Euros is a bit too high for a poor man's Note, even if it's a pre-order price.

Posted by skblakee
I am a huge Samsung fan having come from the Omnia HD to the Galaxy S2 then now the Note II. This trend by Samsung of naming each and every new product Galaxy this or that and keeping the same design for all of their phones if cheapening the brand IHMO. I mean they are all the same just bigger or smaller therefore there is no uniqueness about the smartphone from Samsung that one owns. There is no "oh wow nice phone, what brand is it?" Now it is "what Samsung is that you are using."

These latest phones might have great features but they are boring, monotonous and cheapening the galaxy line up. Get some new designs Samsung.

Posted by Supa_Fly
"get your copiers started!"

Sorry but a larger screen SGS II/III with less features ... WHY?!

WHY produce this?
- may take sales away from the Note 2 or even Note 1 (to empty entire stock),
- More to pruduction costs and marketing costs (already started)
- Lessens brand and product mix value to not-in-the-know users; effectively ending their joy experience choosing this over Note/Note II or SGS III or SGS IV.

Hardened, yes. The diminishes the value of the note series which have been a huge success. This is silly

Agreed with this and your previous post. However if the price is right i am very tempted. I expect though the the market for this type of phone will be limited

Tsepz_GP

hey, good to see you here. MR is getting very lonely these days

Ranjith

unless you are desperate for a gigantic screen i would say S3 is the better choice out of these 2. Although Mega 6.3 has a very potent cpu/gpu (if GSMArena is correct) S3 will be better supported by developpers due to its popularity

Thank you

The screen size is so huge.. Can’t fit in our pocket easily...and the resolution is too low..

Another Samsung, another excellent battery test score:

Battery tests for the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 are done,
results inside

Somehow all the Samsung’s have similar design and look though this phone looks good. Let’s see how it goes.
