Samsung starts mass production of 128GB memory and 2GB LPDDR3 mobile RAM
9 hours ago by Vince 50 comments

Samsung announced today that its 128GB eMMC memory chips and 2GB LPDDR3 RAM for mobile devices have entered mass production.

At the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum 2012 in Taiwan today, Sammy spilled some interesting details about its upcoming memory chips.

The new DRAM is built using the 30nm manufacturing process and is the first 2GB low power double-data-rate 3 (LPDDR3) RAM to hit mass production. It can achieve data transfer speeds of up to 200MB/s per pin, making it 50 percent faster than the previous generation LPDDR2 RAM.

The new 128GB eMMC memory chips are quite fast as well with transfer speeds of up to 140MB/s. It’s manufactured on a 20nm process and uses NAND with a toggle DDR2 interface.

Samsung hasn’t given any estimates when we can expect those chips in mobile devices, but having just entered in mass production, I’d say early 2013 is a safe bet.

Does this mean I am likely to have the option of a 128gb memory SGS4 with 2gb of ram come 2013?

Posted by djin
No, but you would for the new ipad . For sgs4 you will probablyy have to wait by end of 2013, or maybe 2014 to see that. I mean sgs3 with 64 gb is coming out some where near the end of 2012!

Well I already have a 64gb micro SD in my galaxy s2 so no big deal for me really but I was just wondering how far along they were. Interesting development though.

I just hope their latest offerings come with greater improvement in software and speed.

Well, the USA version of GS3 has 2 gig ram but is dual core instead. Imagine having 64 gig internal and 128 gig card!!

Its processor now upgraded to quad core and its really good.
