Opera Mini 4.2 has been released, available at www.operamini.com It offers 6 new skins, better support for mobile video and increased speeds for users in North America and Asia Pacific. I’d really recommend you check it out.

Thanks for your effort but almost everyone here already knows that. Here's the current thread that we have here: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=177574

We've been discussing for weeks already and we already found ways on how to access the Internet for free using Opera Mini 4.2 beta.

Have a nice day! :)

Posted by marty mcfly
Yes but it's not in Beta anymore, hence, new thread.

Posted by dennevhyn_31
Really? What is the download link? I will try it. I'm excited. Hehehe! Anyway, even though it is not beta anymore, we can use the previous thread but yah, let's start here again. Hehehe! I think we may need to advise the poster to edit the title because the moderators may lock or close this.

Posted by masseur
firstly, the link is in the opening post
secondly, I already saw the post and moved it here as it was in the wrong forum, and I also linked to it from the beta topic, which I then closed after downloading and confirming it was no longer beta

Posted by dennevhyn_31
Oh ok! So the thread for the Opera Mini 4.2 Beta is locked already. Anyway, let's start again here. I installed the final version already on my phone. It really works great. Downloading, uploading, browsing and streaming are fast. Opera Mini ROCKS! :)

I don't know if I am right, but font rendering in beta was somehow smoother( I use SMALL ) ?

Do you have both versions installed on your phone? Did you compare the speed? On my phone, it connects faster especially when watching videos on YouTube.

Posted by iksplusipsilon
I didn't notice any difference in speed between beat and final ... Maybe I will after a while, beta is still installed - just in case.

For downloading, I prefer mod versions like v2.06 and v3.10.

I'm testing it and it's kept some of the glitchedr it had on previous versions. i keep getting linked to others directions. dont find a lot of difference. maybe a bit fast. haven't tried youtube yet though.

i even reported it to the OM forum but no explanation yet...

Posted by tranced
can anyone confirm this: the "1" key brings up a menu in this version. was this there in the beta?

Posted by masseur
I still have the beta installed as well as the final version and yes, the same menu popups in the beta

Posted by tranced
thanks. i just never realized it was there in the beta version.

can u pan and zoom like on opera 9.5?

Posted by Hobbs
One problem that is solved for me is when I change the font size to anything larger than Medium on the E90 internal screen I dont get text overlapping and webpages looking a right old mess.So Im happy with it.

I'm so so so so happy! I have a prepaid SIM and I don't have any prepaid credits on it but I can still access the Internet for free. Everything like My Friends, RSS Reader, PlayNow, free Internet using the default browser, email access using the default browser of my phone, downloading, any applications that requires Internet access especially Opera Mini (any version, modded or unmodded). I'm hoping guys that you can experience the same thing too.

im using opera mini 4.2(but still beta) but everything works fine
free browsing, downloading and watching videos.. amazing!!!

Posted by dennevhyn_31
Hehehe, why are you still using the beta version? Install the final version, it's faster.

Posted by Fanofmodi
Hi guys, i wud like to share my experience. I hav both beta and final v installed. I had used beta for 1week and it was very fast in processing and loading pages. Just yesterday i tried the final v and i am going back to beta v. From what ive tested, the final v takes much more time for processing but same time for loading pages. I hav tried more than 10 diff pages and i found the beta to be 25% faster than the final v. In some cases it was 50% faster. Can someone confirm my test and check which one is faster?

how do you get free interent? this isn't a opera mini feature - java can't give you free internet.

An internet profile setting. We used to be able to do this here in NZ but vodafone "optimised" their mobile internet (basically that means they tried to cover up the fact that they were stopping the use of free internet)

that's my point, it's not a "feature" of opera mini, it's a hole in the operators network that allows use of a proxy via the phone's generic internet profile. Some countries still have these hole's but most don't.

Hi all,

I cant see the option "View Full Site" in the web pages.

Ex: when i open orkut.com, i can only see the mobile version and cant open the full site.

i can open the full site in the default explorer of my k800i !

what might be wrong ?

youtube works for me fine with a W890, even with UMTS/HSDPA disabled.

Posted by tranced
in the press release of the beta version, they say that youtube will be working on recent models. they never specified models.

@max_wedge: for opera mini 4.2, we use socket protocol to access the internet for free. We are also using proxies to download for free. We usually use proxies at port 3128. For mod versions of opera mini like v2.06, we configure the operamini server manually.

On my phone, the final version is faster but not that much compared to the beta version.

@max_wedge: why are you making arguements on my post? Did i say that it's a feature of opera mini 4.2? I'm just saying that we can access the internet for free on opera mini 4.2 because we are using proxies.

I'm not meaning to argument your post, I'm just trying to clarify that free proxies, only work in some countries, and that configuring opera mini to get free internet will not give you free internet for the default browser (for that you will need to configure a phone data account with the free proxy and only in those countries were you can still use free proxies). (I admit when I look back no you didn't say opera mini can give free access for the default browser - sorry I misunderstood you)

Sorry buddy I didn't mean to offend, I'm only trying to clarify the situation.

besides I asked you how you do this and you tell me the theory, which i already fully understand (the concept of proxies is network 101 - I'm a network engineer btw) but you still didn't tell any actual proxy server addresses I can use to try this myself.

Always in the past when the free internet thing crops up and I've tried it on my phones (in Australia ) it never works. Usually people from other countries such as Europe, US etc also can't get it to work.

So I think only a few countries networks will actually allow free proxies.

Umm...
When I open YouTube, my phone says 'connected to media server' but then there's just a black screen which has the time of the video and the forward/rewind buttons and no buffering or anything else. Can someone help me?

Posted by dennevhyn_31
@max_wedge: oh ok. Because my point is you could have read my post first before you made comments. I'm just sharing my experience on my phone. Anyway, that's fine. Let's forget about it. Going back, we can access the internet for free in opera mini if we are going to use any proxy at any port like 80 and 3128. For browsing on the default browser, we should use a proxy at port 8082 to browse for free. It also allows us to download for free on both opera mini and the default browser.

The best thing about using a proxy at port 8082 is that it allows us to use any app that requires internet access for free.

Posted by dennevhyn_31
@max_wedge: yah, not all network providers allow proxies. You know we have one network here in the philippines that allows free internet access without tweaking any settings. I don't know if that network provider is aware of that.

Posted by dennevhyn_31
@max_wedge: here's the proxy that i'm currently using, 212.93.193.83:8082. It's based in saudi arabia. It allows us free internet access to everything.

I really like Opera mini and I use Opera 9.62 on my laptop, but Opera still doesn't seem to have caught up with 's latest range of phones. Looking here, I cannot see any C-series, G-series, the latest such as W980, W902 and W595, the Z770/Z780 twins or even K660, K630 and V640i.

I use the W910i version for my V640i despite the 2.4" 320 x 240 resolution not matching my 1.9" 220 x 176 screen it works fine without any glitches. I intend getting a G705 or W705 soon and will probably continue using the W910i version of Opera Mini. What do you guys use for your A200 phones? And does Opera Mini auto-rotate like the useless Safari browser on my iPhone?

we can, just when it's in normal view.

Posted by dennevhyn_31
@max_wedge: No problem. Anyway, haven't you experienced getting free internet on your phone? Have you tried it before like configuring the network or internet settings of your phone?
